Encouragement for new posters (1 Viewer)

I frequently visit this site to find information related to the NFL, both team related as well as specific players. There are multiple posters and also staff members who have sources and access to the teams and players that share that knowledge here. It is not always perfect as the NFL remains competitive and the teams hold information secure. I appreciate their efforts to inform the group.

There are a lot of threads that folks can share opionions on as well and lots of times these opinions force everyone to consider different perspectives. That too is good to stimulate thought and comparisons.

However, there is entirely too much focus on me lately. Before posting, consider the purpose of your thread or response. Are you writing to inform or invoke thought? If so, proceed. If not, reconsider.

Nobody really cares about the impact on your fantasy team or player. Please refrain from those comments. The Assistant Coach Forum has recently had a lot more give and take and starting or sitting questions and/or trading questions will be responded to there.

If you have a disagreement with a previous poster, state your position and use stats and logic. If you find yourself repeatedly jawing with one or more posters on an idea, agree to disagree and move on.

Unless we all work together, the purpose of knowlege exchange gets lost in the space and the threads lose usefulness. I appreciate the useful information here so let's see if we can work to that goal.

Just like Forrest Gump, that is all I have to say about that.

Great idea,

And I think this thread has merit not only for new posters, but for everyone. At this time of year, it's only natural that our attentions would transition from the conceptual -- i.e., before we had rosters -- to the actual, because we're burdened with the players we drafted. That said, this also happens to be the busiest time of the year in the forums and threads cluttered with personal lamentations about lineup decisions and/or boom/bust performances make it hard to maintain the cohesion of a lot of topical discussions.

Certainly IN THE CONTEXT of the discussion, mentioning your team's issues is OK, but not as THE main impetus for posting in a thread, it's best left unposted. We have threads each week in the Shark Pool for bragging and venting, so if you really need to clear your chest there are avenues to do just that. And as rzrback77 said, the Assistant Coach's Forum is specifically designed for discussions of personal team issues and questions.

Good luck this season!

Regarding the byline of your topic, I think Fantasy Football information is the key. Yes, it's annoying when people are just posting useless information about their fantasy team, but sometimes it's useful to see how some news affected someone's actual fantasy football decision making.

I think it's equally annoying to read a whole thread about a key defensive player being injured for the season, and not have anyone actually try to estimate how this affects the fantasy performance of their opponents or the D/ST, for example. As much as I don't care about someone's fantasy team record, I'm also not coming to this board to hear about someone's prediction of a team's real life record. Chances are I've heard the talking heads say the same thing 100 times by now. It's not totally useless, but sometimes the signal to noise ratio gets really low. At the very least, someone posting saying why this is leading them to make an actual fantasy football decision helps frame the topic in fantasy football terms.

It's more concrete when someone says "This news caused me to start so and so now over so and so, where I wasn't before", rather than "This news means that this team is going to be in trouble on monday and lose the division probably! worst division ever!"

Yes, but this board has always been a haven for real life NFL discussion, as well. That's staying true to its roots. We've, for a long time, been the largest NFL related message forum in the world, fantasy or otherwise.

Totally understood, and appreciated even. I just appreciate a balance, is all. I guess all I'm saying is that in a thread where there's a ton of abstract fantasy related analysis, then a poster talking about how this topic affects their team decisions may add noise to the discussion, sure. But in a topic where no one has mentioned anything in fantasy related terms, then a poster mentioning how it affects their fantasy team can actually be useful because it's better than nothing. Maybe it gets the ball rolling or whatever. When news comes out or a game has really unexpected results or whatever, I just want to be able to find some fantasy repercussions here first and not have to keep looking.

Alright, alright, I'm sorry... I'll stop fixating on you. I thought that restraining order was just your way of playing hard to get. :nerd:
Good one, I think that it has been long enough that I can drop the restraining order. The "me" I was referring to was the poster being interested in their own fantasy players and their fantasy team, and how they were affected, rather than the discussion itself.

I think what's mostly being talked about here are the posts in game/injury/player threads when something happens and a half dozen people post something that provides no more info than "Good think I have X's backup" or "X being hurt kills my season." If we could just get rid of that huge amount of unnecessary clutter, we'd have a much better Shark Pool.
