The Niner's defense looks like they're on a mission. Part of the problem with the Niner's defense the past few seasons is that they stayed on the field too much. The Bronco's defense look good as well. Mike Nolan is a good defensive coordinator but a terrible head coach. The biggest sleeper on that list would be the Bengals. I don't know what they're doing but they're racking up a ton of sacks.

I'm picking up either Denver, SF, or New Orleans this week- I can't decide. I'm leaning toward Denver based on INT potential vs the Raiders.

My order

Jets - if available, they were in two of my four leagues, probably for the same reason I didn't have them last week, they were playing the Pats. My claims are in but I'm not optimistic.

Bengals - they look legit and get a Pittsburgh team that should yield plenty of sacks and big play opportunities

Broncos - starting any D vs. JaMarcus is a good bet imho, the Broncos have looked good against one bad offense and one that was still in preseason mode

Raiders - have them lower than the Broncos because while both teams have problems on offense I think Oakland's are worse and they're on the road, I see a Denver win

Skins - I feel uneasy about this, actually I think this is the week Detroit breaks the streak, still can't bet against the Lions until they prove otherwise

49ers - yes, Minnesota turns the ball over, they also have a very potent offense. I like what they're doing to that defense but I think there are better bets this week.

I'm dumping Dallas and looking to pickup in the second round of waivers either Chicago, Denver, or Bengals. Yes, Bengals! There's usually plenty of turnovers one way or another in Bengals vs Steelers games.

In my league I've only got the Broncos, Saints, Bengals, Rams, Chiefs, Browns, Bucs & Lions available.

I need a defense bad but after Oakland the Broncos face Dallas, NE, SD, Balt, Pitt, Wash, SD, NYG, KC, Indy, Oak & Philly. That looks like a pretty rough stretch for a team whose offense will not be able to stay on the field!

The Saints are interesting with a schedule of BUF, NYJ, NYG, MIA, ATL, CAR, STL, TB, NE, WAS, ATL, DAL & TB. They could generate big leads quick and force many of these team to become one dimensional! The biggest risk is that by becoming one dimensional they allow the other team to rack up garbage points.

I am not quite sure what to make of the Bengals yet with a schedule of PIT, CLE, BAL, HOU, CHI, BAL, PIT, OAK, CLE, DET, MIN, SD & KC.

I've settled on picking up the 49ers. They don't have the best matchup this week, but they are a very very good NFL defense & the turnovers/TDs will come. If I don't get them now, somebody else will swipe them. They could be the WW Defense steal of the year. I also think Favre throws 1-2 INTs this week against them.

The game is in Oakland.
Ooooops, I'd call it a toss up then. Both passing offenses are a trainwreck, but I believe in Denver's slightly more than Oakland's. The flip side to that is I believe in Oakland's defense quite a bit more than Denver's. I think this game may be decided by JaMarcus. If he plays as badly as he did last week Denver should have the lead, which will allow them to make more plays defensively and more importantly not allow the Raiders D to make plays themselves.

Funny how much changes in a month. A month ago all of the so called experts on these boards were saying that Denver wouldn't be able to beat a powder puff high school girls team. Now all of a sudden they are a startable fantasy defense? Look, they are my favorite team, and always will be, but I wouldn't touch them in any of my fantasy leagues. I like the improvement, but I've been burned by the homer pick before when they were supposed to have decent defenses. Not happening again.

Dude. Jamarcus Russell. Seriously. Dude.

I think it's primarily because of this week's matchup. Russell is arguably the worst starting QB in the league and the Raiders' offense is dreadful.

Playing with fire with the Denver defense. One of these weeks the Denver offense is going to totally annhialate the Denver defense and a negative fantasy point week will drop.

Raiders dont throw the ball enough for any D to get a lot of sacks or INT's. Russell is so bad I doubt the denver DB's will even catch his off target junk he throws. This game should be close since both team D's have been playin well. Should be low scoring with plenty of running. I'd rather take a chance on the Saints D.

Dude. Week 12 last year.http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/2008112310/2...s@broncos/watch

Seriously. 31 - 10 Dude.

Ya i agree, I like Saints D. Russel doesnt throw alot of picks because his throws are like 50 feet in the air and 20 rows into the seats on the sidelines knocking out children who arent paying attention.

The Bengals have a good matchup with the Steelers if your league doesn't penalize for points allowed. Expect at least three sacks and one or two interceptions, not too bad a floor if you're using a Defense by Committee.

I figure if you're going to try to ride one defense the rest of the year you'd want to pick up the 49'ers. They don't have the best SOS, but they're probably the best defense of the ones you listed.

I'm going to try and play waiver wire match ups week to week in leagues I don't have a top D. The Cardinals and Bengals have a pretty nice SOS so I'm trying to make one of them my base and then fill in around their tough match up weeks.

This week the Broncos have a nice match up. I'm starting them this week (as I did last week) and then cutting them next week.

I have the chargers and am dropping them for either the packers or the redskins. Leaning towards the packers because they play the rams this week anthe lions and browns in a few weeks. But the redskins are tempting also, they play the lions and the bucs the next 2 weeks. :headbang: :pickle:

Seattle plays well at home and they have an easy schedule. My strategy is DBBC with Seattle and San Fran. The only bad matchup for both is week 8. Every other week is a decent matchup for one or the other.

I'm picking up the Cards to cover the Steelers Week 8 bye (ARI @ Home vs CAR )

Their playoff schedule - (weeks 14-16)

@ SF

@ DET

STL @ Home

They are currently ranked #3 in our league .

I was going to let them ride on the waivers for another week since their bye is week 4 but figured someone might snatch them up.

Their schedule matches up wel with PIT's and I may actually play them over PIT if some of those playoff games look ripe!

Got a claim in for them and will know tomorrow if I am good to go.

Just picked up the Bengals DST for the matchup with the Steelers. I see a low scoring game with a fair amount of sacks/turnovers.

Going with SF also this week, looks like a very low scoring game with lots of ball control and time of posession battles. Plus Favre is due for one of his forced INT games and the Niner's D looks very capable of making that happen.

That's an okay argument for Survivior, but you could have a good outing from Was D even if Detroit wins.

I usually try to get defenses that I think will win, if I can. There are less big play opportunities when a team is playing from behind than when they're protecting a lead. If the Skins were more of a play making D it'd be different but they haven't been

That makes sense. I guess it depends on your scoring rules. Even if the Lions win, I'd be surprised if the game was high scoring.

I can't get over how tempting Denver is, and how not sexy Washington is for fantasy purposes. Denver has done surprisingly well, and I can't help but feel that watching Jamarcus Russell pass is like watching a 1 year old step into a busy intersection. But I guess this is the risky pick, since this Denver team is a front-runner for the flukey early season team role.

But, so hard to get excited about Washington's D/ST. They just never seem to put points on the board, I've been through this before. I think they are deceivingly "safe", but their floor is actually lower than it seems because they are always a potential 1 sack no turnover type of DEF on a bad day. Their offense is not ever going to put a strangle hold on a team either, so they don't induce the big risks from opponents.

I guess I will play it safe and grab Washington, just banking on at least a couple turnovers from Det.

Picking up Dallas and Arizona this week. I think this is a nice combo going forward looking at the schedule. (dropping San Diego as well. Too many injuries and Merriman looks slow.)

well I dropped San Diego - killed me the first two weeks - and went with the SF/Denver combo....Cinci is available too...but i'll go with Denver against oak this week and then ride SF from there on out. i'm 2-0 and like my playoff chances...so SF's 15/16 games are choice :)

Same...dropped San Diego this morning and picked up the Bengals/Cardinals DBBC. Starting Bengals this week against that PITT O LINE

In the process of dropping SD for CHI, who someone let go for some reason. Both have a WK 5 bye, but I think CHI has more long term value with their strong secondary, even without Urlacher. If anyone has WAS on their wire, would also be looking to snatch them up.Will be curious to see how up and comers like Denver, Cincy, Arizona and the 49ers do this week, as they are looking consistently strong, and if they continue at this level, could *gasp* potentially crack top 10.

Call me crazy but the raiders have so many defensive weapons that it is hard to pass on that. With players like Namdi Asomugha, Richard Seymour, and Michael Huff as well as so many more this defense has potential to carry their weak offense. Mind you defense oriented teams love to run the ball. Too bad the raiders don't have a bad ### running back or a QB that can run with the ball, right?

How bout KC this week against a Philly team who is missing all of its offensive play makers? Call me crazy, but im not too scared of the Kolb+Celek combo, with hand offs to a rookie RB.

Starting bad defenses against anyone but the December 2008 Cleveland Browns is a bad idea.

In my :lmao: league each owner only gets three (3) free agent moves for the season, so there is none of this "pick up the player/defense de jour" to plug into the lineup each week. I used my 1st on Bell...before he sprained his joint.

I have the Cowboys D and am underwhelmed by their performance so far. Looking to pick up a D to use from here on out with the following available on the WW (in point total order/rank in our league to date):

3-Bills

4-Broncos

5-Cardinals

6-Packers

7-Saints

8-Falcons

Interesting how on the FBG Top 250 NONE of these sniff the top 10 D's except the Pack. They give up yards and points but come up with turnovers and defensive scores. Looking better than the 'Boys to date for sure...

Who's better this week? 1pt/sack 2pts/int fumble recovery 6 pts for def TD 10 pts for shutout 7 pts for 2-10 pts 5 pts for 10-20 pts 3 pts 20-25 pts

NYJ(home) v Tenn

or

Den v Oak(home)
