Game Thread W7 - San Francisco V Houston (1 Viewer)

SF forces a 3 and out on Houston's 1st possession. Houston did not attempt a run play and SF got quite a bit of pressure on all 3 downs.

Mario unblocked on SF's first snap. SACK.

Looked like that was going to be a pass to Crabtree in the flat. Edit: Hard to say for certain, Hill never got it off but was looking that side.

SF getting lots of pressure. Slaton was dropped for a loss because Justin Smith came thru the line unblocked. Schuab had to get rid of the ball on the next 2 downs because of pressure. Texans punt again.

SF 3 & out again. Crabtree has been in so far on all plays, but no targets yet. Defensive game so far.

So much for Slaton not getting goalline or short yardage. Slaton scores on 1st & 2. He's also gotten at least 3 attempts on 2nd & 1 or 3rd & 1. Showed a lot of burst on the 3rd & 9 just before the TD to take a screen in the flat and get tackled at the 2 for a 1st down.

No targets for Andre yet. I think they are sending him deep to draw coverage and then Schuab is throwing the underneath to Owen Daniels due to the pressure. Daniels is 3 for 4 with one drop.

Crabtree with his 1st catch on 3rd down. Nice designed play with a screen in the flat, but Gore blew his blocking assignment.

Jacoby Jones with a 68 yard punt return TD negated by penalty.

Thanks for the update. Stupid gamecenter had the penalties being declined and the TD scored. Need Schaub and Daniels to score not Jones.

Unusual stat line for Slaton so far:6 rushes, -1 yds. total, 1 TD
San Fran is getting all kinds of pressure in the middle abusing the Texans two backup Guards. Chris Brown was just in and dropped for a -1 yard loss. Most of the yards have been on quick pass plays getting rid of the ball.Andre Johnson with a nice 3rd & long catch for a 1st down.

Was going to post about it earlier because Jacoby Jones had problems fielding punts with the sun coming in with the roof open. And just now Arnaz Battle lost a punt in the sun and turns it over on the 10.

The roof being open is wrecking havoc because half the field is in the bright Texas sun and the other half dark.

Slaton lined up in the Slot like a WR on that pass play and takes it to the house 10 yards. Dived into the endzone for the last few yards.

what is Gore doing? I see he has only 2 yards. Is he in? Just nothing going?
SF can't get a drive going. In this last series, he had about 4 yards on a wildcat play. But was also dropped for a loss by Mario Williams. Houston's Defense is smothering them so far and I think they've only got one 1st down so far.

Wonder if the Texans will run more with a 3-TD lead. The way it's been going, that might be the worst thing to do.

Chris Brown in on a 2nd and inches. Converts for 13 yards with a big hole in the middle.

SF bites on a bootleg, Owen Daniels catches deep for a 40 yard TD!

Hill makes a dangerous mistake throwing the ball away as he was going down on 4th down. Cushing would have had a pick 6 on that if he had held on.

Why on earth is Gore not in on 4th & 2?!?!

Slaton with ANOTHER fumble on a play to run the clock out. SF recovers in FG range with 0.01 left on the clock. Booth is reviewing but I don't think they keep it, looked an awful lot like his knees are down before it is stripped.

Edit: Ruled down by contact.

He's had a couple of them overturned this year; the number of times the ball's on the carpet after he carries it is downright ridiculous. It's worse than Tiki in his heyday. Someone has to teach him a new technique.

IIRC Gore wasn't fully healthy and there was a lot of talk Coffee was going to get a decent amount of work in this game.

Is Shaun Hill benched because:

A) he's hurt

B) he's ineffective

C) the 49ers are so far behind

D) some other reason??

I think he wanted to give the team a spark...he is not hurt. just been ineffective. kind of doubt it is permenant unless Smith keeps doing that.
