Game Thread W8 - Denver V Baltimore (1 Viewer)

Good luck today, Broncos fans. It's a little drizzley here in Charm City right now & temps are in the 50s. I've doubted Denver as a paper tiger most of the season, but I've come around & think they're a formidable team. The Ravens have put themselves in a must-win spot. I think they pull out a close one for a change: 20-16.

No prediction but this is as close to a must-win game for the Ravens as can happen in their seventh game. A loss today and I don't know where they're gonna find 7 or 8 more wins and make the playoffs. The improvement by both Denver and Cincy makes their schedule a pretty daunting one.

hey UH...I see the roady is also in the thread, about to throw his :thumbdown:as f'd up as Denver looked in July, they have certainly pulled it together---DC Nolan has this unit stoutthat said, I think we'll pound it alittle more today than we have--we need to get back to owning the line of scrimage, controlling the clock so as not to put the D in the pressure cooker they've been inthe good news is Walker can't get beat like a drum today--he's inactive :bs:Purple in a tough one...23-17

'Sup, rf? I'd like to see an assertive run game too. Gaither's back so maybe that'll help. But I think the D has to establish itself today somehow.

Happy Standard Time Day, rk. I don't know if I see 7 or 8 more wins even if they win today. Maybe actually beating a good team like Denver will change my mind a little.

Bad non-call there - but Mason can't blow up. That stuff happens all the time and sometimes it gets called and sometimes it doesn't.

:lmao: Harbaugh and Cam both got in his face on the sideline for that, too.Big hit by Ed Reed but will the fumble call stand?

That is right on the very edge of a catch vs non catch - so since it was ruled a fumble it most likely stays a fumble.

Very impressed by Denver's defense. They've weathered the hurry-up look the Ravens showed, stuffed the run and stopped the Ratbirds cold after the turnover. This could turn into an old-timey slugfest that we're pretty accustomed to around here.

Broncos need to find a way to flip the field here for now ...they played that entire first quarter with their back against the wall.

What is up with the Ravens having to dance after every routine play?
They always do that. I remember Ray Lewis doing it in a game earlier this season after the RB converted a 3rd and short. He was all happy about his hit, ignoring the fact that they gave up the first down. It's what they do.

Looks like the usual nail-biter for the Ravens. Apologies to Madden, but there's some hittin' going on in this game.

On the plus side: Ravens D has shown up today

On the minus side: Baltimore has had field position most of the half & only has 6 pts

Not bad for the Broncos - facing another team coming off a bye week. It looks like the Ravens have got the D mojo back and are all over the Broncos -but considering that nearly every drive for the Broncos started inside the 20-25 yard line and nearly every Raven possesion started on their 40 a 6-0 deficit is OK in my book. Why gamble on offense in negative territory - all we need is a tipped pass to Brandon Stokely.

Ravens aren't getting much on offense - just some hard fought yards - and the big play was an awesome Clayton catch.

my thoughts so far:

Den O has GOT to open things up and throw more than 10 yards. Ravens have blown up pretty much every screen. Of course, it would certainly help if Orton had a little more time. Ravens DL dominating.

this new punter sucks. Takes way too long to kick the ball 35 yards. Den special teams looking pretty bad overall...

Defensively, Den is looking pretty good...giving up some plays to Heap and Rice in the middle of the field; that is what I expected to happen.

Right now, the difference in this game is the two personal fouls vs Bal, otherwise this would be wide open.

Partly because of their very solid secondary, I'm afraid I have more confidence in the Broncos maintaining this level of defensive play than I do the Ravens. That said, if Flacco gets a little time in the pocket and heats up a little, I also feel that the Ratbirds can improve their offensive showing in the second half.

Oof.

I agree with moleculo. Broncos offense needs to open it up a little bit. This reminds me of the San Diego where they were super-conservative in the first half, but opened it up a little more in the second half and points starting coming. Granted, Baltimore's defense is better than SD's, but you have to give yourself a chance.

The local CBS affiliate decided that they'd rather air SD/Oakland than dream about putting a game up against the Cowboys, so I'm stuck watching gametracker. I appreciate the commentary so far, guys.

Some poorly timed penalties by Elvis Dumervil help give life to the Ravens - and Flacco makes them pay.

Well, they had to lose sometime, right? 6-1 is more than any of us could have dreamed for. I knew this would be a tough game to win against a desperate Ravens team.

I don't know if Orton is good enough to get it done but this is the time in games against quality opponents where the Ratbird defense has started to unravel.

We play the ugliest games against the Ravens - I am not surprised. The positive is that last year we would have quit - the D is still coming.

Time for another punter. Burger's release is going to cost the Broncos some games. His punts are short and returnable.
