Quarterbacks you're targeting for playoffs... (1 Viewer)

If you don't own peyton or brady...anyone have a playoff spot wrapped up and thinking about going after a quarterback with a great playoff schedule?

I currently have Rodgers...but having second thoughts about a cold, windy chicago (week 14) and a tough blitzburgh defense (week 15). Thinking about going after the likes of schaub or warner...

What say ye??

Bill

Ye say you'll be fine with Rodgers. I say dance with the one that brung ya.

Of the two you named, Warner is the much more favorable situation. As a Schaub owner, I'm not yet convinced he doesn't limp across the finish line here without Daniels. I "think" he'll be fine - but I'm not convinced.

If you can make a deal for Warner, why not?

That offense is going to be clicking on all cylinders the next few weeks as they get ready for the NFL playoffs by beating up on terrible defenses. Wells stepping up lately may scare away a few people, but it is even more reason to believe this offense is going to go off the rest of the way. IMO, Warner is going to be ranked ahead of anyone outside the top 3 almost every week from here on out. Who cares if its mostly the matchups? I think he's a perfect target.

Just to play The Devil's Adovcate....

Only thing that worries me about Warner would be this: Say the Cardinals win this week(vs. the Rams a pretty good bet) and pull off beating either the Titans next week or Minnesota in week 13. So now they're 8-4, 3-1 in division. That takes them into the second Niners game and potentially the chance to ice the West in week 14. If they beat S.F. then, Warner may not be seeing all the work come week 15/16(particularly week 16 if the division's decided) vs. the extra tasty part of that schedule.

Conversely, Schaub's team is probably going to be fighting for its shred of a playoff life down to the wire, and some weeks they flat out can't run the ball. The Texans face the Rams and the "all rookie" Dolphins defensive backfield in weeks 15-16, and will almost certainly be in some kind of "must win of we're stewed" kind of a situation. And outside of Indy in two weeks, who the Texans already showed they could pass on, I don't see a particularly tough matchup for Schaub the rest of the way.

I have both Rodgers and Schaub. Traded for Schaub mid-season for the exact same reason, playoff schedule, well that and the fact Rodgers gets sacked 10x a game. I'm having second thoughts about playing Schaub now.

I think it's going to depend on these next few weeks and how the Texans perform w/ the current roster. If they are putting up 28 a game, start Schaub weeks 14 & 15, Rodgers week 16. If they're struggling at all, start Rodgers all 3 weeks, and don't think twice.

Rodgers really hasn't given any reason not to start him yet this year, but @ CHI & @ PITT week 14/15 is a tough decision w/ Schaub sitting on the bench vs Sea & @ St Louis.

Gun to my head right now, I say trade for Schaub. I just have a feeling the Texans (Schaub and A Johnson) are going to be hot the last few weeks. Circumstances, schedule, and talent are coming together in the last few weeks for the Texans.

I, too, am an Rodgers and Schaub owner and I'm not at all worried. I targeted those guys before the season because they had good complimentary playoff schedules and I definitely don't think it's time to panic now.

Plus likely no shot at the #1 or #2 seed with NOS and MIN playing so well.

That's a whole lotta ifs between now and then. The 49ers game is 4 weeks away, and right now the Cards have a 2 game lead.

schedules

Arizona:

@ St. Louis - seems like a slam dunk but if you have been paying attention the Rams are playing a lot of teams tough (ask the Saints)

@ Tennessee - 3 game winning streak since they switched to Vince Young, CJ3 killing it

Minnesota - team is playing at a high level and will have something to prove against a potential playoff matchup

SF:

@ Green Bay - playing something less than optimal

Jacksonville - beat the Jets last week but they have had road issues (0-41 at Seattle? are you kidding??)

@ Seattle - 2 of their 3 wins were against Detroit & St Louis

The 49ers finish the season with Detroit and St. Louis. I highly doubt Wisenhunt and his team are going to be saying "whew...should be smooth sailing from here on out" after week 14.

I've had Schaub & Favre all year. I just traded Favre away because there's a chance he rests weeks 15-17, I know Schaub will be slinging it up the very end.

Alex Smith? :gang2:

Jax

Sea

AZ

Phi

Det

StL

Weeks 16 and 17 are in a dome.

5 of these 6 are in the bottom 10 in pass D.

Eagles are no. 10 in pass D, but their secondary is seriously banged up and they are very vulnerable against the TE. (of course, Smith happens to have the top scoring TE.) Cutler had several open shots on Sunday night that he misfired on.

In a start 1 Qb league I couldn't bring myself to start this guy. In a start 2Qb I think he will be very good play.

Maybe Carson Palmer?

15 = at San Diego (most likely nice weather and having to keep up with the Chargers offense)

16 = home to K.C. and the Chiefs pathetic defense (weather could be a concern)

I hear you. Seems like a good guy to roster, if he's not already though.

I've been playing QBBC all year (good RB/WR corps) with Palmer and Ryan with moderate success. We play in Yahoo w/ 6 teams in playoffs so they start wk 14.Palmer looks good 15/16 but wk 14 against MIN makes me nervous. After last night's performance just picked up VY as a potential matchup play vs. STL in wk 14.Trying to trade for Flacco on the cheap given his 3-week slump who looks nice in wk 14 (DET) and wk 15 (CHI).

I'm curious about Favre. This is the time of year he has dove the last 4-5 years.

Favre has never let a team rest him in the past.

I'm in the same situation with Palmer/Ryan and it has worked for me also (9-2) with a clinched playoff spot. I picked up Josh Freeman on a flyer with a good matchup against Sea for wk 15, I may throw him in the QBBC depending on how well he performes the next few weeks. Ryan does not have good matchups for QB wks 15/16 Jets/Buf.

I can't believe I'm going to write this, but Vince Young.

If you went RB and WR early, chances are your QB1 is someone like Romo, Palmer, Cutler, Ryan or Garrard.

VY's schedule in weeks 14-16 are all home games vs. STL, MIA and SD.

He's not going to throw for 300 and 3 TD's, but since taking over as the starter 4 games ago, he's been remarkably consistent.

Completions: 67%

Pass yards per game: 156

Rush attempts per game: 8

Rush yards per game: 36.5

1 TD a game.

Good for over 16 ppg in most scoring systems.

Those aren't spectacular numbers, but he's minimized turnovers, is actually making good reads and is playing under control. TEN is trying to win-out and is fighting for their playoff lives, so VY will be on the field for all those games.

He may still be available on the WW and can be scooped up without sacrificing much depth like you'd have to do in a trade.

I packaged up Rodgers and went after Rivers. I believe Green Bay plays 3 playoff games in bad weather or vs. great D's.
