Arian Foster (1 Viewer)

No Way Jose

Look for this guy to be starting by the end of the year with Slaton being out. I could see him taking over the RB job in Houston this year and be in a pretty good time share with Slaton next year. I think that he is finally worth grabbing in deep dynasty leagues. Kubiack hopes to get him at least 10 carries this week to show what he can do. Good luck to him.

Hit it

Foster deserves his own thread anyway. Looking forward to seeing if he can make a good showing. The RB situation in Houston is terrible right now so a strong game from Foster could go a long way in making him fantasy relevant to close out the season. Beyond that who knows

Liked what I saw from Foster in college at Tennessee, although injuries and inconsistencies marred his career there. Some saw him as a plodder that was hard to bring down but generated little power. However, when Bloom and I saw him down in Mobile at the Senior Bowl practices we were really impressed. He runs hard, very determined between the tackles and has good initial burst. He keeps his pads low and his knees high, picks up his feet well when running through trash at the line of scrimmage. The Houston zone blocking scheme is perfect for him because he can take one cut and go. not very fast, and no second gear in the open field. Reminds me of Ryan Grant.

We were excited by his performance against some of the best Seniors in practice, and then he got hurt (again). This opened the door for Antone Smith, who was the replacement for him. Ironically, Smith was with the Texans earlier this year (now he's on the Falcons practice squad).

Dynasty players should be all over this guy. Definitely deserves his own thread.

Cecil,

Thought I'd let you know that I dropped Mike Bell for Foster yesterday. On its own it may just be white noise, but I seem to have the touch this year when it comes to RB's.

I picked up Forsett and started him in place of my season long RB2 Kevin Smith when he got me 25 points vs the Rams. The next week I picked up Jerome Harrison and got 21.7 from him vs the Chargers.

Although I don't have him in my lineup this week, I am hopeful I can use him next week when he plays the Rams.

Lets see if Kubiak is in enough trouble that he is forced to give the kid an extended look.

eta - I'm giving Forsett the start again this week.

Now that Foster has made his NFL debut, I`d be like to hear thoughts on him and his future prospects, especially from those who watched today`s game.

Even though the Texans stomped the Seahawks 34 to 7, Foster got 11 carries.

On top of that he averaged 2.6 yards per carry on those 11 after the Seahawks were tired and beat down.

He got 4 passes for 54 yards. So he finished with 9 points. Meh... so what. He isn't a small quick pass catching RB. So to finish with 2.6 ypc is very ho hum.

If that is who the winner of the Houston backfield is then I don't want him.

However, I guarantee you that the Texans will give a high paid Steve Slaton every chance in the world to reclaim the top spot next year.

Yeah, ran downhill well. Didn't show a lot of power, never made anyone miss. Pretty much got the ball, ran downhill until someone got in front of him, didn't get arm tackled but didn't run over people either. I wasn't impressed.

First, Slaton is playing on a rookie contract as a third round pick. He isn't high paid, at least not yet, though I'll grant you he does earn more than the UDFA Foster. Second, Foster showed with those four receptions that he is a rather effective receiver for checkdowns. His father was a collegiate receiver (missed a cut with the Broncos), so maybe that won't prove to be such a fluke for PPRs. The Texans O-line has been ineffective all season in creating holes for all of their backs, so Foster's ypc isn't entirely unexpected, especially when the passing game was as good as it was yesterday. The magic of the zone blocking scheme is waning, and the interior OL of the Texans is nothing special. Foster is big like Chris Brown, and he has good vision. Yesterday's game maybe didn't catapult him into the forefront, but he is still a good reserve to have on dynasty rosters.

I agree with all that. I own him on my FBG's Dyansty team, I was just saying that while worth owning it was nothing exciting and with Slaton there it makes it even less impactful... Just boring to me.

Kubiak seems willing enough to give him a shot.

Rotoworld:

Coach Gary Kubiak confirmed that RB Arian Foster will be showcased in the final three games with Ryan Moats losing a fumble and Chris Brown ineffective Sunday.

"We're fixing to pick it up big-time for (Foster)," Kubiak said. One of our favorite deep Dynasty sleepers entering the season, Foster is a big back with impressive pass-catching ability. He averaged just 2.6 YPC Sunday, but that number will pick up against the Rams next week. Consider Foster a flex option the next two weeks.

Moats with another fumble in the game yesterday put him back on the bench opening up some opportunity for Foster. Still Foster's ypc was terrible (Moats managed 4.3 on 10 carries in the same game) and he looked pretty pedestrian as a runner, but he did show some nice hands. St Louis is a tasty matchup for anyone desperate for a RB this week but the likely starting back for the Texans next year isn't on the roster right now.

Sometimes the flavor of the week tastes like crap.
LOLstl is a tastey matchup, so how much does moats' fumble cut into his touches? will he still be used at the goalline? or, is he essentially 'used goods' since kubiak will bench and he won't get any touches as penalty for fumbling?

I didn't see the game, but it looked like Foster's carries came late. Tough to get any holes when the other team knows you are running, because of the huge lead. I don't know if you can use YPC in this case, but again, I didn't see the game.

Hey this is a deep dynasty stash player. He is young and going to get a shot. Probably fail but when you are looking for long shots, this is exactly what you are looking for, a guy with a chance.

Take Kubiak's word with a grain of salt. He said Chris Brown would be the main guys last week and he got 3 carries.

Huh? IR players are still on the roster.
I'm hopeful Slaton will get another chance to be the lead back and turn things around, but I think it's much more likely we end up signing or drafting someone to be the 1-2 back with Slaton as the 3rd down guy.
yea, there is no question the Texans need a bruiser type back to get the inside and goalline yards ... Slaton is certainly still a very talented RB, but he is not an every down back and is not good enough to go b/w the tackles over the course of a season

Picked him up tonight. Interested in more insight into his abilities from those who have seen him play. Injuries have forced me to work hard at GM duties here in the semi's.

:lmao: I drank the Chris Brown Kool-Aid the last 2 weeks due to RB injuries. Never again.

Hard to read who will get the ball, but someone has to get carries against porous StL this weekend.

The way I see it:

C. Brown seems like he's used almost exclusively as a blocker. Has looked pretty bad when I've seen him run.

Moats has been decent but was pulled after his fumble in the last game. He was in the "dog house" for a few weeks the last time he fumbled.

From what I can tell, Foster impressed as a receiver out of the backfield. I didn't get a chance to see him run.

I see Foster like Ganther last week. Definitely a risky play but if he can get his touches, he should be able to do some damage against a bad run defense.

I hope Slaton will be back too, but his injury is worrisome.A friend of mine had the same kind of numbness in his arms/hands that was caused by a pinched nerve in his neck. His doctor told him that the surgery to fix it comes with the risk of paralysis. Let's hope Slaton doesn't need surgery.

idk, It could be me, but isn't this a "Arian Foster" and not a "Steve Slaton" thread?

You mean Slay Slay?

I was just checking out the Dodds projections and Bloom's 2nd Opinion Projections and those two are at odds over Foster's week 15 production. Nobody can agree with what Kubiak might do.

I am also deciding who I like b/w Foster and Ganther. I think Foster has the bigger upside, while Ganther seems to be the more dependable given his situation compared to Foster's.
