Ryan Mathews equivalancy (1 Viewer)

My question goes out to the people planning on drafting or have already drafted Ryan Mathews at the 1.1 pick: I have the 1.1 pick and like many I am a huge Ryan Mathews fan and would select him, but I also really like Bryant and Best and to some degree Spiller, trading to 1.2 is an option that would come with 1.12, so what would it take for you to have passed on him? Is Bryant + McCluster/G.Tate worth more then Mathews or Best and somebody that would come around 1.12 worth more? What would it take, assuming you are a mathews fan

I would take Bryant and the 1.12 for sure. I like Matthews but I'm not sure he's quite as good as everyone is making him out to be. I'd rather have Bryant straight up so it'd be a nice bonus to grab a late 1st rounder. I also think the gap between Matthews and Spiller/Best is rather small in ppr, so I'd be happy with any of them, though Matthews is set up for more immediate success than, say, Spiller, who may not get a ton of touches off the bat.

I found myself on both ends of the spectrum in some of my leagues this year.

In one PPR league I owned the 1.02. Dez went at 1.01. A guy who really wanted Mathews offered me his 1.03 and 1.07 for my 1.02 and 2.06 (16 team league, so the 2.06 was of diminished value). I took the deal because the 1.07 was a significant upgrade and I like Best almost as much as Mathews in PPR. Maybe even a little more.

In another league I had the 1.03 and offered it along with Mike Wallace for the 1.01, knowing that I would have to trade up to get Dez Bryant. I think this offer was more than fair, but it was rejected.

From what I've seen, you'll probably have to give up something like a late 1st-early 2nd to make a small move up at the top of the draft.

It's probably not worth it from a value perspective. In most years the value differences of prospects within tiers are exaggerated. Every now and then there are players who turn out to be head-and-shoulders above everyone else in their draft class. Adrian Peterson and Calvin Johnson qualify. It would've been worth paying a huge premium to move up from 1.03 or 1.04 to grab one of those two guys. For the most part though, the differences in talent between first round NFL draft picks are pretty slim. So while Mathews is a solid prospect, I don't know that he's significantly better than Bryant or Best (if at all). I would only move up if I were convinced that he was a cut above. I think he's the cream of this year's crop in non-PPR dynasty, but in PPR I think there are 3-4 guys with similar value at the top of the draft, so I wouldn't give up anything significant to get him.

A late 1st-early 2nd is too steep of a price. From an odds perspective those picks are worth roughly 50% of an early 1st rounder. I wouldn't give 1.5 early 1st rounders for 1 early 1st rounder unless I knew I was getting Calvin/Fitz/ADP.

Yeah I'm thinking if you can pick up a late first to move down from 1-2 to 3-4 it's worth it. There is always going to be a consensus ordering; but the top four are very close to the point of splitting hairs for me. I'd take a high pick to move down; especially if I didn't have a clear cut need.

If I was at 1.1, and the interested team was any lower than 1.3, the discussion would have to start with next year's #1.

I'm not trading away a 250-carry back for a great offense just to add Golden #######' Tate.

ive seen a guy in my rookie draft trade the 1.03 and a 2011 1st & 2nd rounder just to move to 1.02....He paid a helleva tab there.

But he took Best when the original guy wanted Spiller anyways.
