Does anyone think Andre Carter gets traded? I don't see the use for Carter at LB, at DE he is solid. I own him in a zealots league, he moved up to the top of my cut list, any chance he's on the move?

I don't think so. I am thinking he stays listed as a DE, at least for this year.

I think if he lines up at LB for 1st and 2nd down he will be a LB. We will see 1st week of the season where he ends up at. This happens every year when you think he will line up at a certain position and in training camp he gets moved.

Well, a few things would have to happen. He'd have to bet out Rey M, Dhani, or Rivers, for 1st and 2nd down duties. Then his designation would have to get changed, from DE to LB. I don't think either is likely.

Unless he starts running with the starters as a LB, I don't see them making that change for a while if at all this season. And yes, he could have a big season if he's on the field every down, especially if 60% of his snaps are at LB. :shrug:

They do, but I for one am glad to see them updating early. Just like they had added IR guys to the IR list already, last year and every year before they waited until the first injury report of the season, so in Dynasty leagues with an IR list, you had to wait for MFL to update to get the roster spots back. I have complained on their boards for years, glad to see them changing the way they do things.
 
I thought (Hoped) the Raiders were moving Wimbley to DE, but he was not, but yet they moved Scott and Groves to LB, which basically kills all of their value for all 3 of them. This is making me think McClain is going to have like 200 tackles cause everyone else just wants to rush the passer.

It worked to my advantage for years in one league, but that's still an anomaly.

That entire defense is an anomaly.There's people that can address this better than me, but Suggs definitely plays DE and LB. The Ravens run a true hybrid, and Suggs spends a lot of time playing DE. This came up during his FA year, and they even gave him a franchise tag that was in-between LB and DE.
 
From a thread discussing Suggs' positional designation in 2009:

I would imagine that the 2009 splits would again show that Suggs played more snaps at DE than OLB, if not moreso.

Trade him to boyce?I think Tim Crowder in TB is a guy to watch, MFL moved him from LB to DE. He'll play opposite Stylez and next to McCoy/Price, pretty solid talent.

I see Crowder getting some play in my deep dynasty leagues, but I think Kyle Moore is the play opposite Stylez White.

Kyle MooreLast year, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers used a fourth-round draft pick on defensive end Kyle Moore. Apparently, Moore was also getting only four hours of sleep per night.

According to the Tampa Tribune (via JoeBucsFan.com), Moore was "nodding off" in position-group meetings and team meetings last year. He also failed to grasp the team's defense.

The information has come to light now because Moore has lost 22 pounds. He'll be replacing Jimmy Wilkerson as the starting left defensive end.

"We feel like he's gained not just one step but maybe two steps, thanks to the weight loss," Bucs defensive line coach Todd Wash told the Tribune. "His agility, his quickness, that's what he was lacking last year.

"He was just real sluggish, even as a pass rusher. But now we're seeing the explosion we saw from him in college again and he's really locked in [mentally] on that left side, too."

The team plans for Moore to play defensive end on first-down and second-down, and then to slide inside in passing situations. "We think he's going to be fine there," Wash said. "We're really excited about him."

Hopefully, Moore is sufficiently excited to remain conscious.

The commish must have manually changed him to a LB then, cause MFL has Suggs as a DE by default. MFL uses rotoworld for their player positions I believe and Suggs is listed as a DL.If your league uses DL positions, then I would seriously consider looking into your rulebook a bit further and find out why Suggs is not listed as a DE as he should be.

However, I kind of think that Indy loses Freeney, Manning, Wayne, and the cover-2 all at about the same time in a couple of years, which would leave Hughes in some other system, facing offenses that aren't required to score on 2/3 of their posessions in order to stay in the game. He's really well suited to cover-2, but I'm not sure he can survive at all three downs in another system... he's pretty much Freeney and Mathis again from what I've read about him.

Actually this is Mathis' contract yr and I doubt they Franchise him next season...
 
For what it's worth, ESPN have also FINALLY fixed their IDP positions. Most tweeners are now LBers.

Won't list all of them because I can't find the definitive list, but your Dumervil's, Ware's, Sugg's, Pace's, Orakpo's are all listed @ LB solely.

Was only a matter of time before they fixed the stuff. Heck, they were playing Thomas Davis as a DB for most of the 08 season :lmao:

Both of those guys are being touted as almost-exclusive pass-rushers in Haslett's 3-4 scheme, i.e. Carter's now enthusiastic about his role after he was lousy as a OLB in SF because of coverage responsibilities, and Orakpo is predicted to rush the passer 600-700 times by Haslett after rushing only 200 times last year. These are pretty arbitrary designations. :coffee:

Orakpo and Carter will be 3-4 OLBs this year. It doesn't matter if their main role is rushing the passer. If they line up as OLBs without their hand in the dirt, I don't see how they can be classified as a DE regardless of how often they rush the passer. This is similar to Ware and Harrison. Suggs is a completely different story than any of the above and there have been numerous threads about his designation. I'm sure someone with a better recollection than mine can chime in, but if I recall correctly, he played DE about 60% of the time.

As I recall, a group of guys (or maybe just one guy?) from here studied Justin Smith's snaps as well when Rotoworld switched him to LB a couple years back. They studied the play history for him, submitted that info to Rotoworld (or maybe MFL directly?), and successfully got his position switched back to DE.

I am sure someone else on here knows more of the story - anyway, if there is someone you are SURE is lining up at DE more often than not (as opposed to just rushing the QB a lot), then there MAY be a method to get him switched in their system.

Other than Smith and Suggs, I can't think of anyone who is that much of a question, although I may be missing someone.

He's a LB in our league as well. According to our league rules we go by what he's listed at on the "official" team website as linked through NFL.com. If you click on the Ravens logo he's listed as an LB on their website so that's what we use. Most players are pretty consistent amongst the various websites....Suggs seems to be the exception.

If your league has a set of rulse of where the position eligibility comes from, then it is not an issue. I was more speaking about the fact that if Suggs is not listed as a DL in an MFL league, then it was manually changed. Whatever a league chooses as its position eligibility is fine, but if it was not set out in the rulebook or the league just uses MFL, then something fishy is up if an MFL league has Suggs listed as a LB.
 
Sure wish RTSports would report their switches. They do it the week of the kickoff game (did last year anyway).

Screwed things up big time as we drafted the week before. Plus, they had half the players right and half wrong. I had Cole and Suggs at DE and ended up with Suggs as my 5th LB. Redraft league, but who knows what they are going to do. I emailed them and they responded that when they make their changes they don't make an announcement.

Sounds like a pretty compelling reason to switch.
 
How often does MFL make their changes? Will they make changes again after say the 3rd preseason game? As Borbely noted, Williams for the mighty Lions is still listed as DE.. wondering when he'll be switched??

Yes, the early changes were unexpected this year. MFL has usually made modifications after the first "official" depth charts come out after the 2nd and 3rd weeks of the preseason. I'd think there'd be one more group of positional changes to come.

No they didnt. I have direct contact with them every year and all defensive position were set by the end of the 2nd preseason game.You may want to talk with your commish.

ftr: our league has a trade deadline 11 days before the opening Thursday night game, and we always contact them about a week before that and get assurances that no more changes will be processed.

Sorry, you are right. I was remembering wrong. What messed everything up last year was that the changes were different when you had 2008 listed or 2009 listed when looking at the high scoring players. Would sort them, but were still listed for 2008 and showed the wrong positions for some guys. Obviously when you listed 2009 everyone was ranked the same. Used draft dominator, but the scoring doesn't translate well.I'll just have to keep that one to myself this year.
