I'm not ready to say Tavaris would be top 10 if Brett doesn't play, but I was wondering the other day about his weapons. Has he even had such a talented group to throw to? Rice was bothered by injury here and there and just exploded last year. Shiancoe had been known for dropping passes until last season. With them coming around, and Harvin now on board, maybe Jackson will surprise this year...
I don't think top-10 is realistic unless his rushing numbers come around. His passing stats mirror Vince Young's pretty closely with the exception of a better TD/INt ration, which of course is significant. If I were making a knee-jerk prediction, the player I'd lean on for comparison is David Garrard. Garrard has finished 16, 12, and 11 in the last three years by rushing for 300-ish yards, scoring 2 or 3 rushing TDs, and being a completely mediocre passer. I don't think TJackson can get to the top-10 as that's a space usually populated by guys that can throw for 300 yards and/or 3 TDs in a game. But getting in to the top half of starters is WELL within reason.
when has David Garrard had weapons anything close to what Tarvaris has?I don't know about top 10 in his 1st season back as the starter, but it wouldn't surprise me. I think top 15 is a more realistic possibility.
Tarvaris was considered a project out of Arkansas State. He should never have been thrown into the mix that early. He has all the physical tools you want in a QB- mobility and arm strength being the best. After watching a HOF QB, I think he should now be ready to really emerge on the league as a legitimate threat. If his accuracy and decision making has improved then the sky is the limit.
Those talking about Sage, need to understand that Sage has been splitting the 2nd team reps with Joe Webb and some were speculating that he would be cut. Tarvaris is clearly ahead of both.
Either way, I'm rooting for him and am all aboard the Tarvaris bandwagon...I grabbed him in the 18th round of an upstart dynasty hoping for this day.
