Commish - What's the timer set at?

If a pick gets auto-picked for another owner are you immediately on the clock? Is anybody auto-picking that we know of?

a) I don't think they start off with a timer, but one might be implemented if you jerk around. I'd imagine 2 minutes.b) Only if you're nextc) Nope

Ok, I mixed stuff up quite a bit here. I am pretty happy with what I did, but I could be so weak at RB that this whole thing unravels. Because it was non-PPR, I opted to avoid RBs while everyone was going after them.

QB Aaron Rodgers, GB/10 (Pick 02.04)

QB Matt Flynn, GB/10 (Pick 23.09)

Analysis: Bob took Brees and Manning right out of the gate. I felt there was a significant drop after the top three (and with Bob holding two of the others, I opted to get one of the last studs. My reasoning was I could back up Rodgers with Flynn and save a roster spot over holding three mid-round QBs. It's an all-or nothing approach, but I think I will be OK here.

RB Arian Foster, Hou/7 (Pick 04.04)

RB Brandon Jacobs, NYG/8 (Pick 05.09)

RB Justin Forsett, Sea/5 (Pick 09.09)

RB Cadillac Williams, TB/4 (Pick 10.04)

RB Correll Buckhalter, Den/9 (Pick 11.09)

RB Julius Jones, Sea/5 (Pick 19.09)

RB Fred Taylor, NE/5 (Pick 24.04)

Analysis: I got a little too cute here as I had planned to add Huggins and he ended up getting picked a few picks before me. I did get Forsett/Julius Jones which should be one starting RB. I reached for Arian Foster, but I love his situation especially to start the year. I have a feeling this unit performs better than it looks on paper.

WR Andre Johnson, Hou/7 (Pick 01.09)

WR Santana Moss, Was/9 (Pick 06.04)

WR Devin Hester, Chi/8 (Pick 07.09)

WR Jacoby Jones, Hou/7 (Pick 12.04)

WR Laurent Robinson, StL/9 (Pick 13.09)

WR Lance Moore, NO/10 (Pick 14.04)

WR Brian Robiskie, Cle/8 (Pick 18.04)

WR Mike Williams, Sea/5 (Pick 21.09)

Analysis: Deep and anchored with the best WR. My plan was to lock down Jacoby Jones and Kevin Walter and I got a little too cute there too. I expect to start 4 WRs most weeks.

TE Antonio Gates, SD/10 (Pick 03.09)

TE Zach Miller, Oak/10 (Pick 08.04)

Analysis: I wanted Dallas Clark or Gates as they both have super soft schedules. I also think the the Chargers will lean heavily on Gates without Vincent Jackson to start the year.

PK David Akers, Phi/8 (Pick 17.09)

PK Graham Gano, Was/9 (Pick 22.04)

Analysis: Who cares, but I believe I am above average here.

TD Baltimore, Bal/8 (Pick 15.09)

TD Indianapolis, Ind/7 (Pick 16.04)

TD Cleveland, Cle/8 (Pick 20.04)

Analysis: Despite paying next to nothing here, this also looks like a huge strength of my team.

My gut feeling: As long as Aaron Rodgers starts all 5 games, I think this squad will advance to round 2.

I'll go ahead and post my draft from this...

QB

5.02 Rivers, Philip SDC QB/10

12.11 Henne, Chad MIA QB/5

17.02 Freeman, Josh TBB QB/4

In hindsight, taking Rivers was probably one of the key errors I think I made during this draft. I could've waited, snagged WR/RB value, and picked up Eli Manning or Favre on the next set of turns, whom I like about as much. I really felt a QB run coming, especially for guys like Rivers and Manning with late byes. But I missed on that. Aside from that, even though Rivers has a late bye, I felt pretty strongly about rostering 3 QB's and maximizing production out of the position as much as possible. Worked pretty well in the past, so I stuck with it. Felt like I got good value on both backups - should hopefully have no issues at QB this year.

RB

1.02 Jones-Drew, Maurice JAC RB/9

3.02 Thomas, Pierre NOS RB/10

4.11 Charles, Jamaal KCC RB /4

10.11 Hardesty, Montario CLE RB/8

15.02 Choice, Tashard DAL RB /4

24.11 Morris, Sammy NEP RB/5

I'm pretty satisfied here. Probably not tops in the league, but I think this group could shine. Having my top 2 RB's without byes for this thing, in a start 2 league, was really what I was aiming for. Charles felt like the overwhelming BPA in the late 4th. The rest...could go either way. Hardesty could be a value this year, or a worthless pick, really depends on Harrison. Choice, Morris...I think both have the ability to post a surprise game or two during this contest. I didn't handcuff anybody, so one injury to a key player will probably crush me, but it's a chance I'm willing to take.

WR

2.11 Moss, Randy NEP WR/5

7.02 Edwards, Braylon NYJ WR/7

8.11 Gaffney, Jabar DEN WR/9

9.02 Evans, Lee BUF WR/6

13.02 Williams, Mike TBB WR/4

16.11 Jones, James GBP WR/10

18.11 LaFell, Brandon CAR WR/6

23.02 Johnson, Steve BUF WR/6

Ughh, not sure what to make out of this group. Even though it's non-ppr, we still start 3 WR and another one could be flexed, so I didn't want to totally ignore the position. But once I saw who was falling while I was stuck on the turn, I knew I'd have to settle for some boom/bust WR2/3/4 types who could either go off on any given week, or stink. Hated taking Braylon, but he was the next best WR I had on my rankings, and I needed to start addressing WR again, having done nothing since Moss at 2.11. Hopefully he can put up numbers at least while Holmes is out. Gaffney, Evans, Mike Williams, James Jones - gonna need at least one of them to put up some nice numbers each week.

TE

6.11 Witten, Jason DAL TE/4

11.02 Keller, Dustin NYJ TE/7

22.11 Pettigrew, Brandon DET TE/7

No issues here. Gladly jumped on Witten at the end of Round 6. Should have some good production each week, with hopefully some occasional flex help from Keller/Pettigrew.

PK/DEF

19.02 Vinatieri, Adam IND PK/7

20.11 Buehler, David DAL PK/4

14.11 Saints, New Orleans NOS Def/10

21.02 Falcons, Atlanta ATL Def/8

If I take a hit week 4 by only having Vinatieri, so be it. I wanted two kickers from powerhouse offenses, and I got them. Defense...eh...no byes, good-great offenses, and their schedules match up pretty well, with the exception of week 3 where they play each other.

Overview: Really wanted a good followup to a 6th overall finish last year. I have mixed feelings on this one. Part of me thinks I nailed it, part of me thinks I whiffed. We'll see. I think I snagged some pretty nice value along the way, probably reached a round or so on a few players, but nothing that really sticks out to me. I didn't plan on completely avoiding any player with an early bye like some owners did, but for the most part I don't think I'm that screwed for byes. As long as 1) Keller/Pettigrew give me something in week 4, and 2) my WR's can survive without Moss in week 5, I'm optomistic. I think I have a shot.

4.02 Schaub, Matt HOU QB 7

8.02 Favre, Brett MIN QB 4

17.11 Edwards, Trent BUF QB 6

Obviously happy here. I got the guy I wanted in Schaub and there was too much value in Favre in round 8 to let him keep dropping. QBs are probably the strength of my team and I think I have the best QB combo.

1.11 Williams, DeAngelo CAR RB 6

2.02 Greene, Shonn NYJ RB 7

7.11 Brown, Ronnie MIA RB 5

10.02 Tomlinson, LaDainian NYJ RB 7

23.11 Norwood, Jerious ATL RB 8

Deangelo is a top 5 RB in this format. I was happy to get him at 11. He is in a contract year and is on one of the best rushing teams in the league. At 2.02, I had a decision since Rodgers was still on the board. I knew I wanted Schaub though so I passed on Rodgers and took Greene who I also think is a huge value in this format. He is on the other top running team in the league. Then to get Tomlinson in the 10th, it removes some stress of this pick. With both Jets, I have the top rushing team from last year on my team.

I wanted Ricky Williams in the 7th and he almost got there. I was happy to take Brown as consolation

This group is not deep, which could hurt if someone goes down, but I still like the group a lot.

3.11 Boldin, Anquan BAL WR 8

5.11 Bowe, Dwayne KCC WR 4

6.02 Garcon, Pierre IND WR 7

11.11 Burleson, Nate DET WR

12.02 Thomas, Devin WAS WR 9

13.11 Collie, Austin IND WR 7

14.02 Berrian, Bernard MIN WR 4

This group is pretty average at best, but I'm hoping that in best ball format that I can have a few guys post a number each week. I was happy Boldin slid to 3.11 and happy to get both Garcon and Collie. The rest are pretty ho hum.

9.11 Cooley, Chris WAS TE 9

15.11 Boss, Kevin NYG TE 8

19.11 Hernandez, Aaron NEP TE 5

This is an obvious weakness, but I chose to wait on TE since I don't think it has as much value in this format. Cooley was the last guy on my list of acceptable TE's so I had to grab him at 9.11. I liked what Hernandez did last night. He looked like a monster and was out there with the first team so I threw a flyer out on him.

16.02 Hartley, Garrett NOS PK 10

21.11 Bryant, Matt ATL PK 8

24.02 Succop, Ryan KCC PK 4

Got a top kicker and the rest are meh.

18.02 Bengals, Cincinnati CIN Def 6

20.02 Raiders, Oakland OAK Def 10

22.02 Texans, Houston HOU Def 7

Three very below average D's here. Obviously I'm hoping luck plays a roll each week in this format, but this is my weakest group by far and could end up hurting.

Overall, I thought everyone drafted great. Drafting at 11 is pretty tough, but I am happy with this team from that position. I think this team has a shot.

Going in, I wanted to hit RB hard, avoid byes while I build the foundation, then fill in with whatever. I didn't execute as well as I would have liked. Both of my shoulders hurt from reaching so much last night.

QB

5.07 Cutler, Jay CHI QB 8

7.07 Manning, Eli NYG QB 8

Happy with these 2. The Bears are not good, I'm foreseeing a lot of shootouts with them. Eli is solid with a very good set of receivers. May have went too early with them, but being able to forget the QB position was a relief later on. Wanted to get Kolb in the 6th, but that was not meant to be.

RB

1.07 Jackson, Steven STL RB 9

2.06 Mathews, Ryan SDC RB 10

8.06 Jones, Felix DAL RB 4

9.07 Maroney, Laurence NEP RB 5

12.06 Jackson, Fred BUF RB 6

Meh, not deep enough to handle any surprises. Banking on a rookie and recovering back surgery guy to carry the squad. Turner or S Jackson were lined up for the 7th slot. Liking Mathews so far, but I'm usually pretty down on rookies. Felix slid a long way with all the Barber hype, so I'm happy with him in the 8th. I like the home run hitters in best ball format. Who knows what's going to happen in New England, Maroney may be a wasted pick. If Jackson takes a week or two into the season to finish healing, I'll gladly take the 3 or 4 games that he plays in when the byes kick in. Group is not deep or particularly strong, but I did not want to toss late picks out on garbage guys just to boost the numbers.

WR

3.07 Jackson, DeSean PHI WR 8

4.06 Crabtree, Michael SFO WR 9

10.06 Houshmandzadeh, T.J. SEA WR 5

11.07 Aromashodu, Devin CHI WR 8

13.07 McCluster, Dexter KCC WR 4

14.06 Murphy, Louis OAK WR 10

16.06 Henderson, Devery NOS WR 10

17.07 Chambers, Chris KCC WR 4

More yawners. Should have grabbed another RB in the 3rd or 4th, but I really love Crabtree this year. After those 2 I let the position simmer for a bit before I took out a handful of darts and hurled them at the screen. Landed a couple of guys in Murphy and Henderson that could end up with 1/65/1 stat lines in any game that is perfect for a non PPR best ball league. Was surprised Chambers was avoided like the plague, I had him in my watch list for about 4 rounds before pulling the trigger.

TE

6.06 Celek, Brent PHI TE 8

21.07 Fasano, Anthony MIA TE 5

24.06 Cook, Jared TEN TE 9

Kolb and Celek are attached at the hip, so I felt comfortable waiting a long time at TE after getting Celek. He should provide stable weekly numbers. Was going to just go with 1 TE for a while, but eventually decided to toss a couple more bodies in there at the end.

K

18.06 Gould, Robbie CHI PK 8

19.07 Longwell, Ryan MIN PK 4

20.06 Scobee, Josh JAC PK 9

Definitely wanted 3 kickers with the large variance in points week to week. Just tried to avoid position battles here.

Def

15.07 Chargers, San Diego SDC Def 10

22.06 Buccaneers, Tampa Bay TBB Def 4

23.07 Seahawks, Seattle SEA Def 5

Another position where you never know what you're going to get so I wanted some quantity. SD 'should' be solid with their early schedule, but you just never know.

Overall, not my best effort. I would probably feel better if I went RB the first 4 rounds. I wouldn't be shocked if I'm in the cellar, RBs are thin and questionable, and I don't have another position to make up the ground should any of them stumble out of the gate. As was mentioned during the draft, this was a very solid group. I just wish I wouldn't have run out of beer. Looking over the rosters, I don't think anyone played the draft like a fiddle, this should be an interesting 5 weeks.

Wow, McCluster is going that high now? I nabbed him at the end of the 18th in league 2. Amazing what a week and a half can do to a players ADP.

I will say that drafting behind St. Louis Bob is distracting. Half the time I was not sure whether to pick or ask him if he mis-clicked the mouse and needed a re-pick. It could have been an intentional distraction and if so, it was genius.

:kicksrock: He's only missing Vincent Jackson for the suspension trifecta. He did make up for it with his great stories in chat. Especially that one about the bank robbers.

 He probably would have lasted until the 18th. I wouldn't factor anything I do into an ADP calculation.
He looked really good in the first pre-season game. Wouldn't surprise me if he's going around rd. 13 right now.

Agree. I started eyeing him in that range, but thought I could wait a round or two. Unfortunately, he was taken.

I was all over the place last night. My first draft of the season, and it showed. Not expecting much, but enough value that I could surprise if the gigantic crater I have at TE doesn't kill me.

QB

Tony Romo (4.10)

Joe Flacco (8.10)

Kyle Orton (13.03)

I would think 3 QBs are a must in this format, unless you've made a deal with the devil like Dodds apparently has. Romo's bye in week 4 caused me to reach for Orton a bit earlier than I'd like to ensure I had a solid starting QB to mix with Flacco that week.

RB

Frank Gore (1.03)

Rashard Mendenhall (2.10)

Knowshon Moreno (5.03)

Marion Barber (7.03)

Darren McFadden (10.10)

Mike Bell (19.03)

Obviously I'm high on Gore to the point of taking him over AP and Rice. Being a start 2 league, I wanted 2 bell cows and got them. I'm not high on Moreno, Barber or McFadden, but thought they were BPA when I took them. Decent shot 1 of those 3 get flexed most weeks.

WR

Calvin Johnson (3.03)

Malcom Floyd (6.10)

Eddie Royal (9.03)

Mohamed Massaquoi (11.03)

Legedu Naanee (12.10)

Mario Manningham (14.10)

Got 2 guys who should be every week beasts (yes, Floyd is a top 15 WR this year folks) and took the quantity over quality approach hoping that Royal and MoMass get targets and Naanee fulfills the flashes I've seen the past 3 years. Manningham blows.

TE

Tony Scheffler (15.03)

Bo Scaife (20.10)

Marcedes Lews (18.10)

I didn't intend to punt TE, but I didn't see any point in which a TE offered value when it was my turn to pick. Seemed like the TE value was always at the other end of the draft. Obviously I somehow screwed the pooch here, and it will likely come back to haunt me.

DEF

TENN (16.10)

NYG (17.03)

DET (21.03)

JAX (22.10)

I was very surprised at how early DEF's and K's went in the draft. I wanted at least 3 rolls of the dice with DEFs each week, but ended up with 4 average D's and no bye weeks. The very definition of a crapshoot.

K

Who cares, right? Apparently joke's on me, as I think I'm the only guy who waited until my last 2 picks for kickers. LOL at JoeT taking a K in the 8th round. nOOOOOb.

I went into the draft with a similar strategy to many others….avoid week 4/5 byes for the starters and try to get value at every pick. Most of us were on our game (or at least entertaining in the case of St. Louis Bob), so not a lot of value slipping through. I didn’t rule out drafting players with bye weeks, but wouldn’t do so if there is a suitable alternate.

QB

9.06 Stafford, Matthew DET QB

11.06 Campbell, Jason OAK QB

13.06 Moore, Matt CAR QB

My plan was to grab a top QB early or go for quantity over quality. I obviously went for the latter and hope this weak spot doesn’t sabotage my chances. I targeted some QBs earlier, but they either never made it to my pick or there was a more attractive RB/WR. The only positive spin on this trio is no bye week issues!

RB

1.06 Turner, Michael ATL RB

2.07 Wells, Chris ARI RB

7.06 Hightower, Tim ARI RB

8.07 Brown, Donald IND RB

15.06 Huggins, Kareem TBB RB

18.07 Ringer, Javon TEN RB

19.06 Snelling, Jason ATL RB

I wasn’t set on going RB/RB, but figured this is the direction I would go based on the scoring system. I love Turner and like the prospects of Wells (and later paired him with Hightower), but I’m a little nervous about depending on the Arizona ground game. Not sold on Donald Brown and considered Flacco, but no bye week issues and saw a big drop off after him. Then I ignored RB for several rounds, but was happy to get super sleeper of the moment, Huggins (the only bye week player). Ringer and Snelling (handcuff for Turner) seemed like a good way to round out my RBs. Won’t wow anyone on paper, but it works for me.

WR

3.06 Colston, Marques NOS WR

4.07 Nicks, Hakeem NYG WR

5.06 Sims-Walker, Mike JAC WR

6.07 Owens, Terrell CIN WR

10.07 Bryant, Dez DAL WR

20.07 Tate, Brandon NEP WR

23.06 Bennett, Earl CHI WR

Even though this isn’t PPR we start 3 WRs, so I wanted to get 3-4 solid WRs that didn’t have bye week issues. Didn’t get any top tier guys by waiting until the 3rd round, but Colston, Nicks and Sims-Walker will (hopefully) be nice plays if healthy. May have reached for TO in the 6th, but he is the WR2 in Cincy and Palmer will look to him early and often. Added Dez later on despite the injury concerns and bye week. Tate and Bennett are later round fliers. I generally take more 1-2 more WRs in a best ball format, but needed those spots at QB and TE.

TE

12.07 Carlson, John SEA TE

16.07 Gresham, Jermaine CIN TE

17.06 Watson, Ben CLE TE

My one starter with a bye week issue, so I added a couple more that will play all 5 weeks. Gresham is a question mark, but Watson could be the #1 target of Delhomme. I do like Carlson, but this is similar to my QBs….ugly on paper, but hopefully good enough to keep pace.

Def

14.07 Packers, Green Bay GBP Def

21.06 Cardinals, Arizona ARI Def

No bye week issues! …and I like the Packers D ....I thought it was interesting that 30 defenses were drafted......thought we could do all 32, but no dice.

K

22.07 Feely, Jay ARI PK

24.07 Dawson, Phil CLE PK

No bye week issues! ….but U-G-L-Y ….hoping for a couple FGs a week to keep pace

Overall, a very smooth draft and good group of guys. I think I'll be in the mix for the 3rd or 4th spot to advance, but after doing this contest for two years it's nearly impossible to predict.

I thought you had a dominant first 6 rounds alonegunman. You set yourself up perfectly to scoop up late value at TE and QB, but you passed up a lot of people I thought were locks for you to take.

Yea, thanks for throwing a wrench in my plans right off the bat. :kicksrock:

 Anytime, my cheesehead friend.

I got invited to join this league on short notice taking Clayton's place after he had to sub for another staff member in another league... so I didn't get my full prep time in for this draft, and it kind of showed here.

QB

6.05 Matt Ryan

11.08 Vince Young

17.08 Matt Hasselbeck

Matt Ryan was kind of a panic pick as QBs were coming off the board early and often. I like Vince Young in the 11th as I think he will build on last year's momentum. All the reports out of camp are that Hasselbeck should do okay if he manages to stay healthy.

RB

1.08 LeSean McCoy

2.05 Cedric Benson

5.08 Jerome Harrison

7.08 Clinton Portis

14.05 Bernard Scott

23.08 Kevin Faulk

My RBs look pretty solid to me. Three of the top four here should post numbers each week.

WR

3.08 Chad Ochocinco

4.05 Brandon Marshall

8.05 Derrick Mason

10.05 Jerricho Cotchery

13.08 Chaz Schilens

16.05 Josh Cribbs

21.08 Brian Harline

19.08 Roy Williams

The WRs look pretty average here. I think I might of got caught up in the hype that Chad will post some numbers with TO taking some of the pressure off. I like Brandon Marshall in the 4th, except for the week 5 bye thingy. If my RBs perform up to expectations, I really only need three of these WRs to post numbers each week.

TE

9.08 Kellen Winslow

12.05 Greg Olsen

TEs went off the board much earlier than I expected. I had my eye on Zach Miller in the 8th and missed him by one pick. I was really surprised to see Dodds take him when he already had Antonio Gates.

PK

18.05 Nick Folk

24.05 Jason Hanson

Six kickers were already off the board, so I locked in on Folk. Dallas usually gets off to a fast start, so I should be okay here.

DEF

15.08 Chicago

22.05 New England

20.05 Miami

Seven defenses were already off the board, when I selected Chicago. I do see Chicago's defense bouncing back this year. Miami and New England should both be solid this year as well. I believed they slipped to me late because both have week 5 byes. Chicago has a tough matchup on the road against Carolina in week 5 as well. That could spell trouble for this unit.

All in all a pretty average squad compared to the other teams in this league. I'm going to need a little luck and a couple of these guys to out perform their ADP for me to advance to Round 2. Even then, a couple key week 5 byes could spoil the fun.

This was my first draft of the year and first in this format so I was excited, but not excited about the 12th slot in a 5 week season. Like others, I tried to avoid byes but in tweaking my numbers to do so, I believe it hurt the quality of my top guys. I was caught a bit off-guard when my first pick was approaching and I was reconciling in my mind my recently tweaked 5-week numbers with who I would take with full season projections. So my first four picks were unorthodox, and I was really struggling with trusting my board. But I fought through it and had fun.

QB – Grade B

6.01 Kolb, 8

10.01 Palmer, 6

With eight QB’s off the board I chose Kolb as my QB1. After Kolb’s performance last year, and Andy Reid’s willingness to part with McNabb, much like GB with Rodgers/Favre, I believe Kolb will be solid.

Palmer is another year removed from surgery and he has weapons. I was tentatively planning on 3 QB’s but with weakness at TE and Flex I needed quantity there. As was mentioned, I was very surprised that StLBob took Brees and Manning.

RB – Grade C-

1.12 Grant, 10

3.12 Bradshaw, 8

4.01 Addai, 7

7.12 CTaylor, 8

13.12 LWashington, 5

18.01 Gerhart, 4

Since it’s a FLEX league, RB’s are always at a premium. Being at pick 12 was a severe disadvantage and when the ¾ turn came I needed a couple RB’s.

I like the potential of my three upside RB’s. If Gerhart gets any GL looks he may sneak into my lineup.

WR – Grade B

2.01 RWhite, 8

5.12 Maclin, 8

8.01 Breaston, 6

9.12 Wallace, 5

15.12 Heyward-Bey, 10

16.01 Doucet, 6

22.01 JNelson, 10

24.01 Avant, 8

Not a fan of Leinart but I need him to perform here. Breaston and Doucet are the reason Boldin was expendable. Hoping to hit on Yr2 WR’s here with only one Stud WR.

TE – Grade D

11.12 Shiancoe, 4

14.01 Heap, 8

23.12 Fells, 9

Had to reach for Shank (including his Bye) after my other plans for TE picks were snatched up. Took Heap as his schedule is good. Go Fells! TE is a huge weak spot.

K

17.12 Tynes, 8

19.12 Graham, 8

21.12 Nugent, 6

DS

12.01 Eagles, 8

20.01 Redskins, 9

Overall – Grade C. I’ll need some guys to really step up to have a chance to advance.

Other Thoughts – I would’ve preferred to see at least a few drafts with Double Serpentine, 3rd Rd Reversal or Flip as the teams at the top have a distinct advantage in Serpentine.

Interesting that Dodds went with only one team QB.

My other drafts are right before the season starts so this was nice to get me to think early outside the box from my regular hybrid drafts. I appreciate the invite. Good luck everyone!

Nothing terribly crippling for anyone during the preseason. I think IE and SLB would need some kind of catastrophic event to move on, but any of the other 10 can move on with a favorable cookie crumble or two.

No real surprises here.
