Rolando McClain (1 Viewer)

I had that game on in the background. I didn't see (or hear) much that seemed impressive about him. He was merely competent, not more, not less.

4-3 MLB's, especially rookies, tend to need at least a few weeks to adjust to the speed of the game and their responsibilities. I've seen this happen before so I figure he'll grow as September and October roll on.

I watched most of the game and kept my eye on #55 quite a few times. He seemed like he was out of position on a lot of plays and also missed some tackles. He also seemed to bite on play action more often than not. I also think he will get better as the season wears on, but yesterday's performance was not encouraging, especially for someone (like me) expecting Kirk Morrison-like numbers.

He was my first IDP. I wish I picked someone else...
I haven't watched him play (yet) but MLB's have a lot of responsibility and can often take more than a couple of games to have the light go on. I'm not ready to give up on him yet, though I'd sure like him to be more productive.

I also picked him first. This guy is a complete dud. If Morrison can excel in that position, I don't see any reason why McClain can't. One more game and then he's out of there.

just traded for him in my dynasty league.. took advantage (I hope), of an impatient owner that wasn't willing to let McClain develop. His immediate upside remains very high..

He just looks slow and disinterested. He has no motor and no intensity whatsoever. You can teach fundamentals and I'm sure they'll come, but you can't teach heart. He doesn't have 'it'.

Agree. You watch him and then watch Patrick Willis. It's night and day. Patrick is always moving and is rarely even stationary on play. He goes to the ball like a heat seeking missle. He has that great instinct that McClain seems to be sorely lacking.

He just got dropped in my league. I was really surprised to see that.

I know that his speed/range was an issue coming in to the league? Is that the problem for him so far or is it more of a mental thing (being out of position, etc.)?

Is he a good guy to target at this point?

I think st louis only had 33 tackle opps --- oak nearly doubled up on them in # of plays, and dominated the clock 36 min to 23 min, although I don't know what his excuse was in week one.

he should be similarly opp starved this week, but after that it might turn around a bit --- hou, sd, sf, den.

He's hogging up space on my bench and I'm seriously going to drop him if I don't see improvement in week 3. Among rookies, Daryl Washington and Sean Weatherspoon look much better so far IMO.

Also, with the exception of SF, I really don't like Oakland's upcoming schedule for McClain to produce big numbers.

Some guy in my league just dropped Jon Beason. Do you think Beason is a better Tackle/Big Play LB oppurtunity then Rolando McClain.???

Or is Sean Weatherspoon or Derrick Johnson better choices. ??

10 team start 1 idp -- 10 pt sack, 1 pt tkl
10 point sack and 1 point tackle?? WOW!! No wonder... so in this league John Abraham is more valuable than all your top linebackers (well, except for the one's who get a lot of sacks ala Clay Matthews)? Very interesting scoring right there..

Ok, I give up. McClain's moved to the end of my bench. I need to wait for Poz and Crowder to get healthy, but in the meantime I'm going to start Quincy Black over him.

How can a 4-3 MLB be this invisible?

Could his poor stats be due to a lack of opportunites? I dont think Arizona is the prime matchup is has been in years past. Anyone see this game that can chime in?

The AZ Cards are a bad match up for MLB... Lofton also scored horribly against them the week before.

I tossed him in my lineup because Houston was supposed to be a golden matchup for MLB....phfttt......that wont happen again until I see him explode ON MY BENCH. Hopefully he can get this figured out by the end of the season and I wont have wasted all the money I dumped on his ### during the draft.

I think you want him to to figure it out BEFORE the end of the season.

I played him in Week 1, benched him in Weeks 2 and 3, but played him as a flex yesterday, only because Derrick Johnson is on a bye. I hoping he'll post a big week, then I'll trade him. Can't get anything for him right now.

If you didn't realize that's where I was going you need to loosen a couple of your screws... :lmao:

"– Middle linebacker Rolando McClain is fond of downplaying anything he’s seen in the NFL as having already seen it at Alabama in the SEC. He wasn’t saying anything Sunday, brushing off the only reporter who approached him with a brusque no comment and heading for the door.

No reason to explain why he was walled off by tight end Joel Dreesen on Ward’s game-opening 33-yard scoring run, or how Foster beat him for an 11-yard touchdown pass to make the score 31-21.

That stuff did happen all the time in the SEC. Except it happened to Vanderbilt."

Al Davis strikes again! Maybe Al is just cursed, as McClain was not perceived as a draft reach.

A little too early to be calling him a bust, no? So he didnt explode onto the scene like many of us expected, who are we to say things won't slow down for him eventually? I can see where you're coming from, but calling him a reach after 4 games seems a little over the top.

I wasn't aware of him poo-poo'ing the transition to the NFL. Hopefully his poor performance comes from a cocky refusal to prepare and he'll get that changed after his eye-opening experience so far.

He didn't call him a reach. He was actually saying that he was NOT considered a reach where he was drafted, just that the Raiders might be cursed.

Ah yes, the big old curse that reveals itself after 4 games. Gotcha

In fairness, the "curse" is 4-for-4. The Raiders defense isn't cursed. They've had some good players and IDP's. McClain just isn't clicking now. Maybe he never will, but we'll just have to see. Right now he's LB7 out of 7 on my roster. Thank God Poz is back and Crowder's getting healthier.

Can I dump this guy yet? I figured with Houston his opportunities would be way up, but alas, I am disappointed again. Were the opportunities down against Houston or can we expect more of the same going forward against better opponents?

– Linebacker Rolando McClain’s absence was explained as “a loss in his family’’ by Cable.

“He should be back by some time tomorrow,’’ Cable said.

All, Rolando McClain WILL BE considered a bust. I have been doing IDP for over 17 years. During pre-season, you can always tell whom are the players that have "IT". I was excited to see him play because I usually draft a rookie LB very high(Ryans, Willis, etc) because their upsides are great....

I wanted him to be the next Willis, but from Day One, McClain showed absolutely no speed on the point of attack. He did not anticipate well. I never saw him SHOOT into the backfield and all too often got manhandled by an offensive lineman. His instincts, speed and ability to anticipate are just not there. 5 weeks into the season and I have not seen improvement. Most rookie LB's at this point at least show 1-2 plays a game why they are going to be studs.......McClain has not...period. I would hate to say that he will be no more than a Channing Crowder 5-7 tackle guy. REMEMBER: This is an Oakland defense that has been Fantasy Gold with MLB's. McClain is a 3 down LB for God's sake. I don't see it as a learning curve, I just don't feel he is very good.

:lmao:

I am not getting rid of him and will give him a pass for this season if he doesn't show improvement. I had drafted D'Qwell Jackson his rookie year and was very unimpressed with what I saw after watching every game he played. Traded him away in the offseason and in year 2 and 3 he looked like a totally different player. It happens.

I don't wanna find excuses for this guy but one of his relative (probably his grandfather) died last week after being sick for the last couple of months (this was from August 14th, http://twitter.com/Jerrymcd/status/21186980870 )

Do you think it's possible that this tragedy has affected his mind and consequently his play on the field ??

Anyone see the game? Where was he? Was it a lack of tackle opportunities?
Insofar as being a sucky player = a lack of tackle opportunities, yes, it was a lack of tackle opportunities.Maybe he can develop somehow, but he's a complete babe in the woods out there right now. I'm going to keep him on my (40-man) roster into next season barring a crisis, but this ain't looking good.
