Overreaction early in the season (1 Viewer)

I would NOT recommend the shark pool for newbies or the casual fan for the first few weeks of the season. If you listen to the advice on these boards about rankings, who is good, bad, steal, bust, etc; you will end up being a big, fat loser come playoff time.

What I would take from the Shark Pool if I was a newbie -

Sell everyone who had a bad week 1, this includes Gore, Turner, Greene, etc;

Buy Arian Foster at any price minus CJ2k,AP. BUY BUY BUY. Example from the Asst Coach Forum-

"Is this an upgrade? Would you make this trade?

Arian Foster and Cadillac Williams (my team)

For

Frank Gore and Ryan Mathews

My thoughts- The 49ers offense makes me worry about Gore's production. Gore's Health worries me."

It is just ask sickening that this guy is asking this question as much as it is that the guy who offered it.

Another example is Nicks vs. Marshall thread where 60% voted that Nicks will be better than Marshall this year. Truth be told, I can't stand Marshall but this is borderline insanity.

Call me a loon but I would rather have Gore, Mathews, Marshall over Foster, Caddy, Nicks but it sounds to me like the Shark Pool is extremely split on this. WOW. Just two weeks ago your draft would have had Gore in round 1 (top 7), Mathews in round 2, Marshall in the 3rd or 4th at worst. Foster in round 3, Caddy in round 12, Nicks in round 7. People would really dump their first 3 picks in a draft for the 3rd, 7th, 12th picks. Come on now.

People just need to calm the "Insert expletive of choice here" down. The season is long, one week does not make the season. It is unbearable reading the Shark Pool this week, I would strongly suggest to those who are influenced by hype and shouting to avoid this place for the first 4 weeks of the season because if you listen to the chanting your team is going to go down the toilet.

agreed but it's good info to see how others think and has led me to send out a number of email feelers in the event some owners really did sour in 1 week.

There is a balance to this however. I would suggest that the idea of not paying attention to things in the SP for the first 4 weeks is the equal to panicking after week 1. The truth is more in the middle.

For most leagues, 4 games represents almost 1/3 of their regular season. I don't think you can be anywhere near that unresponsive. In a competitive league, it very often is the guy that swings for the fence (and connects) that wins.

So it's a balance. If you can have this discussion cooly about where that balance lies, that's great. If you want to have "it makes me sick / you're throwing your team away if you don't listen to me" type discussion, find another board for that. TIA.

Ask us again in _____ weeks (however many weeks left to the play-offs).

Seems like a reasonable amount of time to see if your entire squad sucks #### or just _________ (fill in the blank with random player's name).

It's only been 1 week. Step away from the cliff.

I would have told you that Nicks would have a better year than Marshall before the season began. I still believe that will be the case. Marshall isn't catching 100 passes in this offense. Miami isn't going to be playing from behind like Denver the last few years. And Miami's running game isn't going away. Nicks' breakout is going to happen this year and he'll be a 2nd round pick in 2011.

It's too late to get Nicks on the cheap, however, saying that "it is insane to think that Nicks is better than Marshall", by your own definition is insane.

For sure it's a balance. You just can't listen to the voices chanting the flavor of the week, of course you have to pay attention for example to Arian Foster, the guy was amazing and he should get a nice bump but not to #3 overall. I am agreeing with you here Joe, balance is the key here.

I think looking at week 1 receiver targets information can be valuable. Info on injury replacements from homers is also useful.

You missed the point. I have zero problem with believing you, what you are saying is fine, there is always a few who think outside the box. The point here is if you ran a poll 2 weeks ago the results would have been 90% Marshall, you would have been on that 10% side with Nicks. Now that one whole week has passed and Nicks is at 60%, so 50% of the Pool has changed sides after one week, that is an overreaction if you ask me.
