Portis injury (1 Viewer)

Saw him in street clothes after the injury which could mean nothing for the near future or it could mean a lot. Seeing as how Torrain has been a really hot topic on this board of late, I am surprised to not see any dedicated posts to Portis' status.

Has anyone heard any more than a groin and maybe an ankle (not confirmed as far as I know)?

Clinton Portis says he heard his groin pop

Clinton Portis said he heard his left groin pop in the third quarter of Sunday's win over the Eagles.

Portis immediately went to the trainer's table, stretched himself out and then came back in for the first drive of the fourth quarter. Predictably, he aggravated the injury again and went to the locker room. Portis is set for additional tests on Monday and his availability for Week 5 is in serious doubt. Ryan Torain would be the feature back if Portis sits. Oct. 4 - 10:43 am et

Time to sell high on Torain this week. Here's hoping the "Torain Train" hype gets rolling once news breaks about Portis' status.

I like the way you think. Dump Torain to a desperate owner with Portis and/or bye week problems. Get an upgrade somewhere else out of the deal. I don't think Torain is anything special and the team will not be effective running the ball this season.

In regard to the sell/hold comments - as with EVERYthing in FF (and life), its about context. If you need a player, and packaging Torain can get you an upgrade at a needed position, or good bye/injury replacements that can keep you in the playoff hunt, you do it. But I do agree there is upside here, and potentially more value (even a lot more) than he holds today... but value is a slippery thing, and be lost as quick as a turned ankle, fumble or countless other potentials.

Exactly, just ask the VICK owners who held out the last 2 weeks, and rejected some really nice offers.

Well I'm guessing a lot of people held onto Vick because they saw the potential he had to put up solid fantasy numbers the rest of the way.... not because they wanted to keep driving up his trade value with each good performance.

Any new updates? I couldn't find any on CBS. They say he's still awaiting the results of the MRI. How long does it take to get info about an MRI?

Packers this week then the colts. I'm hoping torain is the man against the colts, that could really skyrocket his value to trade or even to take portis job.

Would anyone recommend dropping Portis in order to pick up Torain from the WW? I will not list my other RB's for fear of this sounding like something that belongs in the AC Forum. But basically...does Torain or Portis hold more value for the rest of the season?

torain has more value for sure. torain will carry the load until portis comes back, which is at least one game as a great start. then they likely will be around 5050 split.

Torain has more value IMO. Portis is breaking down. Portis will likely miss this week and maybe a week or two after depending on the MRI. Once Torain gets established and Portis comes back, I'd think at worst Torain will get half the carries.

ooooofph. That sounds painful. I'm glad I had the #1 waiver priority last week to grab Torain. Depending on how well he plays, he can really take a handle on this job, the window is wide open for Torain.

this is huge news. i grabbed torain late last week after some of the threads on him. props to the shark pool. i know the wash o-line is very suspect, but can those who are in the know/wash homers chime in on expectations. i haven't been able to watch a single minute of redskin football. i've been trying to trade torain, but there have been no takes before this news broke. so, if others have traded him, what's he going for?TIA

I passed on Torain and took Kenneth Darby on waivers last week. I'm so happy right now, you have no idea. Yay.

Portis was starting to lose his grip on the job, anyway. Is he droppable in redrafts now? I have to think he is. Nobody's going to pick him up and if Torain stinks up the joint, you can just grab him a couple weeks before he returns if you're desperate.

the question is it too early to drop Portis and add Williams as a handcuff to Torain now?

4 to 6 weeks takes us to week 8-10... Portis could still come back and steal some carries come FF playoff time, thereby frustrating Torain owners all around (provided of course Torain lasts and/or is ffective until then)

Clinton Portis' third-degree left groin separation involved the muscle being torn off the bone.

It's almost certainly a season-threatening injury, and for a player in great danger of being released in the offseason, a potential career-threatener. The Skins have yet to activate Keiland Williams from the practice squad, but it'll happen before game day. They'll need to make a transaction to clear space.
Washington Post

Adam Schefter is reporting Portis will be out 4-6 weeks with his groin injury. Joe B just sent an email as well.

all aboard the Torain

For those in an auction waiver system, is Torain worth an all in? Especially, for those who own Portis.

From Rotoworld:

The Washington Post suggests that Clinton Portis "has played his last game" for the Redskins.

Portis' recovery from a separated groin will be no easy task, and first-year Redskins coach Mike Shanahan is pursuing a "roster overhaul" that includes replacing aging, declining veterans with younger players in at least some cases. Said Shanahan Wednesday of Ryan Torain, "He’s a top back in the National Football League. There’s no question about it." Portis is a good bet to end up on injured reserve. He's due $8.254 million in 2011.

Im 4-0 and not in any need to make desperate moves in the league I have Portis in, but I dropped him for Brandon Tate. This injury sounds like 6 weeks minimum considering how banged up Portis has been the last couple years, plus throw in he isnt exactly a fast healer. Week 12 almost sounds more appropriate to me as his realistic return where he'd get more than a handful of carries. Im sorry, but IMO thats just someone gathering dust on my bench who I wouldnt feel confident starting once the playoffs come around anyway. Was real high on Portis going into this year too, but he seems like a waste of roster space at this point
