Good luck today, Donks fans. I have zero read on this game. The Broncos don't even attempt to run and the Ravens have a supposedly suspect secondary, so we'll see. Ravens are at home, so I'm giving them the edge. Maybe something like 24-17.

Lets go Ravens! No let downs after last weeks win!

I expect Orton to throw the ball 55 times for 400yds but Ravens still pull it out.

Ratbirds have owned this series of late but also have experienced letdowns after Steeler week. I look for them to continue playing a very vanilla defense against Kyle Orton, blitzing only a moderate amount of times and instead hanging back in coverage and keeping everything in front of them.

Agreed. Ngata & Suggs have to generate a pass rush against - can't believe I'm saying this - Kyle Orton.

Stupid play call on 4th down. Cam's in his cutesy playcalling mode. Hell, run the damned ball again. If they stuff you, they've got 99 yards to go.

58 yard pass to back up TE only to me stoped 4 times inside the five...Just the way it had it scripted :wall:

Baltimore has 2nd and goal from the 1 and runs it twice with McGahee, getting stuffed twice. They go for it on 4th down and call a pass from Flacco to Ngata (no, that's not a typo- Haloti Ngata, defensive tackle, was the intended receiver), but Denver gets a huge sack.

First off, going for it on 4th and 1 was absolutely the right call. Typically the worst case scenario there is that you get stuffed and give the other team the ball on their own 1 yard line. With that said, the playcall was... puzzling, to say the least. Haloti Ngata is not the kind of guy you should be going to on 4th and goal, and by taking a sack Flacco missed out on the biggest advantage of going for it on the 1 yard line, because Denver starts their drive at the 15 now.

On question for Baltimore homers... why does McGahee get all of the goal line work? Is he really better than Rice at it, or do Baltimore coaches just want to keep Rice fresh? Every time I see McGahee in goal-to-go situations, I'm always struck at how mediocre he is at it. And that's being generous. Is Rice just epically terrible?

I think this mystifies a lot of Ravens fans. My personal take is that the coaches want McGahee to feel like he has a role - if something happens to Rice, they want him already involved. I don't agree with this, as I think Rice's style of running (squirting through microscopic spaces) would be fine.

"Puzzling" is a very polite term for what Cam just dialed up there. It's hard to tell if Rice is bad at the goal line since we never see him in those situations.

Much better play calling down close. Flacco sneaks it in.

Appropos of nothing, I just noticed I put LeRon McClain in one of my lineups when I meant to insert LeShon McCoy

How is McGahee in the role? Usually convert short yardage, goal line?As a Rice owner, I would love for him to get carries in the red zone. There is no doubt he would be successful. But if it ain't broke, why fix it? If McGahee is doing well in the role, the Ravens would be fools to switch them up.

There's one for Rice at the GL.

this could be the changing of the tide foir rice and GL looks. mclain and willis stuffed multiple times today. rice makes it look easy.

Every time I see him, he looks average-at-best. I wouldn't call him a "good" goal-line runner, and any success he has is more directly a result of the sheer volume of opportunities rather than any special ability on his own part. At least, that's always been my impression, which is why I was asking how bad Rice must be if he's losing work to that guy.And then, right on cue, Ray Rice gets the score. On the first drive, McGahee had two attempts from the 1 and couldn't punch it in. On the second drive, McClain had an attempt from the 2 and couldn't punch it in. On the third drive, Rice gets a carry from the 1 and walks in easily.

And now a fumble on the ensuing kickoff return. Broncos in danger of letting this one get away from them early, especially with their defense unable to put up any effective resistance other than the first goal line stand. Flacco is 8-9, 145 yards already.

Demaryius Thomas is still on the field after a vicious high-low hit on the kickoff return. He's getting up and walking off with trainer assistance.

sorry, but taking your best player out simply because you're inside the 5 has always seemed idiotic to the average fan/layman. but what do i know.

If he looks average, then Rice needs to be in there. He was awesome in the role at Rutgers, and I think he would be awesome in the NFL as well.

That was a puzzling penalty. Terrell Suggs went into the neutral zone, Clady flinched out of his stance in response, and so the officials called... false start on Jabar Gaffney? Huh?

Andre Brown takes a snap and shows the world that Lawrence Maroney isn't the problem. The problem is an offensive line that used to be one of the best in the league before McDaniels decided to totally overhaul the blocking system. Knowshon Moreno won't do any better when he gets back if the offensive line keeps letting defenders into the backfield immediately after the snap.

Edit: and a holding penalty. I remember when the line used to be a strength.

:hophead: Something has got to be done. Orton can't keep attempting 50 passes a game.

Can't get beat deep at that point late in the half. But a sweet pitch and catch by Orton and Lloyd. Momentum has swung this quarter.

I don't usually listen to the announcers but I caught the info that Ravens opponents have been been the most penalized of anyone's in the league to date. I know that was certainly a factor in the wins in Pittsburgh and New York but does it mean anything other than you're lucky the other guys are screwing up? Or does your own competence influence the other guys into screwing up?

Willis McGahee and LeRon McClain have 4 carries inside the Denver 2, and have 0 TDs to show for it.

Ray Rice has 2 carries inside the Denver 2, and has 2 TDs to show for it.

Why is Willis McGahee the goal line RB again?

:lmao: McGahee showed a nice little juke last week running in for a TD.I guess they go with whoever is hot that day, and today it is definitely Rice.

Man, Orton throws a pretty deep ball.

Things were stacked against him, though. The Broncs were behind all day and the defense couldn't get off the field (over 400 yards in offense for Baltimore). In particular, the Ratbirds ran the ball really well and that may be the best way to keep a good passing team, which I think Denver is, off the field.

Good win for the locals before they travel to New England, where some of you may remember them winning the last time they were there.
