Calvin Johnson Injury (1 Viewer)

Lions are up big, Calvin Johnson dives for a 29 yard catch down the sideline and he makes the grab. He has injured his shoulder on the play, the pads are off and they're wrapping up the right shoulder. He doesn't look to be in terrible pain, more of a discomfort look. My guess is a bruised shoulder.

Tom Kowalski reported that it did not look like anything serious on the sideline, but of course you never know. Hope he's alright.

KFFL) Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (shoulder) was having his shoulder checked on by trainers on the sidelines during the team's Week 5 game against the St. Louis Rams, reports Dave Birkett, of the Detroit Free Press. It appeared the trainers wrapped ice or something else on his shoulder but seems to be moving around fine.

Calvin is very close to getting the "injury Prone" label added to him
Also very close to having an extra 2/3 TDs and having everyone relax.
:lmao: That and considering his jaw-dropping God given physical beastliness he really has never lived up to the immense hype. We all wish he could attack the ball better, use his size more to shield DBs, have better hands, and perform on a consistent basis, but still Calvin is proving to be a solid WR on a team that still has some major holes.

I'm going to say this kindly but I know you didn't see this game today if you're saying you wish he could attack the ball better. Calvin Johnson was very close to having a 3 TD day, made some unbelieavable catches that didn't get counted with 2 or 3 guys on him. I know his point total didn't show it, but he looked like a STUD to me today. He's going to end up with 10 plus TD's easy this season, as long as this injury turns out to be just a bump.

"...on a consistent basis." Why doesn't he look that way every week? As a perennial Calvin kool-aid drinker and owner my hope is that something clicked and he wont have his "fall off the map" weeks.

anyone else not wanting Stafford to heal up soon?
Hill has been very solid. I thought he was decent in SF, but he feel out of favor with the coaches. It is good there is no reason to rush Stafford back. Let him recover and be mentally ready to play.

Who does this every week?

Can you unwrap this for me? I didn't see the game.

Think he's referring to the catch Calvin made where he didn't get his 2nd foot down in the endzone -- called a TD and then overturned..I also think there was another PI, and if I remember correctly, Hill missed him in the EndZone on another.

He really has looked beastly every week i've seen hiim this season, with the exception of the 2nd or 3rd week, i don't remember which. Physically, skill wise and all around talent level, he is around the same level as the best in the league (Andre Johnson, Fitz i would say are the 2 best judging purely on talent/skill). If he gets the targets he will produce. He has had some bad luck this year, like the obvious TD catch being disallowed in the first week, and almost getting 2 more TD's in this last game. Calvin is the type of guy you want on a keeper. As long as he stays away from serious injuries, he will be a stud for 10 years into the future. I would put Calvin and Fitz as top 10 overall picks in dynasty. Who would you rather have over these 2? They will be stud WRs in this league for more years than most of us will play fantasy football going forward...ok, that's an exaggeration, but 8 years into the future is not an overstatement. What's Calvin 25 years old? Fitz is 26? Moss is what 34? WRs, especially stud WRs, tend to last a lot longer than RBs. Calvin is without doubt a stud WR.

Update: From Rotoworld

Coach Jim Schwartz conceded Monday that the Lions are "very concerned" with Calvin Johnson's injured right shoulder.

It appears the injury may be more serious than it looked on the field. "We’ll see how it goes this week," said Schwartz. "It’s probably too early to make any determinations." If it's a severe sprain or dislocation, the Lions may try to time Johnson's return with Matthew Stafford's (shoulder). They could get two weeks off for both by holding Stafford and Megatron out against the Giants in Week 6. The Lions' bye falls in Week 7. Oct. 11 - 3:10 pm et

Just stop it already. We have heard this every week for the last two years. Seriously, go back and read Lions and Calvin Johnson threads for the last two years. The words "almost", "could have", and "should have" have been used more times in regard to Calvin Johnson than they have the entire rest of the league combined.

Hopefully they just let him heal. I'd rather be without him for a couple weeks than get a repeat of last year when you were never sure when or how long he was going to play.

Hill played good this week but he still threw passes that normal WR's can't get to. The play where Calvin got hurt was a really bad pass that he was able to come up with.

They can't sit him too long or they run the risk of losing too many games and missing the playoffs.

He was being sarcastic guys, come on

Just as I say that:From Rotoworld:

Coach Jim Schwartz hopes Calvin Johnson (shoulder) can practice this week."He is doing some tests (Monday)," Schwartz said. "He's no worse than he was (Sunday), but this is something that's going to develop through the week." Schwartz made it clear that Johnson wouldn't have been able to practice Monday, but "it's a long way to Wednesday and a long way to Sunday." It sound like Schwartz is not prepared to rest Johnson in advance of the Week 7 bye if there's a chance he can play.
Not too much info still but we should know later what the test results bring. Cross your fingers and toes.

At this point last week Lovie Smith was saying he was hopeful Jay Cutler would play against Carolina. How did that work out for Cutler owners.

When guys get hurt like this, it seems like a waste of time to play them even if they play. Do you really want to rely on him if he is out there, not 100%, short arming all of his passes?

I learned my lesson with AJ.

According to Yahoo's player updates, MRI results will be released Wednesday. Hard to get a read on the situation given how Schwartz treats injury information.

Big difference between an upper and lower body injury for a WR. AJ has a bum ankle - hard to get open, cut, start/stop, jump for the ball. Even if you can handle the pain, there is a real limitation on a WR with a hurt wheel.CJ is a shoulder injury. IF he can play and deal with the pain / not get hurt further, I don't see as much an impact. A cortisone shot, adreniliene etc. should help. You are talking an 80% player vs. a 50% player, if that.Of course, none of this much matters until we hear actual information i.e. MRI results and doctor reports and will he practice THURSDAY and how much.

No comparison at all. You're comparing a concussion to a shoulder injury. The league has taken a much harder stance on concussions. Frankly, any player that has a concussion I would consider OUT the following week. It's happened multiple times this season alone (Kolb, Cutler, Bradley, etc). They are saying the same coach speak in GB, but I would be surprised if Rodgers is on the field this week. My guess is he's out.As for CJ's shoulder injury. As I recall Louis Murphy and DBH also had shoulder injuries, were listed on the injury reports, and still played in the game. I am hopeful he sees the field, but how effective will he be against the Giants? I'm playing him for lack of better options and because I believe he will get the targets.

I'm getting pretty tired of Calvin's injuries. Every year, it is something. The guy needs to MAN UP and/or learn to avoid contact.

It is always something.

An injury.

His quarterback's injury.

The coaches don't know how to get him the ball.

He's double / triple covered.

The refs jobbed him.

Whatever.

Sick of excuses.

Performance at some point need to equal expectations or he just isn't what everyone proclaims:

A stud WR.

Nope.

And as far as his injuries, I don't think I've ever owned a player where I literally cringe everytime he hits the ground. The guy is a physical beast yet I feel like he'll shatter into a thousand pieces.

It just all fails to add up with this guy.

Thank god I have Nicks in round 5 to help with the continued frustration.

KY
