Jermichael Finley's timetable to return from arthroscopic surgery on his right knee is actually more like 6-10 weeks, not the 3-6 week as originally reported, according to the National Football Post's Brad Biggs.

If Finley's recovery does take him near the 10-week mark, it certainly makes missing the remainder of the season a possibility. It'd be a huge blow for the Packers, who will also be without Donald Lee for at least a couple weeks.

just read this. guess he's safe to drop with shallow rosters. Can't carry dead weight for what might be the whole season.

 
Do you think Rodgers will throw to the backup TE's as much as he did Finley or now it will be all Jennings, Jones, Driver, etc?

I'll predict IR will come after their BYE week
 
Now might be a great time to stash Lee as most people will ignore him because of his current injury situation but should take over as the primary TE in a week or two.

It sounds like the surgery included a full meniscus repair, as opposed to a routine "scope." The National Football Post also has close Packers ties, so such a negative report holds water. According to NFP, "there is no way Finley will be back in the next month." If Finley's recovery takes him near the 10-week mark, he could be done for the regular season.

Again Donald Driver will outplay his ADP big time. (already was) but with this injury he will be heavily leaned on to move the chains. James Jones get's a decent bump too.

Jennings...well we know his story (deep threat ala Alvin Harper).

I'm gunna go ahead and wait for more news sources to confirm this before I dump him for good. Already have Miller in my lineup so I don't need to make room for a backup.

 
How did he get injured again? He was trying to make a tackle, right? That sucks. Green Bay has no running game, a depleted defense, and now they have no tight ends. Their offense looks like the Broncos now, except Orton is out-performing Rodgers.

Doing the same. Waiting to see how he progresses over the next couple weeks.If he is still on crutches then, I will most likely drop him.

Andrew Quarless will be the guy they use over Lee for the rest of the season. (or at least some form of Quarless/Crabtree/Lee)

I think the speculation is they won't throw to Quarless as much and just start running more 3 WR sets with Jones getting more looks.Not totally buying it.Im bumping Driver and Jennings if anyone right now.Supposedly Rotoworld was reporting the coaches were meeting to get Jennings more involved in the offense.And Driver has long been the go to guy when you need a big catch on 3rd down.

Agreed. I can afford to wait. Some others might not be able to if their rosters are small, but even in my league with 14 roster slots I am hanging on to him for now. Was awarded Moeaki on waivers this morning so I think I'm okay for this week at least.

Really glad to hear you got Miller. I see from your sig you must have acquired him either going into the week 5 games, or just afterwards.Please update your sig with your starters this week ASAP.
 
Geez...guess I shouldn't have laughed at the owner who offered me Shonn Greene for Finley three weeks ago...nor traded away Scheffler a few days before Finley's injury.

It hasn't been a great week to be a Green Bay Packers fan -- the loss to the Redskins, the concussion to the Aaron Rodgers and the torn meniscus injury to Jermichael Finley were all bad news.

Things could be getting worse, too, as there's a report out there indicating Finley could miss the rest of the season.

Brad Biggs of the National Football Post is reporting that Finley's recovery time, initially diagnosed at as low as three weeks, "will be more like six to 10 weeks and if it's at that outer limit, Finley's availability for the season will be very much in doubt."

This is a HUGE nightmare for a Packers team that's struggled offensively much more than anyone thought they would -- Finley ranks 25th in the league in receiving yards and though his other stats (catches, targets, touchdowns), but the athletic freak is a gamechanger, matchup-wise, for the Packers offense.

Losing him hurts right away because the Dolphins are particularly vulnerable to athletic tight ends, but if he's done for a lengthy time, coupled with the fact that the Packers have no rushing game to speak of, Green Bay's "super" season forecast changes dramatically.

Update: Greg Bedard, our Packers Rapid Reporter, reports that Finley will be "out longer than three weeks after surgery, but right now [the] season is not in jeopardy.

Greg_A_Bedard Finley is out 8-10 weeks. Packers are deciding right now what to do. They knew he would be gone for about 4 weeks so they could wait.

hmmm so I can decide to buy low for a late season push, or sell since he's out for the year due to conflicting reports. bad day for a Finley owner.

 
Unless they really need the roster spot, id guess they would wait to IR him for a few games.

If they can win some more and put themselves in better position, they will keep him on the roster to be avaialable late in the season or postseason.

If they drop a few, IR.

 
I had the same procedure 2 years ago (repaired lateral meniscus). Took me 6 months to get to full speed, and I don't weigh 250.

He's done.

Reason 1) It's a structure that has to be protected and takes time to heal.

Reason 2) They won't be in contention without he and Grant. Season goes down the tubes. No need to come back this season.

Reason 3) Quarles will be serviceable and produce enough to be safe with Finley.

That remains to be seen, but Quarless does appear to be a pretty decent backup to replace Finley's role. Much more so than Lee.Here's hoping that Quarless can do a Fred Davis and cover admirably while the star starter is out.

with all their injuries and needing depth, and with harris, starks and bigby coming off pup they could use the roster spot.

Which buys them a few weeks.They can wait on Starks or if Bigby is not ready. They have I think 3 weeks after they are eligible to come off the PUP to make a roster move on them.But yes...this year of any, they likely need that roster spot.
