***Pre-Game Thread*** New York Jets at Pittsburgh (1 Viewer)

I'm glad it's the Jets because it's better for the Steelers to play at home, and because I believe New England was the best team in football. BUT- this will not be an easy game by any means. The Jets are an extremely good and confident team and I have a feeling it will be a nail biter all the way. I just hope we can come out ahead at the end.

If the Jets lose now, it will probably be the most devastating loss of my life as a sports fan.

So since its the Jets, I'm fully expecting it to happen.

Pitt by a FG. Not sure Sanchez can keep it going.

Polamalu and Miller being healthy will mean alot unlike their first game when Matt Spaeth dropped two game winning TD.

Steelers 24

Jets 13

This game reminds of that South Park episode where they have an election for a new mascot.

Since the increment of annoyingness would go up less with a Jets loss, I shall root for not-Jets next week.

 :lmao:

Here are the reasons that I think the Steelers should be favorites to win:

1. The Jets were successful today keeping drives alive by running the ball. The Steelers are much better at stopping the run than New England is. Mark Sanchez faced several 3rd and 5s today; against the Steelers, those are 3rd and 9s.

2. The Jets offensive line also did a good job of protecting Sanchez, especially in the 2nd half. Again, I think the Steelers have a better pass rush than New England and Sanchez will be forced to make quicker decisions.

3. I noticed today that New England was able to move the ball on the ground but was impatient with it. The Steelers will be able to run the ball as good or better than New England did and should stay with it longer.

4. Pittsburgh has faster wide receivers than New England does and I think they can stretch the field. Of course the key to this is how much pressure is placed on Roethlisberger- but unlike Tom Brady, Big Ben is used to having guys in his face, and as good as Shaun Ellis and company were today, I doubt they can improve on Suggs. So the Steelers will have more big plays than New England did.

But this game will be close and the Steelers have to make sure to avoid turnovers and special team mistakes. If they can do so, I think they they will win a nailbiter. Steelers 24-20

This game can be summed up by who can create the most turnovers and convert those into tds.

Semi-annoying historical information:

Since the merger (i.e., starting with the 1970 season when the AFCC and NFCC replaced the AFL and NFL championship games)...

Steelers in AFCC for 15th time. 15 conference championship game appearances for the Steelers breaks tie with the Cowboys for most appearances (14) in either conference since the merger. Raiders are second in AFCC appearances with 11.

Steelers host AFCC for 11th time (5-5 in previous 10). The Dolphins are second with 6 home AFCC games. The 49ers are second overall with 8 home NFCC games.

Steelers are tied with Raiders and 49ers for most AFCC/NFCC losses with 7.

Steelers have most home losses with 5. 49ers are second with 4. No other team has more than 2.

Jets are 0-3 in three road AFCC games. The Jets of course won the AFL championship in 1968 prior to their SB III victory.

The Steelers are fighting some history. Teams that made the AFCC the previous year when their current-year AFCC opponents did not have won eight straight such instances since the 1985 AFCC (NE 31, Miami 14).

People keep pointing to Troy being out for the last PIT/NYJ meeting, but just as important was Heath Miller being out too. Ben was looking for the TE in the endzone at the end of the game and Spaeth choked. Heath would have made that catch.

With a healthy team and keeping turnovers minimal, I am confident in PIT.

I'm just glad the refs made sure that the Steelers wouldn't have to play the Patriots. I don't know what the refs did, but they have to have done something... right????

Maybe they drugged the Patsies gatorade or kidnapped Giselle & told Brady that he would never see her again if he didn't throw the game.

Wallace was wide open on the last play.. right under the goal post.. ben never saw him..

Spaeth dropped five catchable balls that game. And Revis covered everyone but Wallace. I am guessing that will change, which is ok by me with how the two rookies have been playing.

That probably won't happen. The speed of Wallace can still burn an excellent cover corner.

My first reaction is the Jets just played their Super Bowl and will have nothing for this game, resulting in the Steelers winning in a rout.

If one of the AFC teams goes on to win the SB, during the celebrating which drunk should women fear most?

Roethlisberger or Namath?

My 11 yr old son just played Jets-Steelers matchup on Madden 11 and he came to the same conclusion with Ben throwing for 9 tds.

You left out one big one...Nick Folk has 6 missed FGs under 50 yards so far this year...many that seem painfully makeable, including one today that could've hurt them. Guy doesn't seem like he can handle pressure kicks well. And Heinz Field is the last place you want to bring in a kicker that has trouble with clutch kicks...

Ouch.I'm not touching that one.But I can guarantee the outrage over the officiating will be greater if the Steelers win compared to any of the other teams still standing.

Oh momma I'm in fear for my life from the long arm of the law

Lawman has put an end to my running and I'm so far from my home

Oh momma I can hear you a'crying you're so scared and all alone

Hangman is comin' down from the gallows and I don't have very

long

The jig is up the news is out they've finally found me

The renegade who had it made retrieved for a bounty

Never more to go astray

This will be the end today of the wanted man

Oh momma I've been years on the lam

And had a high price on my head

Lawman said get him dead or alive

Now it's for sure he'll see me dead

Dear momma I can hear you a'crying

You're so scared and all alone

Hangman is coming down from the gallows

And I don't have very long

Interesting contrast in travel. Since the December 5 win in Baltimore, the Steelers have traveled just once, in Week 17, to Cleveland.

Week 14 CINCINNATI

Week 15 JETS

Week 16 CAROLINA

Week 17 at Cleveland

Wild Card BYE

Divisional BALTIMORE

Conf.Champ. JETS

Conversely, the Jets, starting in Week 14, have played:

Week 14 MIAMI

Week 15 at Pittsburgh

Week 16 at Chicago

Week 17 BUFFALO

Wild Card at Indianapolis

Divisional at New England

Conf.Champ. at Pittsburgh

If you're going to be known as the Jets should travel really bother you?

Mike Wallace had 7-102-0 last month when they played. Can Revis shut him down this time?
IIRC the tall burner types are usually Cromarties duty, Lets see if Rex switches it up
He should. Cromartie seems to get burned as often as he makes a big play, and a big play or two by Wallace could be the difference. Revis shutting down a somewhat over the hill Ward would seem wasteful.
