"Though the Vikings have a premier slot threat in Percy Harvin, they need significant help on the outside. The only experienced player there is Bernard Berrian, who wasn't one of three players the Vikings waived on Thursday but has a cap number ($6,258,333) that could put him on the chopping block once an alternative is secured." - Tom Pelissero (article on FA WR search)

Berrian isn't going to amount to anything even with McNabb. Braylon Edwards is not impressive either, but the Vikings need new blood. Our WR corp is just going to be Percy and a bunch of washouts.

But on the bright side: Maybe Visanthe and McNabb will make a good team?

It's like we're in the short WR sweepstakes. Don't be so sure that Shank will find success just because McNabb came along. I may be wrong, but the TE isn't exactly the focal point of a Bill Musgrave offense.

The over/under on wins is 6, IMO. I think I'd bet the under.

Yeah, can't say I'm expecting much this year. I think we're looking at a 2-5 team to start the year, with Ponder then being given the reigns. I hope I'm wrong, but I just don't think Donovan has anything left. I would've rather had them pay Culpepper a million a year than give McNabb 7 per year to be their one year holdover for Ponder, especially without Rice now.

*IF they sign a Starting WR and find a decent DL man & CB then...I'll take Vikings at Home vs. most...

Tampa, Detroit, Arizona, Oakland, & Denver.. And it never seems to matter what level each team is at, the Packers and Vikings tend to split most year. So going with 6 home victory's.

Road victory Washington and either Carolina or KC.. Otherwise the Road schedule is daunting..

7 to 9 victory's is within reach..

If they don't pickup a Starting WR and some defense help then yes, 6 is about right.

Well it looks like the Vikings are showing Pat the door by signing a poor man's version of himself.

Vikings inked Remi Ayodele to 3 years at 9 million.

Are the Vikings trying to stir up old nightmares!? I just got over pissing the bed in terror! I doubt he's anything other then a stopgap and is somewhat of a liability against the pass. However, he is skilled at the old high/low.

Yeaaah I need to see what the numbers are on the deal before I go too crazy, but what the F are the Vikings thinking here!? I'm thinking that we're done pursuing WRs now, because Frazier keeps talking about the monster year BB is going to have. Outside of UDFAs he's the tallest WR we have. I just don't see him being an effective red zone target though considering he averages a shade under 3TDs as season. Is anyone happy with this signing!?

Not disappointed in it, just not the "splash" I was hoping for. I wouldn't be happy with it except for Musgrave must have seen something he liked otherwise he wouldn't have brought him in.I really do think they need to get Berrian running 'go' routes again...he didn't do that last year (just slants - which isn't his game). Not saying he'll be great, but if they use him in way to maximize his skills I think he will be much better than last year. Jenkins, Camarillo, Aromoshodu, and Jaymar competing for 3,4,5 and I think they will be solid (not great, but solid) at the position.

I like Ponder, he reminds me of Steve Young and I hope he works out, BUT, if we knew we were gonna get McNabb then why didnt we take Fairley or Prince and pay Sidney Rice to stay?

That's a good question, and I think the answer must be that they aren't sold on the idea that McNabb'll last the whole season. Ponder is a long term pick, with all luck. Of course, not being able to land McNabb before the draft or trade during it would certainly impact how they went. You can't draft based on assumptions of how things will work out after.

To me, because the organization wants to try to find a long term solution at QB. Also, I don't think Rice was worth the money. He had one good year with Favre having possibly having his best season. Rice is good yes, but I personally don't think he is worth that kind of money.

If McNabb is our guy this year, (and you can't tell me our coaching staff didnt know that) then we should have been making moves that were best for this year. That means drafting players that will be contributing this year. And I disagree about Rice, he's a fantastic talent. Rice made Favre look good, not the other way around.

From Rotoworld:

Bryant McKinnie - T - Vikings Vikings LT Bryant McKinnie reportedly appears to be "well over" his listed weight of 335 points at training camp.McKinnie has a history of weight problems, ballooning to 360 by last season's end. It's also no secret that McKinnie likes to party. The team has placed him on active/NFI to open training camp and can withhold pay if McKinnie doesn't get his act together. It's a major concern for a very poor Vikings line.
Can't wait until this turd is off the team.

Dreams may be coming true sooner rather than later. :excited:

Vikings to release overweight LT McKinnie? NFL Network Vikings correspondent Ari Wolfe suggested live from Mankato Tuesday that LT Bryant McKinnie could be released in training camp.Wolfe was only speculating, but the sentiment was echoed by NFL Network's Jason La Canfora and is undoubtedly becoming a possibility. By all accounts, McKinnie is severely out of shape and believed to weigh even more than the 360 pounds he ballooned to by last season's end. (He's listed at 335.) McKinnie is due a $4.9 million salary plus $750,000 in bonuses, the latter of which are being withheld with McKinnie on the the active/NFI list. Monday's signing of Charlie Johnson appears to be a direct indication of the Vikings' concern.

Read somewhere that Tony Gonzalez lead the NFL last year in redzone targets. I may bump Shiancoe up a couple spots. :coffee:

ETA for TE's that is.......

The Jenkins signing isn't going to help your receiving corps, but it's not designed to, I'd bet. Jenkins is one of the best blocking WRs in the game, and I bet he's a huge bolster to Adrian, Gerhart, and even screen plays to Harvin and such.

If the OLine can do a bit better than last year, and some defensive help comes along, this team could potentially hit the 9 win range on the basis of 20+ a game for AP and 12+ for Gerhart plus 6-9 short routes for Harvin. I think the gloom and doom is a bit much for you guys right now when the run game could be absolutely dominant.

While the offense won;t be the greatest, the defense is really Minnesota's problem.

Their run blocking is atrocious.

I know its probably been beaten to death but I still can't get over the Gerhart draft pick. Terrible. First pick is a backup to your best player and doesn't bring anything new to the table. At least keep the pick and take Best for a different kind of back.

Our Oline is so overrated, McKinnie is terrible, Hutch is getting old, Sullivan, Herrara, and Loadholt were very average. No WRs besides Percy who should only play in the slot. TE's are ok and the QB situation is what it is.

On D, still no safety's or second corner. LBs losing Leber who wasn't that special to begin with. Line is ageing and losing two starters.

:wall:

Is there anything to look forward to this year, can't remember the last time I was so doom and gloom before the year. Feel terrible for Adrian.

I absolutely agree. But Jenkins will help that. And they weren't that bad last year were they?

Yes. They were.
Injuries, lack of depth, and regression. It was a trifecta of disaster. I don't think I've ever seen worse run blocking from the vikings.Does anyone know if we scrapped the zone blocking scheme? We always had the wrong guys for zone and chilly just wouldn't scheme for personnel.

From the StarTribune:

MANKATO -- The Vikings have cut left tackle Bryant McKinnie, according to multiple reports.McKinnie came into camp much heavier than expected and was placed on the non-football injury list Monday. He had a $4.9 million base salary and $1 million roster bonus for this season. Vikings coach Leslie Frazier said today that the newly signed Charlie Johnson would start out playing with the first team at left tackle.
Can I get a "Hell #### yeah!"? :headbang: :pickle:

Should have cut him when he pissed all over the pro bowl two years ago. Not that the pro bowl is anything but he wasnt interested in being a professional.

Money for Floyd or Edwards now?

The guy is so physically gifted it makes me sick to see it come to this and we really don't have an answer for his position. It just hurts our chances this year even more... gonna be so rough.Still.... :pickle: :pickle: :pickle:

Not feeling it this year. I'm thinking 6-8 wins if everything goes well. The NFC North could be a beast this season-- in a different year this team as presently constituted might contend for the playoffs, but not the way the rest of the teams look right now. Probly looking at last in the NFCN. Again.

Some training camp reports are better the others but this one is totally unbelievable. http://www.kfan.com/...ikingsblog.html

QBs Looking Rusty - It should be to no surprise following a long lockout that the QBs accuracy is not quite there yet. In 7-on-7 drills today, Joe Webb, Christian Ponder, and Rhett Bomar combined for double digit interceptions proving that they have yet to establish a familiarity with the receivers.

The quarterbacks as a whole seem to befavoring the side of the field where their vision opens up. For instance, Christian Ponder being a left handed quarterback drops back with his body open to the left side of the field, thus his immediate vision is facing to the left. This was clearly evident as he was often seen hitting receivers on the left while never glancing to those on the right. As he continues to work on his footwork, timing and vision, we should hope to see him open up to both sides of the field and utilize his entire receiving corps.

Is this a joke? Christian Ponder should look rusty if he throwing the ball with his left hand. Ponder is obviously right handed.

Story just shared on NFL Network that I thought you Vikings fans would enjoy.

Ponder received a playbook on that day during the draft that teams could talk to players. After the lockout was back on, Ponder went down to a Kinkos to make copies of it to give to the other rookies and some of the vets who didn't have one.

At Kinkos they told him ok, come back in an hour and we'll have them ready. To which Ponder wisely replied there's no way I'm letting this out of my sight, I'll stand here while you copy it.

i am secretly hoping that TJAX has a great year in seattle and burns it up for the rest of his carreer and becomes a multiple time probowler who makes the hall of fame as both a player and coach and that everyone in MN has to be confronted with his awesomeness forever because what they did to him and chilly the awesome family man in order to keep brett the wiener texter john edwards ii fakeorama jerk favre happy like getting those guys canned or demoted and bringing in randy i play when i want to but like to run over cops moss man it burns me up what jerks those guys turned out to be when they could have had it all and gone down as beloved superstars take it to the bank frank.

:goodposting: From "Milwaukee area."

Some stupid Packer fans just keep giving us material. They'd be so much easier to hate if they just all did stuff like this.

And he's not smoking, Griff. That was some flat out Old Milwaukee drivel right there. Or maybe some of the old standby paint thinner/ acetone cocktail.
