Week 8 Waiver Wire Targets (1 Viewer)

Trizzler

Now that the majority of Sunday's action is over, there are 2 players that immediately come to mind as waiver wire additions that could seriously propel fantasy teams in the 2nd half of the season.

I knew Ponder was better than McNabb, but I didn't expect him to have that heavy of an impact that quickly. Yes, his accuracy was a problem, but the talent is unquestionably It's pretty clear that the immediate benefactors of his success are the receivers, namely two in particular:

Visanthe Shiancoe (4/45/1, 8 targets)

Michael Jenkins (3/111/1, 8 targets)

Jenkins had most of his success on a 72 yard play, but Ponder was looking for both of these guys often. Shiancoe should be a serious add, since we already know he's capable of being a TE1 from two years ago. When you consider the remaining schedule for the Vikings, it's very generous in the passing department. Panthers next week, then they get the Packers, Raiders, and Falcons after the bye. Saints come to town in a critical week 15 matchup for fantasy purposes. I'll admit, I don't like to boldly make sleeper picks in the Shark Pool, but I have a very strong feeling about Shiancoe becoming a top ten TE down the stretch.

Thoughts on Lumpkin in TB or Moreno in Denver depending on McGahee's hand injury? Is Blount expected back in the next couple weeks?

Terrell Owens....After watching the Titans play today there is no doubt in my mind they will sign him after his workout on Tuesday.

Seems McGahee has a broken hand, so if Moreno was dropped he has to be an immediate add, with Lance Ball an option in deep leagues.

I'm not sure I'd give Moreno the edge. Ball was the RB the Broncos had on the field in overtime when they were setting up for the game-winning FG. I thought that was very telling. Fox doesn't seem to believe Moreno is a starter and I agree with him. Not sure Ball is either but I wouldn't be surprised if he got a chance depending on how long McGahee is out.

I don't like any of the RB scraps leftover this week.I own Wells and don't like the other options in AZ. They didn't have good showings last time Wells was out. None of their stat lines look any good. Granted they didn't start and might get a little better as starters. I would say the same about Lumpkin. Wish I could have gotten Murray, been high on him all year but didn't have room on my roster for bye reasons, and tried to get him last week and was beat to the punch. I'm prayin Hillis and Jacobs come back next week and I won't be lookin for RB help because there's nothin I can see worth rostering.

Roy Williams will be back on the milk carton for a month. You're more likely to spot a sasquatch at the swap meet than Roy back in the endzone anytime soon. I'd take a chance on Hester, Bennet, Sansenbacher, Knox, Davis, or Spaeth over Roy. But if you're in a 20 teamer with 5 flex spots, by all means, pull that trigger.

Didn't watch the game. Any reason why Harvin wasn't more involved/targeted?
As stated, he re-injured his ribs. Bad timing too, because IIRC, Ponder looked his way early for underneath passes. Could be PPR gold in the 2nd half if he could only stay on the field. In smaller redraft leagues, Michael Bush and Taiwan Jones should both be targets, assuming McFadden's injury is a problem past the bye.

Torain if he was dropped and you want a ticket to the circus...

Agree on Shaun Hill if Stafford is dinged pretty good

Alfonso Smith and Hyphen

Moreno if out there

Has there been any news on McFadden? He came back to the sideline in uniform, but didn't go back in I believe...what was the injury?

No news. My opinion is they kept him out knowing they had a bye coming up...my guess is he wil b good to go after the bye

Pierre Thomas is out there in our league. While the situation seems as bad as Shanahan I believe the get STL next week so I might look there being a Frlix/Beanie owner.

Like the Tanner call too. It's going to be interesting what occurs once Felix is healthy. Regardless, Tanner should be the #2 behind Murray until he does. Choice can't make anyone miss, and he's put the ball on the turf the past two games.

I like the Taiwan call too. DMC's foot sprain doesn't sound serious though. Hopefully, he'll be a go once the bye is over.

One guy that hasn't been mentioned is Chad Spann. He was signed to the Bucs PS this past week, and actually practiced with the team in London. Even though Blount will probably be back after the bye, Lumpkin has been very mediocre. I think Spann could surprise in a COP / 3rd down role.

Can we keep this quiet so I can hopefully get him this week, if any of the mainstream writers talks about him...its over. One of my leagues uses reverse standings WW and I have been getting absolutely depleted while still maintaining first place luckily, cannot get access to anyone lol.

Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press guesses that Matthew Stafford (knee, ankle) will play in Week 8 against the Broncos. This is the feeling we get as well. Birkett is just speculating, but the injuries for now appear to be minor. Look for Stafford to be limited in practice this week and perhaps to be listed as questionable on next Friday's injury report. The Lions visit Denver in a 4:05 ET game in Week 8.

How about Bey Bey Thomas? He was definitely getting targets and was the WR1 when he was in there. As bad as Tebow looked passing early on, it couldn't get much worse and Bey Bey still got a TD even in that weak throwing performance.

Thanks, Good info.

Spann, Ivory, Royster in very deep leagues where you have to be proactive perhaps. Lance Ball and Tanner a little more obvious both one more injury away from STARTING. Another step up would be Ringer, Taiwan Jones, and Helu. I'd also keep an eye on Gerhart as AP got dinged up too. Redman perhaps until we hear more on the Steelers situation.

Too early to read the Cards depth chart yet but for week 8 Smith and Hyphen are low flex plays at best.

Moreno is pretty obvious but Ball is a sneaky option and Carter of course but we'll see on Addai.

Not sure what to make of the TB situation yet as Blount is probably back but Lumpkin showed nothing so he could get jumped.

Does it matter at this point? Romo, Stafford, CJ2K, Ingram, Andre Johnson, Harvin.... I think I am going to mosey on over to the venting thread :bang:

Roy Williams if he was dropped.
not even if he was the last WR on earth
I mean...in that scenario you would kind of have to...no?
I would rather take a zero. No expectations to get shattered....I scooped Antonio Brown with Hines possibly out a while.
I am also thinking about picking up Brown with Roddy out Week 8 I need another WR to fill his slot. NE pass defense is pretty bad and with Ward possibly being out for a while he might have another big week. Only thing is that I have Mike Wallace so I wonder if putting in two WR from PIT is the smart play or not.

I picked this kid up in three leagues last week when he got signed by TB. I guess around 6 teams were looking at him. I read a story about him playing in the preseason. He pulled a hamstring when he was on the Colts (a grade 3 tear) and played through it. Trainers couldn't even figure out how he was able to do it, said he was "an anomaly". I have been following him ever since I watched his highlight reel (watch it, it's ridiculous). Unbelievable balance and strength. College coach said he was the strongest pound for pound player he has ever coached. Not sure why he wasn't drafted, seems to have all the tools and is actually a little bigger than i thought he was. Dynasty leaguers need to pick him up is you have the space.

For PPR leagues, I am looking at Bess and/or Breaston for PPR leagues. May not be the #1 guys on their teams, but could continue to catch several passes and a TD would be a bonus.
