Santana Moss - Out 5-7 weeks (1 Viewer)

From Shanahan's presser today, Santana Moss will be out 5-7 weeks after having surgery. They placed 3 pins in his hand.

For Moss owners out there, are you hanging on to him for a possible playoff run, or are you cutting him and taking your chances elsewhere with another receiver? Personally, he's been my #2 receiver this year behind Vincent Jackson, and honestly he's been much more consistent than even Jackson. I hate to let him go, but I think with him being out for that long, it's probably worth taking a shot on someone like Michael Jenkins off the waiver wire.

 
I probably will just drop him in both of my leagues. Don't think he's worth keeping on my bench for possibly 7 weeks.

Me too. We reduced our roster size from 18 to 17 players this season and we have no IR. I only have 2 WRs so I am definitely dropping him.
 
Moss: 5-7 weeks

Trent Williams: 2-3 weeks

Hightower: Season

Atogwe: 1-2 more weeks at least

Cooley: Month at least

Lichtensteiger (starting LG): Season

Fletcher: Hammy, unsure

Jenkins: Out for season before it even started

Beck not looking too great, will be playing behind a shuffled OL all season, WR's sucked BEFORE Moss got hurt, etc.

This team could be back in contention for a top-5 pick.

I'd love to snag Griffin. Perfect fit in this scheme.

I dropped Moss for Gaffney in the one league I have him. As another poster mentioned, he'd been getting good targets - even with Moss in the lineup. He was a solid addition (especially in PPR) before this injury. His style of play seems well-suited to fit into Moss's role. Gaffney and Davis seems to be the "bumps" with this injury.Do the Redskins even have a deep WR threat? Admittedly, I'm not that up on the team. Maybe some young fast guy who could be given a chance to shine?

Armstrong is said to be ready to get back on the field. If there is one, it's him.

Armstrong is said to be ready to get back on the field. If there is one, it's him.

He was on the field against the Panthers, just didn't look that great. He hasn't played up to what he showed last year, yet.Niles Paul is a dark horse to take a significant role by the end of the year. Shanahan loves him, and his blocking ability means he will be on the field all the time, once they trust him to run the entire route tree. As it is, Stallworth was inactive in favor of Terrence Austin/Paul/Hankerson this week, and I expect that to continue.

Skins fan here, but I could be wrong. I think Gaffney would be the pickup, because Beck isn't going to be launching many deep throws. Even if he could do it consistently, he wouldn't be able to with this shuffled-up OL. Beck loves throwing it to Gaffney over the middle, though. He'll be a great guy in PPR leagues, even if he goes 7-for-65. That's startable. Austin is another dark horse candidate to emerge as the season wears on and the losses pile up, because they've got a real chemistry.
 
Im holding for now, but if he's still not supposed to be back until say week 14 a few weeks from now and he makes the most sense to drop, I'll drop him.

 
From what I could watch online, Fred Davis was blocking for a large part of the game. Hoping things will open up for him more and he gets involved in the offense earlier than the fourth quarter.

 
This is bad news as an owner of Moss since I drafted RB heavy. I'm going to have to drop him since I only have 16 slots.

Redskins started out strong this year, tough break (no pun intended) for them.

I'm assuming this is the NSFW screenshots from the game? We were watching the game on Sunday and the first time they showed it, it was funny. Then, the cameraman panned down to get a better shot. The next play, they went right back to him.Keep in mind, this was at a time when there was no discussion going on about Gaffney at all, and no reason to be showing him. It was pretty damn funny.

Sorry...I suppose in some settings it's NSFW. Fully clothed NSFW, but still. And yes. I live out of state, so I can't keep up with Skin's games as much as I like, but I heard about this on a morning radio show today. All I can say is that I feel inadequate. Of course those pictures would make a horse feel inadequate.

2. not gonna get too crazy about picking up Gaffney.....sometimes when things like this happen we just assume the next guy gets a automatic bump, but it doesn't always turn out that way (see Nate Washington)....I would expect a small bump for Gaffney, but nothing like the one in his pants....

3. Shanny is a good coach.....Skins will stay competitive.....

I think this will be my plan as well. I have a few owners in my league who I think may give him a look, but I'm hopeful that I can grab him in about 3-4 weeks, or once I have a playoff spot locked up and start trimming down my roster a little bit. I was able to make a similar move with Pierre Thomas a few years ago that ended up winning me the league (I replaced him with someone who ended up starting for me, and when I picked him back up, he produced quite well)

Well we're in Week 8. Let's say we're right in the middle of 5-7 week recovery time. I know I wouldn't have the balls to start Moss in a Week 14 matchup. To me he's a definite drop. That's the Fred Davis show now, anyway.

He hasn't eclipsed 74 yards receiving in a game and has two touchdowns. His preseason value was based on the chemistry he had with Grossman last year and Beck is now the starter. I see no reason to keep him even if it was guaranteed he's returning in four weeks.

He was looking good with Beck. Two catches in the short time last week, and two catches very early in the game this week before he got hurt. With that said, I put in a waiver claim to get Roy Helu (probably as trade bait in a week or two if he takes off). If I don't get him, I'll probably hold on to Santana.
 
According to Washington Post's Rick Maese, Moss told him he expects to miss 3-6 weeks....big difference if he can come back week 10-11 opposed to week 13-14

 
Yeah, I dropped him yesterday for a waiver wire pickup, but decided to get him back when I read the 3-6 week thing. If I need to make a pickup, he will be the first person I cut, but if I am able, I will try my best to hang on for a little while.

 
someone foolishly dropped santana moss in my league, i'm hoping to scoop him up off of waivers. very tasty matchups weeks 15 and 16; my secret weapon for my playoff run.

No way he is back in 3 weeks catching passes after having surgery on a broken hand. 6-8 weeks for broken bones, maybe 5. If it was a fractured finger it would be different. Either way, too valuable of a roster spot for me with all the RB injuries to wait around for WR3 production.
 
It may be instructive to look at Gaffney's per game statistics:

1 WAS NYG 3 54

2 WAS ARI 5 62

3 WAS DAL 5 60

4 WAS STL 4 62

6 WAS PHI 2 55

7 WAS CAR 4 68

What strikes me here is that Gaffney is extremely consistent. Before Moss, he had 3-5 catches per game and always hovered around 60 yards receiving. Even before Moss, as a second or third receiver, this is probably serviceable in PPR leagues, though you are taking a big chance when TDs must be scored to get points.

Now, let's just assume that Gaffney gets 2 more catches per game with Moss and Cooley both out. That's probably not crazy, right? Someone has to get Moss' catches, and they won't ALL go to Armstrong, Paul, Austin, Davis, etc. And let's say he gets 15 yards per catch, which is reasonable given his current numbers. That would make it likely for him to get 5-7 catches per game for 90 yards, and occassionally he could get you a TD or a 100 yard bonus. I think as a second receiver in a PPR league this is more than acceptable.

What do you think?

He was a waste of a draft pick for me. I didn't get him high, but high enough that he didn't "earn" it this year.

If dropping him puts another WR on the WW, I'm going that route. I'm not holding onto him for 3 for 39 yards in week 15. Skip that.
