Why you hate Arian Foster. (1 Viewer)

In his 7 healthy games, in which he played all 4 quarters he is now averaging the following:

164 total yds and 1+TD a game. ("projection" over a full season equates to 2600yds and 17-18tds)

This, while being spelled in parts/most of the 4th quarter of blowouts, dampening his numbers.

The Houston O-Line is elite.. No doubt. But for those who doubted Foster's ability, called him "overrated" or "a product of the system", has his ability to embarrass Polamalu, Talib and the countless other safeties, LBs, and Corners in the receiving game (for another year) changed your mind?

If not, why the hate?

:goodposting: My thoughts exactly.

Nope, still love him. Best FA find I have had in years.

FF aside, he is fun to watch. A lot of people have said he is not that talented or a product of the system but I disagree. I think a lot of people just have a bias against him because they never could convince themselves that he was that good because he went undrafted and was unknown and then it was too late.

Sometimes when things like that happen, people spend their energy later trying to correct their mistakes they made earlier.

I don't "hate" him. I think he's in a system that works great with his skill set. I don't think he has the physical talent of a Peterson or Rice, but he is playing extremely well and his owners should be glad to have him.

How can you hate Arian Foster? He is an undrafted FA that turned into one of the best if not the very best RB in the game almost over night. Sorry, I'm a fan of cinderlla stories and Foster's is a good one.

I agree he is not as physically gifted as Peterson, or as agile as Rice... But I believe he possesses better vision than both players... In conjunction with a still elite skill set for a RB, he is a top 3 talent in my eyes.

I certainly dont hate him, but I think I've been one of the biggest backers of tempering my enthusiasm, at least for dynasty purposes. I honestly think he is the clear no.1 fantasy back for redraft and would probably take him #1 next year. One thing I will concede is that I underrated his receiving ability and that is something he has been dominant on this year. But I will say this again, he is in the Matt Forte talent range for me, I actually would give the edge to Forte. Ben Tate - Carries: 122 Yards:686 YPC:5.6 TDs:3Arian Foster - Carries:171 Yards:740 YPC:4.3 TDs:6-Even in the first two games when Foster was out and Tate got over 20 carries his YPC was 4.7(Better than Foster)-The touchdown discrepancy is because Tate only got goaline carries when foster was out. Tate had one goaline TD the others have been from over ten (11, 27) . The fact of the matter is the holes these guys are running through are enormous, I dont even understand it really. Nobody is saying Foster is a bad player, they are saying the numbers hes putting up are making him a bit overrated.

:goodposting: :goodposting: Bingo!

I've posted somewhere before that the only trait you could argue for Foster having the top spot is vision. But he is top 10 in literally every other category. How many other guys have near elite speed, power, patience, pass-catching ability, blocking, one-cut juke moves, and is a hard worker, good teammate, and never a question he will play hard and hurt?

The only clearly better all around back is ADP. Foster is #3 at worst on talent mix alone.

Just because I think he's in the perfect situation for his style and that he's not one of the top RBs in the league talent wise doesn't mean I hate him. Would I take him on my fantasy team? In a heartbeat.

This is skewed IMO. Tate is getting play vs. the patsies. In tough matchups, it's all Foster. It is the system - great for RB's. Tate and Ward look good running behind that O-line. But Foster's ability to cut is among the best I've ever seen, especially for his size. He makes DB's look silly - they don't even get a hand on him. The 2 moves he made on that TD yesterday were SPECIAL. System or not - he's a special player with elite talents. I went against him yesterday, and knew it was just a matter of time before he broke one. Would have been over 100 rushing too if it weren't for penalties. Many championship teams this year will have Foster on the roster.

Let's not bring up Tate into this again, there's separate thread for that.

Anyway, just ask yourselves, if the draft was today, would you draft Foster or Peterson? I'd draft Foster without hesitation.

Like many have mentioned, the hate comes from the non-Foster owners.

Because I traded him for a 2nd rd rookie pick right after picking him off the WW.

Edited: I can't seem to find where I traded Foster. I must have been thinking of someone else. However, I did see where he was added and dropped three times in one league and twice in another. I'm pretty sure most picked him off the WW early on in dynasty leagues.

In dynasty or redraft? In redraft its no question hes #1. He will be the #1 Fantasy football RB for as long as hes featured in Houston. done deal.

Donald Brown could get 1600+ yds behind that line.

Since returning to health in Week 4:

v PIT - TD Arian Foster rushed up the middle for 42 yard gain

v OAK - Matt Schaub passed to Arian Foster to the left for 60 yard gain

v TEN - TD Matt Schaub passed to Arian Foster to the left for 78 yard gain

v TB - TD Matt Schaub passed to Arian Foster to the left for 78 yard gain

3 of his 4 biggest plays this season came in the passing game. The o-line is definitely not the "only" reason Foster is elite.

I refuse to believe people really believe its all on the o-line. His longest play of the day was a short pass that HE took 70+ yards making two moves in the open field.Donald Brown... really?

Beat me to it. If it's such a rushing system, why does Foster have the 3rd most receiving yards for RB's even though he's only played in basically 7 games?

Also, as an aside:

Foster is the #2 ranked RB in our non-ppr league (1pt/10yds rush/rec, 6pt td), behind McCoy

Peterson needs 14pts to pass him tonight.

While having missed 2 whole games and 3/4 of another.

I hate playing against him. I also hate the fact that next year I will draft him and he will then have his down year!

Are you being facecious here?I don't know how people can keep saying this is a product of the system situation.

If you (ambiguous, not You specifically) were watching yesterday, you saw, in one play, what makes him a top RB in the NFL.

He took a handoff and had the vision to change his hole in mid-step, by shifting completely laterally, without losing speed, and then turned on very good speed around the corner and then, after a long gain, he dropped his shoulder and plowed over the DB.

That sentence I just wrote illustrates a complete back; the type of RB about 28 teams in the league would love to have. He is a complete package. Not as fast as some. Not as forceful as a few. But overall, does the entire spectrum of things better than everyone. The only other guy in the league that I think is right there with Foster is Lesean McCoy. That kid does it all too. Everyone else is all speed or all tough or catches well. But hardly anyone has his vision and almost no one does ALL these things.

Who did you end up drafting with the trade?
I looked and I can't find where I traded Foster. I must have been thinking of someone else. However, I did see where Foster was dropped about 3 times in one league and twice in the other one I checked. I'm pretty sure he was added and dropped a lot early on in dynasty leagues.

Talent over situation. But everyone has there own philosophy on dynasty so to each his own. Some people value long term more than the next two years and vise versa. 1. Adrian Peterson2. Ray Rice3. Darren McFadden4. Lesean McCoy5. Arian Foster...although he may be moving up to 4 very quickly...Not sure McFadden will ever be able to put it all together consistently

Shady
McCoy is great but I'd take Foster over him in a heartbeat.
I don't blame you. But 2 years is a big difference in age, for RBs. 23 year olds with track records like McCoy don't happen often - LT and AP come to mind.
Ya, the youth factor is a positive for McCoy, but it;s not like Foster was being used an abused previous to last season.his tires are still very fresh.

.... and one more reason to love him. HE'S GONNA BE RUNNING THE BALL 25+ TIMES A GAME for suuuuuuuuuuuuuuure now.

I am in awe of his highlights on NFL Redzone. He hits full stride from scrimmage.

I owned him last year and likely would've passed on him this year anyway if I had a 1-3 pick. Arian Foster is FF auto-pilot.

I had the #1 pick in my $$$$ league... Foster was always going to be my pick, but I hesitated slightly only because Ive never been an owner of Peterson, and really wanted to have that feeling. But I'm glad I went with my gut. Foster has carried me since week 4.

I love Foster but I do not think under any circumstance that the loss of Schaub helps him. Without the threat of the pass (Leinart should not scare any defense) I have to think other teams will key on the run. Now, in the passing game which Foster clearly excels at as well, I would not be at all shocked for the not so strong armed Leinart to dump it off to him often.

You think teams haven't already been doing this? I'm looking forward to all the check downs.

The loss of Schaub is most definitely not a good thing for Foster owners. Unless Lienart completely re-invents himself in this system (which I think is actually possible). Either way, Foster is still a stud but Schaub extended drives.

Why didn't you list the receiving stats instead of mentioning Foster's receiving skills in passing? Foster 31-445-2Tate 5-40-0A RB averaging over 14 yards a catch on that many catches (as opposed to a small number to where one long catch could inflate the YPC because of the low number of catches) is insane. As for me, even though I didn't get Foster on any team this year (his hurt hammy scared me a bit), I don't hate him. He helped me win a championship last year, so he will always have a place in my Fantasy Hall of Fame.

What kind of numbers is Tate putting up when given a chance? Similar to Foster, which suggests the system certainly has something to do with it. As for making Talib look like a fool...everyone has done that this year. He sucks.

This is the exact response I was looking for. The "hate".

What hate? I simply suggested that with Tate when playing in the same system that he puts up comparable numbers. My comment "He sucks" was directed at Talib, not Foster.
