Fred Davis Suspended (1 Viewer)

CBS:

Davis' season could be over Fred Davis, TE WASNews: Washington TE Fred Davis and OT Trent Williams were suspended by the NFL for four games for violating the league's substance abuse policy, according to SI.com Sunday. Davis started against the Jets Week 13 and played well in what could be his last game of the season. Davis led the Redskins in receiving as he caught six passes from QB Rex Grossman for 99 yards. He did not score in the game and was targeted a game-high 13 times.Analysis: There have been multiple reports confirming that Davis will be suspended four games by the NFL. If that is truly the case, that will put him out through the end of the regular season. Seeing as the Redskins are an extreme long shot at making the playoffs, Davis' season could be over. Fantasy owners will want to pay close attention to this situation heading into Week 14 against New England. An active Davis would be a solid low-end No. 1 or high-end No. 2 Fantasy TE for the game. That said, if Davis gets suspended, he can be dropped in most Fantasy leagues across the board.

Idiots, but it makes the quest for RG3 that much easier.

My question is how does this effect the possible re-signing of Davis in a contract year?

This is a tricky care because this happened during the lock out. It will be a long appeal I think because there is alot of legal issues involved

I have a feeling some people's FF playoff chances just went up in smoke.
Davis was just as likely to get 2 pts as 10. Not that huge of a deal if he's out for the FF playoffs. Would be nice to know his status to make the right roster moves though.

So is he for sure done for the rest of the season or can he still appeal this?
The Redskins season is done. The team needs to tell him that they'll extend his contract next year if he just takes his suspension now. This would allow him to play week 1 next year.

While the suspension shows that Davis was boneheaded in his persistence to smoke weed, I think they need to take the risk and re-sign him. He is a playmaker on a team that desperately lacks playmakers.

I don't know if theyre allowed to do that. Union rules are complex, and the unwritten ones are important too. Has anybody NOT gone through an appeals process as far as it would go?

He's the 6th TE in my league so I have no idea what you're talking about
Because he's a TE and scores less points than other positions the difference in him and whatever backup you have or ww pickup you make matters less. Whatever though. If you think you're doomed, enjoy it.

This makes the most sense from the Redskins' perspective but I would hope the NFLPA would be strongly wanting to appeal this one. Being suspended for drugs taken while the lockout was in place is a bit sketchy.

This is a special situation.11 players failed the drug tests after the lockout ended. The players thought there was a 30 day grace period after the lockout for drug tests but there wasnt. This was a first offense for 9 of the players so they received no discipline. The other two players (Williams & Davis) had multiple offenses. Both would have been subject to a year long suspension. The NFL & NFLPA reached a settlement agreement to reduce the suspensions down to four games. If they appeal, they risk getting the one year suspension. Williams has accepted his four games. No word on Davis yet.

:goodposting: Didn't know that.

Really ?Did you check Gronkowski, Graham, Tony G, Witten, Gates, Davis & Finley avg compared to the "backup TEs" ?

In all my leagues where TE's get 1.5PPRWe have 5 TE's in the top 30 overall (Davis being 30)

6 RB's in the top 30 and 7 WR's.

Not all leagues are created equal, but losing a top player at any position is not easily replaced by someone on the WW.

People like Fasano, Celek, and Scheffler are available in my 12 team with a TE an W/T slot and haven't been much different from Davis recently. Losing any starter is going to hurt if you don't have adequate backup. I'd rather lose a TE than most other positions though.

Guess it is what you consider recently. The last 2 weeks Davis has outscored Fasano by 7.5, Celek by 6.5 and Schleffler by 11.5 in a 1 ppr and 1 per 10.If you go back to week 5 he outscored Fasano by 5.4, Celek by 2 and Schleffler 6.1.For those looking for someone on the wire, where are you going?I am thinking Fasano may be the best off my wire. Since week 6 when Matt Moore became the starter (throwing out the week that Henne got hurt)Fasano has averaged 7.62 points. Also, since the Dolphins have suddenly become passable as an NFL team he has weeks of 17,9,8,5,10. Schedule looks favorable with Eagles, Bills PAts. I am not positive what those teams do against the TE but their pass Def are not very good in general.

Gresham is available in my league. I'm thinking Gresham over Fasano. Fasano would be next, though.

Food for thought:

Is it really substance abuse if you smoke the optimal amount and give it all the respect it deserves?

In a PPR league with 1 flex position (RB/WR/TE). I've been starting Jimmy Graham and Fred Davis and been killing it. Fortunately I still have Graham for the TE slot. So that's where I'm going

Points allowed to opposing TE for those of us who need replacements for the next 3 weeks.

Personally, I'm targetting Keller in in the one league he's available in, Gresham and Fasano in the others.

Is this a done deal, at least on paper? No appeal, no nothing, he's done right, any further chance he plays this week have gone up in smoke? Do owners necessarily have to burn a WW pick to replace him?

Done. It was sort of pre-appealed. The players thought they would have 30 days before drug testing started after the lockout. 11 players were tagged, 9 of them first offenses, 2 of them 2nd offenses. under an agreement between the NFL and the players union, the 9 had their 4 game suspensions waived, the 2 had their year long suspensions reduced to 4 games, no appeals allowed. Fred Davis is done for the season.

Do the Redskins have a TE that can replace Davis? (not Cooley who is on IR IIRC)
:blackdot:
The next guy up is Logan Paulsen, who can catch the ball but obviously he is not a playmaker like Cooley or Davis. They also tried Mike Sellers at TE earlier this year, who has been an effective pass catcher in the past. I can see them working him in at TE. But Paulsen is probably the starter now, I guess.

The Redskins are one crummy team always finding new ways to get worse. With Rex Grossman as the starting QB, this season did not look promising. Davis was a bright spot on the field that must not be very bright off the field.

Smoking weed is not a terrible crime. However, it is still illegal and is part of the NFL substance abuse policy.

Bump Moss next week vs NE?
Ok, so who benefits?Helu, or Moss, or Gaffney, or Armstrong or all of the above? I have been holding back starting Helu because of the horror of Shanahans past, but with NE's pass defense issues (starting 2 Wrs now at DB?) this is almost looking too good for Helu with the short passing game.
