Game Thread W14 - Houston v Cincinnati (1 Viewer)

Texans are in sore need of a kick returner. I don't think McMannis has gotten a kick off past the 15 in his last 4 or 5 tries.

Both teams start with a three and out. Yates had Jacoby Jones deep but he didn't catch it. Threw next away and then a Foster run. Bengals told announcers they are expecting Foster runs on third downs.

Bengals had a short screen to AJ Green, an incompetion to Gresham, and Dalton had pressure and had to throw it away on third down.

Wow, the Bengals stadium looks really empty for a game between two potential playoff teams.

Foster picks up a first down on two carries.

Tate gets a huge hole on the next carry and takes it 44 yards, his career longest.

On third down, Dalton gets blitzed and makes a nice back shoulder throw that Jerome Simpson comes down with for a 20+ yard first down.

Next play, Benson gets through a nice hole and takes it to the 1 yard line. Jonathan Joseph took a bad angle on that.

False start moves the ball back to the 6. Run and pass go nowhere. Third down pass to Caldwell nearly picked by Joseph. Bengals kick a FG to make it 3-3.

Yates has plenty of time on third down but overthrows Jacoby Jones, interception by Reggie Nelson. Cinci with the ball on the Houston 25. JJ Watt brings down Scott in the backfield for a four yard loss.

Texans sniff out a screen to Gresham and Dalton throws it away. Dalton is getting pressured on most of his drop backs. Nugent hits another FG to go up 6-3.

McManis fumbles the kickoff return (his second in 3 games). Texans recover, start the drive on their 10 yard line.

Safety heads up to the line to bring 8 in the box, stuffs Tate for a 3 yard loss.

Edit to add: Most of Yates throws have been deep, so Houston is trying to keep the safeties honest at least.

Texans get in the red zone with two Foster runs and a Kevin Walter catch right at the marker. Tate shows good balance and dives for a first down along the sideline. 1st and goal inside the two, Tate gets the first crack and hit 2 yard behind the line and fumbles. Bengals recover.

Not a good way to get goal line touches, Tate.

Vickers should have gotten a personal foul for shoving Pacman away from the scrum, but refs missed it.

Dalton's getting a lot of pressure, Houston blitzing a lot. Dalton doing a good job of handling the pressure, hits Gresham deep.

Bengals RG Bobby Williams hurt. Bengals moving the ball pretty well, Benson is finding some running room.

Two Bengals take aways the story of the game so far. Tate fumble at 1st down on the goal line a potential 14 points swing after Bengals drive the field.

tate getting gl carries and this workload does not bode well for foster's prospects as a top tier draft pick next yr. i think this bumps him below rice, mccoy and peterson.

That shove of Pacman by Vickers that I mentioned earlier? Tweet from Ross Tucker says that Vickers told Kubiak he shoved him because Pacman spit in his face.

If I had to bet my house one way or the other, I imagine Tate won't be seeing goal line carries after that fumble.

Texans in the two minute drill. Yates sacked and then gets pressure on next play, just manages to throw it away near a receiver to a void a loss. Screen to Foster, 4th down at the 30.

Bad decision making by Dalton. 11 seconds left and no timeouts, he throws to the middle of the field incomplete. If it had been complete, Gresham would have had a hard time getting to sideline to stop the clock.

Instead, clock stops on incompletion and Nugent hits a 49 yard FG.

I really like the Bengals. Granted, they don't have much of a chance if they make the playoffs, but they're average or slightly abovein every single area and extremely consistent. They're certainly not outstanding anywhere, but it's definitely valuable to have no obvious holes, either.

Thanks for keeping us up to date, Greg. I was planning on this being my primary game this morning, but it's blacked out on DirecTV.

Ack, ironic you said that as I had to spend some time watching the game from the kitchen while cooking.Houston goes for it on 4th down, Yates sacked and fumbles, was turning over on downs anyway.

Green really does look good. He has got to be amongst the best in the league at going up for a ball. Fitzgerald might have as good or better hands, but Green can probably outreach him.

Deep incompletion to Green, but still makes you go wow. Joseph was in the better position to make the catch, and Green goes up overtop of him to not only stop a likely interception, but almost makes the catch.

Screen pass to Foster. Fumble recovered by the Bengals, who run it upfield and fumble it back to Houston on the 1 yard line. Kubiak challenging whether it was a catch. This could be a close one. Seeing it live I didn't think he caught it. Seeing the replay, I think the call on the field of a catch will stand.

Play action in his end zone, Yates hits Walter to get the ball back up to the 21. Tate gets a carry then, not much room to run, but picks up a couple. Bengals playing the run fairly well today.

Tate's gotten three four straight plays. Rare reception by him for a first down, then Yates gets pressured on the next play. Steps up fine but doesn't get it away and is sacked.

Jacoby Jones gets wide open for a first down. Then another little 5 yard dump off to Tate, who picks up about three more before getting gang tackled. Bengals stack the line on 3rd and 2, Texans bootleg and dump off to Tate for the first down.

Tate's been in continuously this drive.

Good blocking by Houston, Tate goes outside and picks up 10 with Vickers leading the way.

Bootleg, defensive end wasn't fooled and Yates threw it away at his receiver's feet.

Foster back in and gets met at the line. 3rd and 9 play, empty backfield. Yates throws short incomplete. Wouldn't have been a first down even if caught.
