Freddie Freeman dislocated kneecap. Expected to be ready by opening day Franklin Gutierrez injured his pectoral on his throwing side. He'll probably be out until May.

Kind of a spring recap of what's going on as of now...homers please quote and correct if any of these are incorrect. -Stephen Drew probably won't be ready for Opening Day, still has soreness in his ankle -Tim Hudson out til late April after back surgery, but his recovery has gone as smooth as possible -Brian Roberts still not ready to play after multiple concussions -Carl Crawford likely to open the season on the DL but has begun swinging a bat again this week -Grady Sizemore is not to be counted upon. The Indians CF job may be snakebitten, because Michael Brantley left the game with a hammy strain yesterday -Salvador Perez out a few months after knee surgery -Kendrys Morales' rehab is going well THIS year. Still almost two years removed from playing, but all signs have been positive this spring. Should get into a MLB spring game in the next day -Logan Morrison knee sweeling isn't going away -Giancarlo Mike Stanton had a sore wrist after HBP and now has knee soreness but should be fine -Corey Hart had knee scoped, but ahead of schedule on recovery and should be back by opening day -Scott Baker having issues, don't recall exactly what I read but I believe he's had arm problems this week -David Wright has tear in a rib muscle. Took anti-inflammatory and has rested, says he'll be ready opening day but I don't think so -Ryan Howard had a setback in his achilles recovery and had his timetable pushed back to around early June -Chase Utley won't be ready for opening day with his chronic knee problems. Hasn't played this spring, and no real timetable for a return -AJ Burnett broke his face (eye) on a bunt attempt and is probably out til May -Carlos Quentin had his knee scoped and is out 4-6 weeks -Freddy Sanchez still not fully recovered from shoulder injury and unlikely to be ready to play the field by Opening Day -Franklin Gutierrez will miss about the first month of the season -Chris Carpenter might not be ready for Opening Day with a torn disk in his neck, but has thrown a couple bullpen sessions without incident -Adam LaRoche injured his ankle in addition to coming back from shoulder surgery and will miss another week or so -Mike Morse still dealing with lat strain from 2 weeks ago, but not expected to be major issue -Chien Ming Wang will miss the early part of the season with a pulled hammy Guys like Johan, Wainwright, Braden, Dice-K, De La Rosa, Josh Johnson, Morton, Blackburn are all at various stages in their rehab. Wainwright/Johnson/Johan have had the most positive news in that order surrounding their returns.

 Nice work. Here's some Brewer updates: Hart said he hopes to play in games on the minor league side by this weekend. He'll get a larger number of at bats but by doing so, can still get a back dated DL stint if he plays by Monday. Still up in the air for opening day. Shaun Marcum had some shoulder inflammation coming into camp. His next step is getting into a game but there's a chance he could miss a start or two once the season rolls around. They want about 80 pitches out of him if he can. If there's a setback, Marco Estrada should be stretched out enough to fill in. Both situations are day to day according to Roenicke. Everyone else is relatively healthy at this point.

Thought I heard mumbles about that last year too.
I find your belief system.........fascinating.

but there are people in life, people you know in your own personal life Joe that just always seem to have a cloud over them. I try to distance myself form those folks as much as possible and I bet you do to.

He certainly didn't look like Brooks Robinson out there. It was a bad hop, no doubt, but he was doing some weird side turn to grab the ball.

Yes I did. That was a bad hop - but please tell me you are not having him fit for a gold glove. Dude is a butcher in the field.

Any word out of KC who is going to be the man? I'd like to pounce on Herrera early if there is a shot of him getting it.

This is the correct answer - I think they will go with Broxton...but I think Holland is the better option. I think Herrera is better than eithe rof them but won't get a chance to prove it until 2013.

According to a major league source, the injury sustained by Andrew Bailey is believed to involve the UCL (ulnar collateral ligament) in the pitcher's thumb. A UCL tear is commonly referred to as a "Skier's Thumb," as the injury can be incurred if a pole catches in snow and forces a thumb backwards away from the other fingers. The injury results from a physical trauma, in this case, likely a collision that Bailey had in an exhibition game on March 21. According to Dr. Bruce Leslie of Newton Wellesley Orthopediac Associates, there are three grades for a UCL injury. A Grade 1 does not need surgery and includes three weeks of immobility. A Grade 2 sometimes does not require surgery, but often ends up needing a procedure after the initial treatment isn't effective. A Grade 3, which does include surgery, has the patient coming back anywhere from 2-3 months, with a cast needed between 4-6 weeks. "At this point in the season, the best course of action [if it is a Grade 2 or 3 tear] is absolutely to go ahead and get the surgery done, hope he recovers in a reasonable timeframe and hopefully get him back by the end of the year," said Dr. Christopher Geary, the chief of sports medicine at Tufts Medical Center. Mets closer Francisco Rodriguez was sidelined by a UCL injury in August, 2010, missing the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery. Red Sox catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia also experienced the ailment, and subsequent procedure, leading into the offseason following the '10 season. ďWe think he suffered when he was in a collision at Bradenton when he covered first and collided with Alex Presley and he fell," Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington told reporters Tuesday afternoon in Washington, D.C. "At the time he didnít think anything of it but then started to experience some soreness shortly after that and then went back and looked at the video and he definitely landed on his thumb so heís never had any thumb soreness before that so we donít know for sure but it seems possible thatís what did it. Anytime you have more of an acute injury, we have to get to the bottom of how bad it is and whether it can be managed conservatively or not."
