Posted: 12:14 pm April 08, 2012 Playoff schedule released, Pens-Flyers drop puck first on Wednesday Save the best for last? Not the NHL, not in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The league released the schedule for all the series on Sunday and the first to get started will be the 4/5 matchup in the East between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers. A lot of people, including me, expect this to be the best series in the postseason, with the animosity between the intrastate rivals, not to mention their talent. The 4/5 matchup in the West gets started in Nashville just about the same time, only 30 minutes later. If Philadelphia-Pittsburgh isn't going to be the best series of the first round, I'll take this series as my next guess. The only series that has to wait? The Panthers and Devils. It will be the last to get under way, not dropping the puck until Friday. Hey, when you've waited 12 years like the Panthers have, what's one more day? One cool feature this year is that every game is going to be broadcast nationally in the States. So you can watch whichever series you want from start to finish. This was perhaps the best addition to this year's playoff format. Kudos to the NHL and NBC for swinging that deal. Devils offense has looked good lately but I agree, no reason to trust Brodeur anymore. I would not be surprised if the Panthers won that series.

Devils last 10 games: Loss @ NYR: 2-4 Won @ OTT: 1-0 Loss vs TOR: 3-4 (SO) Loss @ PIT: 2-5 Won vs CHI: 2-1 (SO) Won vs TB: 6-4 Won @ CAR: 5-0 Won vs NYI: 3-1 Won @ DET: 2-1 Won vs OTT: 4-2 So, they've won their last 6 but 4 were at home and 3 were against some of the worst teams in the league. Probably only 2 impressive wins in that bunch (@ DET, and vs CHI) and one went to a shootout against a team missing their 2 best players (Keith and Toewvs) while the other was a close 2-1 win against a Detroit team who wasn't scoring against anybody at the time. They got a great matchup in the first round, but will likely be a big underdog to the Rangers, Bruins, or Penguins/Flyers in round 2.

Brodeur is definitely past his prime, but his playoff experience could be big for them. I don't see them getting to the Finals, but could win a couple of rounds.

No you don't, but you can't expect to shut out the other team every night. Just seems like there's too much focus being put on how great Quick is, when really, everyone should be asking, "where the hell are the goals going to come from?"

Couver is only averaging 2.5 goals/game over their last 10. Before the game against Edmonton, their PP was slumping too with only 2 goals in their last 35 opportunities. Kings are averaging 2.6 goals in their last 10. It certainly seems like their offense has picked up after they brought in Jeff Carter to give them more balance on their top 2 lines. In their 4 H2H matchups this year, Kings outscored them 8 to 7. It seems like Luongo plays great in the playoffs against teams that aren't Chicago or Boston so I assume he'll come through and keep this series tight.
