2012 Player Spotlight Series

One of Footballguys best assets is our message board community. The Shark Pool is, in our view, the best place on the internet to discuss, debate and analyze all things fantasy football. In what's become an annual tradition, the Player Spotlight series is a key part of the preseason efforts. As many of you know, we consider the Player Spotlight threads the permanent record for analyzing the fantasy prospects of the player in question. This year, we plan to publish more than 140 offensive spotlights covering the vast majority of expected skill position starters.

As always we will post a list of players to be discussed each week. Those threads will remain open for the entire preseason, and should be a central point to discuss expectations for the player in question. Importantly, analysis done in the first week of posting will be part of the permanent record in two ways. 1) At the end of the week, we will tally the projections into a consensus. 2) We will select a number of pull quotes from forum contributors who make a compelling statement or observation. Both the projections and pull quotes will be part of a published article on the main website.

Thread Topic: Mark Sanchez & Tim Tebow, QBs, New York Jets

[*]Detailed viewpoint from a Footballguys staff member

[*]Highlighted member commentary from the message board threads

[*]FBG Projections

[*]Consensus Member Projections

The Rules

In order for this thread to provide maximum value, we ask that you follow a few simple guidelines:

[*]Focus commentary on the player (or players) in question, and your expectations for said player (or players)

[*]Back up your expectations in whatever manner you deem appropriate; avoid posts that simply say "I hate him" or "He's the best"

[*]Avoid redundancies or  ... this should be about incremental analysis or debate

While not a requirement, we strongly encourage you to provide your own projections for the player (players):

Projections should include:

[*]For QBs: Attempts, Completions, Passing Yards, Passing TDs, Ints, Rush Attempts, Rush Yards, Rush TDs

[*]For RBs: Rushes, Rushing Yards, Rush TDs, Receptions, Receiving Yards, Receiving TDs

[*]For WRs & TEs: Receptions, Receiving Yards, Receiving TDs

Now let's get on with the conversation! We look forward to your contributions and let me offer a personal thanks in anticipation of the great debate and analysis.

With the Jets giving Sanchez an extension they seem extremely vested in him, but with the trade for Tebow I think we should expect some special packages, especially near the goal line, which would eat into anyone's production, but that is especially the case for Sanchez. Last year he threw for 8 TDs and rushed for 6 more inside the 5 yard line. He was already not a good FF play, but if he loses that production, he'll be totally worthless. The only value here is if Tebow completely takes over, which I really doubt happens. This is a great situation to avoid.

This is going to be fun.

Mark Sanchez (aka Oscar):

Many have described him as underrated. Maybe he is. In my dynasty league he ranked just below Ryan Fitzpatrick and above Roethlisberger, Freeman, and Vick. However, his game log tells the story of why fantasy players are so down on him. Only 3 games over 300 yards passing, and 8 under 200 yards passing. Roeth by comparison had five games over 300 yards passing, and only two games under 200 yards passing. So why did Sanchez outscore Roeth on the year? 6 rushing TDs to Beef's 0.

So really it's no wonder so many people view Sanchito as a lame duck.

Tim Tebow (aka Jesus Christ):

No other incidence has challenged my belief that God does not take sides in sports like the Bronco's season last year. Never have I seen such pathetic QB play translate into so many wins. It was truly something to behold. Therefore Tebow creates quite a buzz. He is proof of the will to succeed triumphing against all else (including the passing of time, perviously thought to be fairly undefeatable.) As a starter last season Tebow notched only two games above 200. His throws were often so off the mark the announcers could not tell who he was targeting. In short, he made Sanchez's QB rating and completion % gaudy by comparison. Yet he won, miraculously, over and over, beyond all belief.

So now these two are going to square off for top QB for one of the worst offensive teams in the league. This should be fun to watch.

Given the personality of the head coach and his well-documented clashes with Sanchez, I'd be shocked if Tebow didn't get the reins at some point.

Sanchez, I'll give about 180 completions for about 2200 yards and 10 Tds 7 Ints (with another 200 rushing and 1 TD on the ground) before he is pulled.

Tebow will get around 140 completions for about 1600 yards 9 TDs and 12 Ints, and let's give him 550 rushing and 5 rushing TDs.

IF you own either one, you are in trouble.

given the 10+ Million dollars in salary and bonus that sanchez earns, compared to the 1 Million dollars in salary that Tebow earns, I'd be shocked if Tebow gets more than 10 pass attempts all year. This isn't Kyle Orton. they aren't gonna pay this guy several hundred thousand dollars a game to ride the pine. The only way Tebow plays is if Sanchez gets hurt. Speaking of which, Plexico said Sanchez was hiding shoulder issues toward the end of last year (he was listed with neck injuries). would explain alot...
