Bad calls by the replacements today? (1 Viewer)

Ministry of Pain

I haven't seen much in the Miami-Houston game but other threads seem to show some bad calls. What has been an obvious miss by these guys? Do you think the regular referees would have caught the penalty or not called the same penalty?

Honestly so far I haven't really been able to notice a difference. Yes, there have been some bad calls but not really any more than usual.

Lots of games left today, but so far they've done significantly better than a typical weekend with the normal refs.

Only questionable call I've seen all day was the PI in the endzone on the Saints on 4th down, but they could have called roughing the passer on that play too so it was kind of wash anyway.

Locker got picked off. Ref who called the interception also then blew the whistle instead of letting McCourty get up and run.

I guess that's the rule in Pee Wee football where they got the ref from.

Obvious pass interference by the Patriots in the end zone against the Titans. Defender never saw the ball and clearly hit the receiver before the ball arrived.

Both TV and radio broadcasters were shocked that it wasn't called. Probably cost Tennessee a touchdown.

No other glaring mistakes so far.

Much improved thus far. Not getting the bogus PI calls. Despite all the scoring, games moving along quite well.

Overall I would say minor upgrade over the regular guys. Once they get more experience they will probably be a major upgrade unless they get unionized.

Patrick Chung PI on Jared Cook in the end zone. Should have been called IMO. Would have been called IMO
I only saw this one on a side TV with no volume, but on the replay it looked like a terrific no call on a play that normally draws a bogus PI call. From the live play it looked like Chung ran him over but on the replay it looked like Cook stumbled backwards after trying to adjust to the ball and there didn't really look like any contact at all. What were the announcers saying?

Fair enough FBG

I agree with fbg...normally would have been called and we would have been complaining about the way they always call these in favor of the recevier. The old guys were consist about this however.

Seems they have been doing an ok job.

Have not noticed anything worse than the normal refs despite RN's complaining.

Seems some forget all the complaining about the regular guys and think any call or non-call must be because its a pee wee football ref.

I do not think they have been TERRIBLE but they are clearly nervous. My biggest complaint thus far is their inability to get the ball mark/spot conistently correct. Ive seen it in the Eagles/Browns game, the Jets game, and others. I think forward progress has been a problem for them, but perhaps I am wrong.

Yes, I saw similar things in the Pats/Titans game. Had issues with forward progress and spotting the ball, which caused short delays. Nothing major, though.

Both TV and radio play-by-play teams commented on the Titans/Pats referees being overly conservative in spotting the ball.

Sanchez had an INT called on a tipped pass and replay clearly showed the defenders toe being on the line yet the officials upheld the call.

Also an awful spot on a 3rd down play in the same NYJ-BUF game.

The one that Rex challenged? He probably didnt get the first down but the spot was about three feet off.

Wow 49ers DB (#29) clearly had a fist full of James Jones jersey in the end zone not more than 6 feet from the ref

No call

been saying it for awhile now...it won't be the calls they make....it will be the calls they don't make...

Julio Jones second TD....COMPLETE pick play downfield....Douglas takes out legs (GOES LOW SO OBVIOUS) of DB covering Julio....no call....Julio waltzes into endzone....

SORRY...BUT PEOPLE WILL FOCUS ON THE CALLS THEY MAKE, ETC.....BUT IT WILL BE THE CALLS THEY DON'T MAKE THAT REALLY AFFECTS THE OUTCOME OF THESE GAMES.....

I think there's been a mistake on virtually every play between the Niners and Packers.

Good thing nobody is watching that game.

agree with you, but bad calls in general include no calls i think  on that note, that wasn't pass interference before that packers TD to set them up at the one unless uncatchable pass is no longer a criteria.

Exactly. 50/50 on whether or not it was a 1st down, but the spot was ridiculously short and even after review they didn't change it.

the packers game has been really bad guys have jumped offsides and ther was no call it is really bad out there right now bohans in this game take it to the call this game zebras bank

Most the Eagles Browns game. It was so one sided with the calls it was pathetic. Blantant missed calls, phantom calls, etc

Even in the first Vick took a shot to the face but nothing was called. It was horrid

This was the only blatant one I've seen missed today and no game changing bad calls.

I've been watching Redzone all day (same as the last couple years) and haven't noticed anything really big. Sure, missed call here, phantom call there, but not more than usual. Also haven't heard the commentators saying anything more than usual either. Seems to be about a wash. Definitely good enough for the NFL to not make any concessions to the refs.

I imagine we'll get some release later in the week from the NFL that shows these refs graded at or near the regular refs for week 1 last year.

Hey Greg, any chance the large margin of so many games also contributed? Mia/Hou, Atl/KC, NYJ/Buff, NE/TN, a lot of these games were not close in the 2nd half and a lot of times that is when the crucial calls are made late in games. Not many were hanging in the balance today.
