the matchups are good for SD. too bad SD sucks
:goodposting: but in the end, they are sitting on peoples waiver wires for a reason. Even the SD homers will tell you to stay away.
Chargers Defense is currently #6 in my primary money league. Chargers Defense is ranked #8 on Dodd's Top 200 Forward Defense list (Standard FBG Scoring)

Splitting their matchups to 3 good games and bad games:

3 GOOD GAMES: (OAK/TEN/KC): 4 INT / 5 SACK / 4 FUMREC / 1 DEF TD / 54 Points Allowed : AVG 16 Fantasy Points

3 BAD GAMES: (ATL/NO/DEN): 3 INT / 5 SACK / 2 FUMREC / 1 DEF TD / 83 Points Allowed : AVG 6.6 Fantasy Points

SUMMARY: Generally speaking SD has shown they can be a viable fantasy matchup-play

It might be a bit early to make moves but it's not too early to start the discussion for folks in deeper leagues. If you're in a 10 team league and have San Fran... sure... Carry on. However This discussion could prove valuable to some in deeper leagues who like to think ahead a bit.

Oh, definitely. I'm just not ready to make any firm calls about which Ds will be good in week 15 seven weeks out.But I'm definitely putting the Chargers on my watch list, and I'll be on the lookout for news about any defensive injuries they may suffer.

Not waiver wire but Texans are at home Week 15 vs Colts and Week 16 vs MIN. Arizona at home vs DET week 15 and CHI week 16 also looks good. Otherwise, Jets have a great schedule down the stretch.

Like the idea [icon] for this thread. Great idea! Here's another suggestion.

16: NE (Jax), SD (NYJ), DEN (CLE), NYJ (SD), OAK (CAR)

15. NE (SF), SD (CAR), DEN (BAL), NYJ (TEN), OAK (KC)

14. NE (HOU), SD (PIT), DEN (OAK), NYJ (JAC), OAK (DEN)

I kept SD in there as they look good, but also really liking DEN or even potentially OAK or the NYJ.

Yep, nailed it here.I did the same analysis last night and picked them up off the WW this a.m. Pairing with 49ers.

I also like Den/Minn combo, Minn has STL WK15

SD defense looks great if the SD offense isn't turning it over 4 times a game. At this point, who knows how this offense and Rivers plays out the rest of the season.

If they get hot as is customary, they would be solid plays. Shareece Wright is coming back and hopefully starts over Cason soon. That offense though, never been so skeptical that they can turn it around.

Miami is definitely a favorite of mine in week 15/16 playoff scenarios. They play home games against Buffalo and Jacksonville.

Really like the Jets and Broncos down the stretch as well. To me these 3 teams could be more valuable in the playoffs than powerhouses like the Bears and 49ers due to their tougher schedules.

So the Chargers aren't available in your league but the Texans and Cardinals are? Are you guys using the golf scoring system?

You're right. Maybe I should have put it in the first three words. Oh wait...I was able to trade a bench guy for the Texans D. Do you trade in your league?

I keep staring at the Giants who have the 2nd-highest point total (64 points) among available defenses in my league. I like that they rack up points even though they have no defensive or special teams TD's, which can be fluky and hard to predict. The problem is that they have a brutal schedule, but maybe it doesn't matter. The other top scoring defenses available in my league are the Broncos (65, already had a bye), Redskins (63), Ravens (62), Jets (61), and Rams (59) before a bit of a drop-off.

Update:

NOw the #3 Team Defense in my Office Money League. Last week they threw up a "Stinker" vs Cleveland that should have been a good matchup. They only allowed 7 points but didn't get much in the way of added scoring (Sacks, Int's, DTDs). This week in another "Good game" they really came alive with a 27 point game that included a sack, INT, 3 fumbles and 2 DTDs).

5 GOOD GAMES (OAK/TEN/KC/CLE/KC) : 5 INT / 8 SACK / 7 FUMREC / 3 DEF TD / 74 Points Allowed : AVG 16.8 Fantasy Points

3 BAD GAMES: (ATL/NO/DEN): 3 INT / 5 SACK / 2 FUMREC / 1 DEF TD / 83 Points Allowed : AVG 6.6 Fantasy Points

That's the issue with San Diego...they get you very little extra points for sacks, so you're overly reliant on turnovers and scoring.

I played them this week because of the great matchup, but I'm not sure if I trust them in a game that isn't against a team like the Chiefs. They have scored exactly 100 points in my league, and exactly 50 of them have come in the two games vs. the Chiefs (kind of strange the numbers add up so perfectly).

That's 50 points in their other 6 games combined which averages to 8.3 points a game. Not bad, but not a team that I'd be looking at unless the matchup is fantastic.

THe good news is that Carolina and New York (Jets) are good matchups in weeks 15 and 16. Personally though, I keep expecting offensive outbursts from Carolina, so they scare me a bit. I'm sure by week 15 though, we'll know whether they are rolling over and dying or have a little bit of fight left in them. I currently have the Broncos and Chargers on my roster (grabbed Denver for ROS and held onto SD for this week), but I'm thinking that combining the two could work out...

Week 10 - Panthers (Broncos)

Week 11 - Chargers (Broncos)

Week 12 - Chiefs (Broncos)

Week 13 - Bengals (Chargers)

Week 14 - Raiders (Broncos)

Week 15 - Panthers (Chargers)

Week 16 - Jets (Chargers)

That's a pretty damn good schedule if you're willing to hold two defenses.

I have the Chargers and Fins. And am trying to get the Pats. Jax plays MIA, NE in weeks 15-16.

And the Jets are at Jax week 14.

Now SD:

How good are those matchups, really?

The Jets at NY/NJ. They were horrible vs the 9ers and Texans, but those are damned good defenses. The Jets showed up for other games at home like NE.

And SD has offensive problems of their own, in fact if you take a look they are ranked 9th in FBG FFPA rankings where the NYJ are 8th. I could see the Jets' D having a field day vs the Bolts just as easily.

By the way right now in terms of FBG FFPA vs DSTs rankings right now sandwiched between KC and Jax is.... the Dallas Cowboys. Nothing like a late season Tony Romo implosion. Might want to keep that one in mind.

Also Btw, KC closes: @CLE, @OAK, vs Indy. All three of those defenses are probably pretty gettable.

Carrying three (3) defenses at the moment which sucks, but this is the schedule i've been able to amass. Plan on picking up the Bengals next week.... DEF are scarce, and no one is willing to trade me a DEF since I am in first place.

Currently have TB, CAR, and WAS

Five matchups vs Philadelphia, One vs Kansas City, and One vs San Diego. Sad part is that I am from Philly suburb and they are my team, ashame whats happened here

Week 10 - Tampa Bay vs SD

Week 11 - Washington vs PHI

Week 12 - Carolina @ PHI

Week 13 - Carolina @ KC

Week 14 - Tampa Bay vs PHI

Week 15 - Cincinnati @ PHI

Week 16 - Washington @ PHI

I'm rolling with this:

Week 10: Rams @ 49ers

Week 11: Jets @ Rams

Week 12: Rams @ Cardinals

Week 13: 49ers @ Rams

Week 14: Dolphins @ 49ers

Week 15: ??????

Week 16: 49ers @ Seahawks

TY icon, 25 for me vs KC last week, will keep them now as I am definitely going to the playoffs in that league. Rotate them with the Bucs and Miami at times.

Great thread

Main league I've got Seattle an Denver..

(just gunna be tough deciding who in week 13)

10 Den @ Car

11 Den vs SD

12 Den @ KC

13 Den VS TB

14 Den @ Oak

15 Den @ Bal

16 Den vs Cle

10 Seat vs NYJ

11 BYE -

12 Seat @ Mia

13 Seat @ Chi

14 Seat vs Ari

15 Seat @ Buf

16 Seat vs SF

But playoffs Seat week 14/15 and Den 16 looks pretty nice.

As others have mentioned I like 2 of the 3 playoff games for Miami.

(and the Bucs have 2 nice playoff match-ups there as well)

My money's on the Jets. Already picked them up in one league with no intention of playing them till week 14 (15 if I get the bye).

I like the Jets schedule, the problem with their defense is their offense.

KC closes:

CIN

DEN

CAR

AT CLE

AT Oak

Indy

I'd say you could get most of those defenses in advance and just start rolling them.

The Browns & Broncs may be owned. The Jets do go to Jax in wk 14 and Mia gets Jax at home wk 15.

I'm still wary of the Jets & Chargers because of their own offensive woes, they could be deemed good matchups for the other side as well. The Jags also have a terrible tendency to score garbage points ruining a potentially great DST day. look at last week, the Lions destroyed the Jags but in my main league they just giot an 8 point DST day. In the playoffs you want a big, big scoring day.

Some team or two will be rolling out a backup or rookie QB down the line as the season gets out of hand and those are always teams to pounce on in terms of DST matchups late in the year, I just don't see them yet.

I've always meant to look up past stats, but never got around to it. But I don't think a DST vs. an unknown QB is a good play.A lot of QBs with no prior exposure have turned it on for a few weeks at the end of the year. It seems that until defensive coordinators have a few games worth of tape on a guy, they aren't as able to plan for him or something. Billy Volek was the epitome of this... guy with no tape to research shows up out of nowhere and for 3 games is the best QB that ever played the game. I think Ryan Fitzpatrick may have started out similarly. Matt Flynn had that big game last year.I'm not talking about a backup getting called up midgame, or a career 2nd-stringer that's appeared here and there through the years, or played in preseason or something like that; I'm talking about a QB that has no prior NFL starts and no game tape to watch, but, has a full week of 1st team reps in practice knowing he's the next week's starter. Those guys are guys you want to avoid having to rely on a DST against.

I picked up the Colts for the JAX game - I'm going to hang on to them. Not sure about Oakland at this point - may have to find a better option.

How bout some fish n chips?

W14...CLE at home vs KC (Miami at SF)

W15...MIA at home vs JAX

W16...MIA at home vs BUF

Moreover, you can just ride it out from here with these two because the next three weeks look like this:

W11...MIA at BUFF Don't like this one a ton as it's on 4 days rest and travel but I do expect a big effort on TV plus the egg they just laid.

W12...MIA at home vs SEA Rookie QB, long road trip.

W13...CLE at OAK (Miami has NE)

Jets have a great schedule down the stretch.
With the exception of the Pats week 12 it looks very good:Rams (7 INT/25 sacks)Cardinals (8 INT/41 sacks)Jaguars (7 INT/25 acks)Titans (7 INT/17 sacks)Chargers (12 INT/25 sacks)

That's my play. For next week, I'm thinking of grabbing the Rams vs AZ but otherwise the Jets look solid with that schedule. Their defense has not been the problem.

I'd be interested to know how SD has fared historically versus OAK. I seem to have used them on a few occasions and never reaped any significant rewards. It's always a tough rivalry game.

TB has PHL at home and STL at home weeks 14/16. Looking for a good week 15 option. Holding GB who plays Chicago week 15, who had a great game earlier this year against Cutler. May run with this, as GB/Chicago usually play good defensive games

Rolling ATL/CLE/ oak, based Alomost exclusively on the kc matchups.

My league is defense insane. 14 teams, 28 DST owned.

I'm rolling with STL and SD for the rest of the way. Decent match-ups, just one bad week.

Week 11: NYJ @ Rams D

Week 12: Rams D @ ARI

Week 13: CIN @ Chargers D

Week 14: Rams D @ BUF

Week 15: MIN @ Rams D // CAR @ Chargers D (Unsure about this one)

Week 16: Chargers D @ NYJ

The only D that are available are: Cardinals, Titans, Chiefs, Jaguars

Ouch.

I'm pressing hard to get San Fran or Denver right now but might have to settle for Pittsburgh. I'm not sure Pitt is worth trading draft picks for in a dynasty. I currently have Green Bay and Cincinnati.

Week 14: GB @ Detroit

Week 15: Cin @ Philly

Week 16: GB vs. Tennessee
