benjamin, freeman, freeman, benjamin. benjamin should be long gone in non ppr - that's the format where he's more valuable as a red zone threat. and freeman should be long gone in ppr, since he's a good receiver and three down back.

I find the votes for West over Lee, Benjamin and Robinson in the standard poll to be puzzling.

At least in the case of Freeman and Hyde the veteran ahead of them on the depth chart is 31 years old.

Ben Tate will be 26 years old in August and his injuries that cost him playing time (broken ankle 2010 and cracked ribs in 2013) are not related. He has also had hamstring and foot injuries which could be related to the ankle injury and may be a chronic issue, but it wasn't an issue in 2013 where he played in the 1st 14 games before being shut down the last 2 games because of 4 broken ribs he had since week 8 against Kansas City.

West probably has the clearest path to a job of the remaining guys. He doesn't need to beat out the incumbent, because there isn't one yet. He just needs to be the best running back on the team. If you're enamored with wests talent then that's not a huge hill to climb. Andre williams could be in a similar situation. Hard to say because im not enamored with his talent at all. The guy I like though is kadeem carey, if you can wait a year or two. He might not pan out but the trestman back looks like a valuable position and he's an injury away from having a huge opportunity.

the West hype train is in high gear
Not from me. Im just looking at the situation. West might be great, he might suck, but the opportunity is there because there is no incumbent to beat. He just needs out outperform a free agent back (and another talented rookie in crowell). I have no idea if west is good enough, but that opportunity alone is worth something, so if you sort the remaining running backs by opportunity, he would float to the top. Storm johnson is in a similar situation. All he has to do is beat out a free agent like toby gerhart. I think the jaguars have shown more commitment to gerhart than the browns have to tate, and west was drafted significantly ahead of johnson, but the reason people like storm as a flier is because the opportunity exists.

Kadeem carey, on the other hand, has no chance of playing this year without an injury. Even if he was the second coming of matt forte, he would still be sharing time with matt forte. I like carey, though. what I like about carey is that he may be the future starter, and he is already they primary backup. Hes also one of those all purpose type backs I like who can run inside, run outside, catch and score. So to me, he's a valuable player because his path to opportunity, while a little more blocked, is to a bigger potential opportunity.

that's my thought process when comparing west to the available receivers. And in my case, I see kelvin benjamin as a significantly more valuable player than west. But if I were picking in one of the drafts where devonta freeman was already taken, I would exhaust the potential stud wr tier, and possibly the qbs/tes if there are any good ones left, then grab west because I think he has the best opportunity of the remaining backs. Young running backs with opportunity are one of the most valuable commodities in the game (outside of those awful wr heavy start one rb leagues).
