Anyone catch this on HBO last night. I was interested since Newburgh is only 15 or so minutes from my house.

I know I only have what they presented, but im not sure how a jury thought these guys were terrorists. Criminals, sure but I wouldn't call them terrorists. Just my 2 cents. Ive been wrong before.

 
This is the case with a lot of these "stings". FBI or locals find some guy to push into something. They provide everything. They provide the planning, they provide the weapons/explosives,they help pick targets, they give them money. If they start to get cold feet they goad them or push them with offers of money or whatever reward they think will work. Then when everything that law enforcement planned and provided for is ready they arrest the guy. Basically most of these probably would have never gone beyond some ####### talking crap if law enforcement didn't do it all for them.

Is this similar to the cases where cognitively impaired men are being used to buy drugs or teens are being tricked into crimes by female cops luring them with sex?

Basically. I would say this is more akin to an undercover going into a bar and trying to find someone to buy him a small amount of coke like a gram or so. He finally gets lucky and finds someone who can hook him up. Then he wants the guy to setup a deal for a big amount. Guy demurs because he was just helping a guy out he isn't really a dealer. Undercover keeps coming back begging, cajoling the guy even maybe being a little threatening until he makes a call. Now he is a drug kingpin and someone gets promoted.

“Everything that was done to plan this alleged event was done by the police officers,” said Michelle Peterson, the attorney for one of the men. In arguing for a lighter sentence, Peterson said the police had “continued to ply this young, impressionable man with alcohol, scantily clad women and offers of obscene amounts of money if he did what they wanted him to do.”

Pretty sure a there is a constitution amemdment against entrapment. How on earth things like this dont qualify ill never know

My wife and I watched this last night. Anyone who knows me knows I am very much against terrorism but this looks like a case of entrapment. Maybe they are guilty of something but not terrorism. These were just poor people who were asked if they wanted to make a lot of money.

 
Just watched this. Sorry state of affairs. Instead of hunting real terrorists, we are trying to create fake ones.

 
Just watched this. Pretty sickening. It's one thing to infiltrate certain groups and get on the inside but it's entirely another thing to be behind the planning from the beginning to set these guys up like that. Notice how the first guy disappeared for a while, probably having second thoughts. As soon as he comes back, the informant makes the $250,000 offer. Too hard for a guy like that to turn down. Yes, he could have brought this to the attention of the authorities, which would have been the right thing to do, but this is a lottery win for them.

Sad all around.
