We need to increase free trade and open up the markets of the world even more. That will always be the main solution to prosperity, and anything that interferes with it, whether it be tariffs, price fixing, minimum wage, or attempting to halt legal or illegal immigration, will eventually harm prosperity and bring us down.

I keep on saying. We need to start overpopulating like a mutha. We need to have so many kids everyone's house is looking like the Waltons. Throw all these kids into the workforce early, and when we are collecting social security they be paying us the big bucks. Also, by that time "we the older" will hold every major political office so we can just take all that money and put it directly in our pockets. Lets just make sure that we don't provide these kids with decent education, they might try and get a sense of their own politics. Also, lets provide them with plenty of VR tech reality porno distractions to keep em from ever getting involved in anything of significant impact. We can hold some XYZ protest with hippie jam bands for some cause that they forget about by the time we get em all riled up about the next cause. They'll hit like on Facebook, blog about it, take our synthetic techno drugs and forget all about it by the time they jerk off into a tube sock. Get this info graphic to 50% by 2037. VOTE FOR ME!

look that sounds great, but it's a temporary outcome; in the long run that parent's earnings will devalue back to the point where it was before, and hurt other earnings along with it. You can't fix prices.

Now that being said, there are times (and this may be one of them) where we have to raise the minimum wage anyhow. Free market philosophy is great but it doesn't always jibe with what's happening now. I'm not a guy who clings to ideals if the reality paints a different picture.
But we should understand that if it's long term prosperity we are seeking, minimum wage moves us a little away from that goal...just a little. (Stopping free trade and immigration would move us a LOT away.)

Better just to go with some version of a negative income tax. Minimum wages are an incredibly ###-backwards way to deal with head-of-household poverty. If you want to make like easier for the poor, give money to the poor. Don't raise wages for a bunch of part-time teenagers in the hopes that you'll also help a few poor people too.
