Godwin's Law. All internet discussion eventually lead to nazi/hitl

11 February 2014 - 06:16 AM

A theory states that the longer an Internet discussion goes on, the probability of a Hitler or Nazi reference approaches 100%
It's known as Godwins law. In 1990, during the early days of the Internet, Mike Godwin observed that, given enough time, in any online discussion, someone would invariably criticize something someone else said by comparing it to something Hitler or the Nazis would have said.

The rule doesnt claim to say that the reference in question is appropriate or inappropriate, only that the longer a discussion continues, the likelihood that Hitler or the Nazis will be brought up increases.

Because of the frequency at which this happens, Godwin has argued that overuse of these references should be avoided because it lessens the impact of the comparison.

When Godwin first formed the idea, it referred specifically to discussions on Usenet. Today, he says it applies to any threaded online discussion, but the meaning behind it stays the same. Godwin wanted people who throw out Nazi references to think harder about the Holocaust instead of just tossing the names around.

Media Matters today suggests that Godwins Law is no longer limited to internet forums and the like because of the frequency that Hitler and the Nazis are referenced on national television in the news and other media outlets.

Porn starís O-cup breasts could kill her unless she has a mastectomy

Elizabeth Starr, 43, underwent a controversial surgery to get dramatically enlarged boobs, hoping they'd help her career. Now, she says, she's paying the price.

Doctors have told Starr that unless she undergoes a double mastectomy, she runs the risk of blood clots and infections.

"There is so much scar tissue in my breasts it's affecting the blood flow to the body and could cause a fatal blood clot," Starr told U.K. newspaper The Sun.

With a third on the way, I'm starting to get to grips that it might be time to get a minivan. Checked out the odyssey today and Mrs R really like it. They are quoting the EXL at $34k to buy plus all the taxes ext getting you to $38k. On a lease they have it at $489/month including the taxes etc.
I also looked at the Buick Snclave which looked awesome and had the same minivan setup inside but looks like an SUV and gets you AWD.

The minivan is going to be cheaper and probably offers better convieniences for a growing family but it is a minivan.

Anybody want to talk me off the ledge.
