Hey guys--
In my league (10 teams, 18 rounds - 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 Flex (RB, WR, TE), 1 K, 1 D/T, we have a one hour auction where you get what you want for your $50, then we have a step ladder draft to fill up remaining roster spots.
My question is this....since our whole roster isn't bid on, is there some way to "trick" the program to only price out maybe the Top 50?

Usually we have 10 QB's, 20 RB's, 18 WR's and 2 TE's bid on. Is there a way to do this or am I just going to have to use my own judgment? Thanks so much.

You could try to change your number of starters or number of rounds to only cover 50 players.
If you are actually starting: 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 Flex (RB, WR, TE), 1 K, 1 D/T.
Try setting your inputs to ten teams and 5 rounds with starters of: 1QB, 2RB, 2WR and 1TE.
When I tested this, LT reached $15, the top QBs were $7 the top WRs were $10, and the top TEs were $6. Based on historical pricing, what were the top positional players costing in previous years?
Also, are you able to take as many players as you wish as long as you have money? If so, there might be some interesting options of building a team full of near-top tier players as I suspect folks are overpaying for the top RBs, QBs, and WRs early leaving the possibility to buy a team like: Gannon ($6), Garner ($8), Tiki ($8), Dillon ($9), W. Green ($6), Boston ($5), Koren ($4), Driver ($4).
An interesting concept, please elaborate on how things went in previous years....

Usually RB's go for premium $$$ as you can get as many players as you can get as many players as possible with your $50 in the one hour. We had one owner get 14 players one year, but he had so many mediocre players that it backfired on him

. Usually our top two or three backs go for $25+.....QB's usually go for around $5-$10 for top 5 or 6, and besides the BIg 3 WR ($12-$17), the rest of WR go for $5 or less. I usually like to spend $15-$20 on a back or two then nickel and dime it. Last year I got Tomlinson for $12

, Holmes for $15,

and Owens for $13, then nickel and dimed it with Tiki ($5)

and Driver ($2) (I had $3 left over). Last year, Faulk went for $32, A. Green for $24, R. Williams for $22 and Edge for $21.25

. I made it to my league title game, only to lose for the fifth time in nine years

(see below)...thanks for the idea....I'll have to try it

If you want to draft based on true value, then you should not overpay for the few top backs or the very top WRs. While it is true that if everyone overpays, it works out to be even, I think you can rock this league if you are willing to act like you have traded your #1 pick for 6 second/third round picks. By not overpaying for these few players early, that's effectively the end result and I'd take that trade anyday knowing I'd probably win. Additionally, by taking many 2-3 round players you spread out the risk over many players instead of relying on just one. You can platoon several good RBs, pair them up with good matchup WRs, and work the schedule to field a very good team every week. Think of it in trading terms. Last year (at the start of the season) wouldn't you have traded:
Faulk ($32)
for all of the following?:
Gannon ($6), Tiki ($8), Dillon ($9), W. Green ($5), D Boston ($4)
