Not sure if I understand the flex values completely in DD.

I am in a league that allows you to draft 15 players:

A general draft would be

2 QB
2 Def Teams
2 kickers
5 WR
4 RB

Each week we start :

1 QB
1 Def Team
1 kicker
at least 1 RB
at least 2 WR/TE
the remaining starter can be a RB or WR/TE

What should I enter for number of starters in DD and are the flex values automatically assigned??

Thanks for the help,

Jeff

Your best bet is RB-1, WR-2 and Flex 1...

Although you are going to want at least 2 RBs, so I'd be tempted to use RB-2, and likewise you are going to want at least 3 WRs... so I'd enter WR-3

First things first, Great Application! My wife and I are ready for a wonderful draft in a few weeks.

To ride on Fishead's post, within DD you are able to change the flex settings. It mentions below the flex calculations, "If you don't like these values, just enter decimals in the yellow boxes and set Number of Flex RB/WR/TE = 0".

I can have a combined total of 4 RBs and WRs, but I have to start a minimum of 1 at each position. (3/1, 2/2, or 1/3). TE, QB, PK, & Def/St can only start 1 at each position. When I set starters at one per position and set RB/WR/TE Flex at 2 - the output is RB-3, WR-1 & TE-1.

I am in a 8-team league.

We are required to draft 2QBs, 3RBs, 3WRs, 2TEs, 2Ks, 2Def/St, & 2 flex players (QB, RB, WR, TE)

What numbers should I strive for in the Flex Calculations?:

a) My average starting line-up (pretty close to 2 RBs and 2 WRs last year)

b) Weighted towards WRs because the talent pool is deeper (1 RB & 3 WRs)

c) Weighted towards RBs because the talent pool for top RBs is weak (3 RBs & 1 WR)

What I am getting at is what settings should I strive for in the Flex Calculations that will increase the chance of winning it all this year? What settings are "agreeable"? What do my settings need to be for me to dominate my draft?

Is this already done for me when it automatically come up with 3RBs, 1WR & 1TE? My guess is YES to this last question. The fact that it mentions below the Flex Calculations that I may not agree with them, made me wonder. Call me anal, just don't call me late for dinner!

If I set the settings to 2/2 I get 10RBs, 4WRs, and 2TEs in the first two rounds.

If I set the settings 3RBs, 1 WR, 1 TE, I get 15RBs & 1WR. Judging from what Dodd wrote on VBD - I believe this would be the correct answer. . .

If I set the settings to 1RB, 3 WR & 1 TE, I get 5RBs, 7WRs, 3TEs & 1QB.

These settings obviously have a huge bearing on ON MY ENTIRE SEASON.

I apologize for the long post and I appreciate any feedback or clarification  .

See you in the SuperBowl!!

I think your best bet is to set it to RB-2, WR-2, and flex 1. Bottom line you are going to want at least 2 running backs on your team. Likewise for wide receivers.

Thanks Bruce!

So 2RBs, 2WRs and the flex 1 includes one of these four players? testemot.gif I thought the flex position was in addition to my limit of 4 so that was causing some confusion. yes.gif

Thanks again for the assistance and the clarification!

Hi, me again,

I have to have a total of 4 players between the RBs and WRs but I have to play at least one in each position (again - 1/3, 2/2, or 3/1).

Joe Isaia wrote a short while ago:

"in my league we require 2 rb's and 2 wr's. We also require 1 flex rb/wr. Our flex does not include TE's. How do I set up my flex calculation to best reflect this? Thx in advance!".

The response for 5 total RBs/WRs was:

"RB-2, WR-2, and flex 1... you'll notice that the Flex doesn't affect the TE anyway..."

This is the same advice that was given to me, except I can only play 4 players at these two positions.

What I ended up doing was setting number of starting RBs to ZERO the number of starting WRs to ZERO and the number of starting TEs to ONE. I then placed a 4 in the number of flex positions. The numbers in the flex catagories = 3RB, 2.8WR and 1TE.

Even though the "Flex Calculations" looked funny, it turned out that the cheatsheets look a little more realistic to our league scoring. In the top 16 (two rounds since we are in an 8-team league) I have 14 RBs and 2 WRs, with ShockMe going at 24th overall. Our TE scoring system is a little inflated so it looks realistic to me.

An avid fantasy player (who suggested that I sign up for this site because "It's the best one out there, bar none!") suggested this 'trick' with the hopes of using the flex player option to automatically weight the RBs and WRs to 'best available'. nerd.gif Whether this is what is going on in the flex calculations or not, it's anybody's guess, but it seems to work for me.

The difference is if I choose 1 starter for RB and WR and flex 2, the last zero to appear for VBD in overall rankings is at position 50. With starters set to zero for RB and WR and flex 4, the last zero VBD to appear in overall rankings is at position 64.

Can't say enough good things about this application! I was thinking of putting a spreadsheet together by myself and averaging other projections out there, only to come up with something less than adequate.

Apologies for the long post bag.gif but I think I've got it now!

Thanks and cheers! beer.gif

I'm curious to hear opinions on the last two posts. My league requires 1 RB, 1 WR and 3 flex (rb/wr/te), so it is a similar situation to SeniorSeason's league (moreso, since I have to worry about an extra flex).

I had been setting up the VBD and DD at face value to my league's actual requirements -- 1 rb, 1 wr, 0 te, 3 flex... but now you've got me rethinking it. I didn't realize following directions isn't necessarily the best thing to do! Silly me! Hehe! So now... should I do the 2 rb setting or the 0 rb setting or leave it as-is.

Just when I thought I had in under control... wink1.gif

I'm sure others of you have similar league setups to what me and SeniorSeason have. What values do you use/recommend in the VBD and DD? All comments and suggestions are appreciated!
