Full Version: Another odd scoring system

Alright to start with here is the scoring system that the commish in our league has set for this year on Sportsline.com for us. My questions are in blue after each topic:

Scoring for Offensive Categories
FG - Field Goals 3 points
Plus 1 point for a FG of 31 to 40 Yds
Plus 2 points for a FG of 41 to 49 Yds
Plus 3 points for a FG of 50 to 80 Yds
Pa2P - Passing Two-point Conversion 2 points
PaInt - Passing Interception 0 points
PaTD - Passing TD 4 points
Re2P - Receiving Two-point Conversion 2 points
ReTD - Receiving TD 6 points
Ru2P - Rushing Two-point Conversion 2 points
RuTD - Rushing TD 6 points
TotYd - Passing, Rushing & Receiving Yards 0 points
XP - Extra Points 1 point
No questions here this is pretty basic
Again, another option that I feel confident in setting in the current DD smile.gif !!!!!

Special Scoring for Team Quarterbacks
Pa2P - Passing Two-point Conversion 2 points
PaTD - Passing TD 4 points
Re2P - Receiving Two-point Conversion 2 points
ReTD - Receiving TD 6 points
Ru2P - Rushing Two-point Conversion 2 points
RuTD - Rushing TD 6 points
TotYd - Passing, Rushing & Receiving Yards 251+ TotYds = 1 point for every 10 TotYds
Plus a 3 point bonus @ 250+ TotYd
Ok now how do I accomodate this one...the system uses a 300 yard bonus...and also a yardage bonus...but the commish is basically saying that at 250 yards you get a 3 point bonus and every 10 yards AFTER that you get 1 point per 10 yards. So What would be the suggestion here?

Special Scoring for Running Backs
Pa2P - Passing Two-point Conversion 2 points
PaTD - Passing TD 4 points
Re2P - Receiving Two-point Conversion 2 points
ReTD - Receiving TD 6 points
Ru2P - Rushing Two-point Conversion 2 points
RuTD - Rushing TD 6 points
TotYd - Passing, Rushing & Receiving Yards 101+ TotYds = 1 point for every 10 TotYds
Plus a 3 point bonus @ 100+ TotYd
Same concept here...except on this one I can automatically set the 3 point bonus since 100 yards is the option. But again, how do you accomodate yardarge after the fact of the 100 yards?

Special Scoring for Wide Receivers
Pa2P - Passing Two-point Conversion 2 points
PaTD - Passing TD 4 points
Re2P - Receiving Two-point Conversion 2 points
ReTD - Receiving TD 6 points
Ru2P - Rushing Two-point Conversion 2 points
RuTD - Rushing TD 6 points
TotYd - Passing, Rushing & Receiving Yards 81+ TotYds = 1 point for every 10 TotYds
Plus a 3 point bonus @ 80+ TotYd
And here is an interesting one...80 yard bonus. Now what do I do with the same concept of the bonus yardage after the fact of the 80 yard bonus!!!!

Special Scoring for Tight Ends
Pa2P - Passing Two-point Conversion 2 points
PaTD - Passing TD 4 points
Re2P - Receiving Two-point Conversion 2 points
ReTD - Receiving TD 6 points
Ru2P - Rushing Two-point Conversion 2 points
RuTD - Rushing TD 6 points
TotYd - Passing, Rushing & Receiving Yards 51+ TotYds = 1 point for every 10 TotYds
Plus a 3 point bonus @ 50+ TotYd
And here I am thinking this ups the value of tighends due to the lower yardage required for the bonuses...so how do I account for this?

Special Scoring for Kickers
FG - Field Goals 3 points
Plus 1 point for a FG of 30 to 39 Yds
Plus 2 points for a FG of 40 to 49 Yds
Plus 3 points for a FG of 50 to 59 Yds
Plus 4 points for a FG of 60 to 100 Yds
Pa2P - Passing Two-point Conversion 2 points
PaTD - Passing TD 4 points
Re2P - Receiving Two-point Conversion 2 points
ReTD - Receiving TD 6 points
Ru2P - Rushing Two-point Conversion 2 points
RuTD - Rushing TD 6 points
XP - Extra Points 1 point
Finally another option that I feel confident in setting in the current DD smile.gif !!!!!

Scoring for Defensive Categories
BFB - Blocked Field Goals (ID/ST/DST) 1 point
BXP - Blocked Extra Points (ID/ST/DST) 1 point
DFR - Defensive/ST Fumble Recovered (ID/DT/DST) 1 point
DTD - Total Defensive and Special Teams TD 6 points
Int - Interceptions 1 point
PA - Points Against, Total Points Scored 0 - 1 PA = 10 points
2 - 9 PA = 3 points
SACK - Sack 1 point
STY - Safety 6 points
Again I think I am good witht this one too.

I am sorry if this seems to be alot of question...I just want to get the best setup otptions possible this year. I have been with FFguys and using DD for a few years now. I went from basically last place in the league the first year to third to last place in the league to middle of the pack last year. I have yet to make the playoffs. I think I just have bad luck with FF in general but want to try and atleast make the playoffs this year. This guy is really how I feel right now with fantasy football lol: wallbash.gif
Thanks for all your help!!

QB Passing

3 / 250 = .012
4 / 260 = .015
5 / 270 = .018
6 / 280 = .021
7 / 290 = .024
8 / 300 = .026
9 / 310 = .029
10 / 320 = .032

Avg = 0.022. I'd start with this number.

For the Rushing and Passing since they are combined yards... I'd start with something like 0.025 (4 / 100) for rushing and 0.050 (4 / 80) for receiving.

For TE I'd start with 0.08 (4 / 50) receiving.

I'd take a look at the rankings using the above numbers... and then tweak them up if necessary... like possibly 0.05 (5 / 100) for rushing and 0.0625 (5 / 80) for receiving.

Bruce, why did you go with a 250-320 range? My scoring gives 2 points for 150, 4 for 300 and then 1 point for every 25 after that, so the average jumps quite a bit depending where you start and end.

I'm wondering if the 300 point bonus field might help me out in some way.

My league also scores by combined rush+receiving yards... 2 pts for 50, 4 for 100, and +1 for every 15 over 100.

Any input greatly appreciated.

Because after 300, it is too hard to project QB passing... so I stoped at the first range above 300. In your case I'd probably just use 5 pts for the 300 pt bonus.

Likewise with the +1 for every 15 over 100... it is difficult to project RBs and WRs much over 100, so I'd just use 5 pts for 100 yards.

In combined rush+receiving yards... you will want to go with a little higher pt total to account for this... for example in stead of using 2 pts for 50... use 3 or 4 pts for 50... Likewise for 100 use 5 to 6 points.

I like where you're going with the QB stuff. Only using the +300 is a good start.

However I'm still a little lost with what you might be suggesting for RB/WR scoring. My concern is if a runner nets 99 Rush/46 Rec (145 Total).

By this league's scoring system he'll get 7 points.
Using what you're suggesting, he'd score 0 (unless I'm mistaken).

If this was only a fraction of a point, I wouldn't sweat it, but this is a huge gap, so I'm concerned I'll need to figure out a fraction to put into the DD.

Actually if you enter the Rushing and Receving at 5 pts / 100 = 0.05, then
(99 * .05 = 4.95) + (46 * .05 = 2.3) = 7.25 So you are right there.

Bruce,

My league also uses yardage ranges for the QB, RB, and WR/TE. What should I set my in the set-up in DD.

QB yards:
50 - 99 PaYds = 1 point
100 - 149 PaYds = 2 points
150 - 199 PaYds = 3 points
200 - 249 PaYds = 4 points
250 - 299 PaYds = 5 points
300 - 349 PaYds = 6 points
350 - 399 PaYds = 7 points
400 - 449 PaYds = 8 points
450 - 499 PaYds = 9 points
500 - 549 PaYds = 10 points
550+ PaYds = 11 points

RB, WR and TE:
10 - 29 ReYds = 1 point
30 - 49 ReYds = 2 points
50 - 69 ReYds = 3 points
70 - 89 ReYds = 4 points
90 - 109 ReYds = 5 points
110 - 129 ReYds = 6 points
130 - 149 ReYds = 7 points
150 - 169 ReYds = 8 points
170 - 189 ReYds = 9 points
190 - 209 ReYds = 10 points
210 - 229 ReYds = 11 points
230 - 249 ReYds = 12 points
250 - 269 ReYds = 13 points
270 - 289 ReYds = 14 points
290+ ReYds = 15 points

thanks.

QB use 6 / 300 = 0.02

RB, WR, TE use 6 / 110 = .05

Ok I know you answered this a while back but I am preparing for Fridays draft and just looking over some stuff....I entered the suggested data and everything looks good...do you suggest I enter anything for the 300yd and 100yd bonuses?
Bruce Henderson
I wouldn't ... since we based your numbers on 100 already
