When I'm in DD and attempt to import my modified projections (File > Import > VBD Spreadsheet), I get an error stating,

"Error Reading Excel File - Active X component can't create object"

I click "OK" and get a message stating,

"Error opening VBD Excel Spreadsheet, Close the Spreadsheet if Open and Try again"

The file is not open and I've tried importing it with every possible combination of Option boxes checked/unchecked in the Import box.

Any suggestions?????

i think this has something to do with my using Quattro Pro 10 spreadsheet software (it came on my HP laptop and I havent had any problems in the past opening .xls files, saving as .xls files etc.) to modify the projections since I don't have Excel. I opened the file as an Excel file and have saved it as an Excel every time. None of the formulas seem to have been affected by this etc and until now I thought it was completely compatible.

Perhaps I'm overlooking something?

Thanks a ton to anyone who can help me resolve this!

I could be totally off on this as I've not imported a spreadsheet, however I HAVE imported my own custom ADP file. With the ADP file, I got that (those) message(s) until I realized that the file name must be EXACTLY the same as the original ADP name. So I renamed the original file (so as not to lose it) and then proceeded with my modified file (under the original's name).

Hope this helps. If not, sorry.

Thanks for the insight. I think I have it resolved now.

What I did was found an old MS Office 97 disc from a previous PC and installed Excel 97. The wierd thing is that the files I tweaked in Quattro Pro are NOW importable as long as I saved them as .xls files (regardless of file name)...simply cuz I installed an old version of Excel?!?!

I am still puzzled but I guess I should just be happy it works now. I'm hoping it's ok to use excel 97 for this. I thought I saw something on here somewhere re: the version of Excel that will work or won't work, but I can't seem to find it now.

Does anyone know if Excel 97 is adequate for editing the VBD spreadsheets? I wonder if I'll find a flaw/incompatibility as I dive into this a bit more...
Bruce Henderson
Excel 95 or better is fine for editting the VBD Spreadsheet.

I've got the same error, only I have been saving/modifying the VBD app with Excel. But it's the Mac version of Excel. Then I copied the file into Windows running on Virtual PC, and it says
Active X component can't create object, followed by error reading VBD excel spreadsheet.

I tried changing the Excel file name back to the original Footballguys name, but that didn't work.

Can Mr. Shick shed any light on this since he uses a Mac with Virtual PC to run DD? Or anybody else have a suggestion?

Thanks
Bruce Henderson
I don't know if the import VBD works on a mac...

Has anybody done this successfully?
