Full Version: Best Value Pick Window Questions

I have read all the help pages and looked through all the posts in this forum. I just want to make sure I understand all the fields in the Best Value Pick Window.

Dropoff = the number of players at that position that will be taken by my next pick. Can you tell us how this is calculated? Is it based on ADP or does it change as the draft progresses to take into account actual picks? In other words, if ADP tells us that 10 RBs will be taken in the first round and only 5 are actually taken, does the dropoff change?

Drop Value = the difference between the top available player at that position and the player that is likely to be available at my next pick. So, if LT2 is available at 1.1 and the Dropoff in RBs by 2.12 is 20, then the Drop Value is the difference between LT2 and the 20th (or is it the 21st)? ranked RB? Is this based on VBD values of each player?

DVDB = the absolute VDB value times the need multiplier. Does the absolute VDB value change as the draft progresses (in other words, do the baseline players change as players are drafted) or is this static relying on the need multiplier to take into account the actual draft picks?

Auto Look Ahead = if this is checked does that mean that it automatically looks ahead to my next draft pick? If not, how many picks does it look forward?

Thanks for the help. I just want to understand what each field is telling me and to better understand overall which values change as the draft progresses and which numbers remain static.

Dropoff is calculated based on rankings early on, and then switches over to ADP as the draft progresses. It does update based on the players that have been selected thus far.

Drop Value does subtract the VBD values of the top player at the position minus the Dropoff players VBD. In your example of a dropoff of 20, it would subract RB21 from RB1.

DVBD = works off of the static baselines. It is the change in the Need Multiplier and the Drop Values that varies this number as the draft goes on.

Auto Look Ahead if checked will look ahead to your next draft pick... however it will never drop below 12 (Number of Teams). So that you are always looking ahead at least one round.

Thanks, Bruce! Just to make sure I understand Auto Look Ahead. If Auto Look Ahead never looks less than 12 spots and I am at spot 1.9, 2.4, 3.9, when I am drafting at 1.9, it is looking ahead beyond 2.4 (because there are less than 12 spots between 1.9 adn 2.4)? When I am at 2.4, it is looking ahead all the way to 3.9 (because there are more than 12 spots between 2.4 and 3.9)? Why wouldn't it just look to your next draft spot regardless of how many spots between?

It looks ahead a little bit more... just to cover any unforeseen picks... You can manually override it if you want.

I'm doing a mock draft with the other teams drafting by ADP. I noticed that the dropoff for kickers is always at zero, even with the Spots to Look Ahead set at 24 and in the last rounds of the draft.

The mock is waiting until the end of the draft to take kickers, which is certainly possible. However, in the next-to-last round, shouldn't it tell me that a certain number of kickers are going to be chosen prior to my last pick?

Is this an indication that something is messed up in my settings?

DD setup:
12 rounds (does not include 2 keepers)
8 teams
Start 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR/TE, 1 PK, 1 Def
Roster spots: 2 QB, 5 RB, 5 WR, 1 TE, 2 PK, 2 Def
Baseline: Worst Starter

Normally the DD doesn't recommend a kicker until the 13th round or so... This is mainly due to the fact that only two kickers have a lower ADP than the 12th round... and the teams drafting by ADP pick these guys up before they get to you.

If you try turning off the draft other teams by ADP, you should see one in the 10th round and one in the 11th round....
Sketch
So the dropoff value represents the difference in VBD between the top X players (x = dropoff) at each position whether or not those players are projected to be taken within the look ahead spots, correct? For example, I'm drafting at 5.01 w/ picks at 6.10, 7.01, and 8.10. Other teams are drafting ADP. The best values for 'complentary any' is Jake Plummer at 9.04 and JJ Arrington at 7.03, it's probably best to look at other positions (like Drew Bennet at 5.04).

Just making sure I've got this...

on the DD Best Value window, why are some of the entries in the "Team" column blue and others red?

Does this correspond to SOS?

Red = Bye Week Conflict at same position
Blue = Bye Week Conflict at another position
Black = No Bye Week Conflict.

Bruce, in your experience is this approach better than manually setting the look ahead to the exact number of spots between picks? Thanks, dw
