Bruce, is there any thought to releasing a version of the DD app with 2005 year end numbers in the near future? I've manually entered the data into an old version the last few years, but as Keys' thread in the SP shows, it's a ton of work. Of course, it may be more work for you

Sounded like Keys was planning to enter all the data... if so, I'll be happy to post it when he is done.

Most likely pinned at the top of the Applications Forum.

I should have this done very soon.
A few notes: Set K and DEF in initial setup to 0 required, 0 on team. I did not do these (you can do them individually if you want), because this experiement was to show how we should've drafted, and most people are from the mindset of not drafting K or DEF early at all, because of volitility.
For RB/WRs that threw passes, those are added to the stats (there's no passing stats to edit) equivalent to passing points in a standard scoring league.
There are no fumbles/receptions. There ARE interception totals.
No, I did not do EVERY single player. I did every player that would reasonably be drafted (in the perfect draft), and those players projected to be there at the beginning of the season (but fell out, so their stats had to be adjusted).
There are:
36 QBs
60 RBs
71 WRs
28 TEs
I hope that's enough to satisfy everyone...that should take your drafts pretty deep, and fully well enough to satisfy any research you want to do.
If I'm lucky, this will be finished today. If not, probably later this upcoming week.

I am very much interested in the defenses, which are hugely valuable in my league, with the good ones going quite early. I know the VBD value of the top 3 expected DTs - IF they achieved what they are expected - is second round material. The problem is the inability to expect what's expected.
Keys, can you tell me what exactly you did, so I have in my mind what's involved. Did you start with the players.dat file and change projections to actuals?
If this is manageable, I'd be willing to do it for the DTs, though it would be a couple of weeks at the earliest. And I'd do PKs if not too difficult.

I took the final 2005 stats (can be found in the subscriber info--YTD Final stats), then went into DD, went to Setup-Projections, then entered the data in there. Pretty crude, but it works.

Does changing the setup/projections change the players.dat file, which I then would send to Bruce?

Yes.

Okay, the DTs and PKs data have been sent to Bruce. Should be available shortly, I would think.
I'd love to get some feedback on the following. In playing around with the "actual" data, I haven't learned a whole lot, but it's given me more confidence in changing my practices.
For example, I think I've decided to continue to go with my own customized VBD baselines. I've been setting them at the number of players by position typically taken in my league by the end of the 8th round. This helps ensure that while continuing to gain the insights of VBD, I am applying them according to the potential pool available to me in the early rounds - rather than a hypothetical pool that my league owners' drafting propensities make obsolete.
However, I think I'm going to change this practice, by resetting them at the beginning of rounds 6 and 11. VBD BLs for the first five rounds will be based on number of players by position typically drafted in my league in the first five rounds. At the end of that round (or, rather, the beginning - there will be some overlap), I will reset them for the number of players typically drafted by the end of the 10th round. Then, at the beginning of the 10th round, I will reset them to worst starter for the rest of the draft.
Am curious about some theoreticians' thoughts about this plan. Thanks!
