Full Version: What is with these necklaces Pitchers are wearing?

I'm unable to find any photographic evidence at the moment, but I'm seeing more and more pitchers wearing what look like mini-leather hula-hoop necklaces. Luis Vizcaino on the yankees is the biggest culprit, stacking what looks like 5 or 6 of them on his neck. Phil Hughes is wearing one right now in the game. They seem to have a big bulky clasp and more and more guys have them flopping around as they pitch? Fashion statement or functional? What are they?

I heard Michael Kay last night say that they have magnets in them and are supposed to help with blood circulation. Kay said he wore one for about 3 hours, nothing happened so he labeled them a hoax. Basically made fun of the pitchers for wearing them.

You're right - Vizcaino is rediculous.

Been meaning to ask the same question here.

Ummm...what did he expect to happen? He suddenly be able to pitch? A sudden on rush of baseball insight and clarity of mind? His head to explode? confused1.gif

The Yankees are cursed since 04 so they're using them to combat evil forces.

Anyone ever try one of these Phiten necklaces? They are everywhere in MLB now...
Tom Servo
I'm more annoyed that Fausto Carmona never cuts the tags off his T-shirts. They're always visible when he pitches...
