This is a Zealots scoring league, 53 man rosters, PPR (1WR, 0.5RB). We start 1Qb/2RB/3WR/1TE/1PK/2DB/2DL/2LB with 1 O flex (QB,RB,WR,TE) and 2 DFlex (max 3 at one pos). Scoring is pretty normal, 1 tackle, 3 sack, 3 int, 2 ff, 2 fr, 1 pd, plus KR (1/40) PR (1/20). QB's are at a premium, since you can start two. I finished 9th/12, and I am in the toughest division. My team to date is:

Clearly I have issues at QB, mainly due to last years inaugural draft where Vick really dropped the ball, setting me back a bit. I am trying to currently acquire Delhomme or A Rodgers, and possibly Driver. Most QB's seem untouchable, since they are of such limited quanity. Last year I had one week where I had no starting QB... played Croyle hoping Huard would get hurt unsure.gif.
Was 7th in overall points, and 1st in defensive points last yr.
I traded this years first rounder before last yr, in a multiple player/pick deal to get DWill (turns out its 1.4, got two first rounders next yr).
Also moved DJ Williams for Croyle last offseason (desperate at QB).
I just acquired Portis/JHill in the offseason for TJones/Heap/NBarnett/Burleson (plus some picks being moved around).
Then traded T McGee (#1 DB last yr) for 2.6 and Andre Carter.
I got 2.4, 2.6, 3.4, 3.10, 4.6, 4.10, 5.4 for picks this yr.
What can I do to improve my team? Any comments on my trades to date?

ETA: Was looking to move into the 1.7-1.10 spot, maybe a shot at M Ryan or Brohm maybe (b/c of the option to start two QB's, QB's have high value). Any good offers I could put out? I know a lot depends on the other teams needs as well.

Not a top 12 QB in this bunch. I suppose Campbell still has some QB1 upside, but this area definitely needs work as you know.

Portis and MJD should be a nice 1-2 for the next couple of seasons. Who knows with Henry and Williams.

Boldin and Wayne are a nice start. Unlikely that the rest will amount to anything above WR3 replacement level IMO.

27 Lee, Donald GBP TE
28 Miller, Heath PIT TE
29 Smith, Alex TBB TE

Nice.

42 Johnson, Derrick KCC LB
43 Willis, Patrick SFO LB ®

Willis and Briggs look good. Greenwood and Johnson are good LB3. Be interesting to see what kind of value Koutouvides ends up having.

Lot depends on the development of Allen and Jackson, but this looks at least average for 2008.

Here's the rub. It's really difficult to commit to one path or the other when you're in the 4-7th overall points range. My strong opinion is that you need to always have a clear plan -- whether it be active rebuilding or active contending. Hindsight is easy, but I'm not sure what the purpose behind the group of trades you listed last year were. Did you think Croyle and DeWilliams were on the verge on breakout seasons? Both deals so far this season look okay, but I'm not certain what your roster plan is right now.

What's your plan for 2008? Do you think you've a legitimate chance at getting to the title game?

I did think DWill would get a shot, and that he was/is the best RB in CAR. With Croyle, it was a little homerism plus needing depth at QB, knowing that the Chiefs would give him a shot at least. I was looking to contend, I feel I am one good QB away right now. If I can acquire Delhomme, and if he performs, my team should compete IMO. Even then I'd say 2 of the top 3 teams are in my division. I want to say my team can get to the title game, but realistically I know I'll need a few breaks, and my WR/RB/Def to really care my squad. I was 5-8 last yr, and 1-6 (1-3 in my division) in my conference.

I was looking to move up to grab M. Ryan, is 1.04 too high to pick Ryan (2QB league)?
I offered:
1st rounder 09 (should be 8-12)
Jerry Porter, WR JAX
OJ Atogwe, S STL

For:
1.04

Not enough? Too much? I am in need of a solid QB. There is a chance that Ryan goes at 1.03, in that case I'd be left with drafting J Stewart/Rice/F Jones. I'd most likely try to trade back on draft day then. As I think about it, I think I'd wait till draft day to make this move... opinions?

TIA

I like this deal, but if I had the 1.04, there's zero chance I'd take it. Porter does nothing for anyone, Atogwe is an ok DB, but ok DBs don't command value in my leagues (the elite IDPs do) and the 09 1st, which will probably be lower than the 08 - well, you can see why I wouldn't take it.

If you're trying to improve QBs, I'd stay away from this year's rookie crop. See about Russell, Quinn, Edwards, Garrard, VY, Leinart, etc. the QBs who have quite a bit of time left in this league and have shown something (except Quinn, and Russell hasn't shown much yet).

I have yet to form an opinion on this year's rookies, but I agree with FUBAR's assessment.

I'd love to trade for Garrard, VY, Leinart... but QB's come at a high price (if at all), since QB's score relatively high and we can start 2. So the best way to go is find one in the draft, or trade for a vet. Not many teams have an abundance of QBs. Trying to make a deal for Delhomme or Rodgers, with the one team that may trade a QB. And the only other starter (maybe???) that seems to be on the trade block is John Beck. Garcia is a possibility (but he's so old), depending on how the draft goes. We draft a week after the NFL draft. The 1.04 is the spot that I would need to get to grab Ryan, 1.05 is in need of a QB too (he has McNair, Schaub, Quinn). Thanks for your opinions though guys, always welcomed.
