Agreed Widbil, I'm not mad at all. My wife was shocked by my reaction (or lack thereof) to this series lol.gif

Expectations were minimal to enter the season and the way they played down the stretch they shouldn't have even gotten in.

That being said, they gave us October baseball, not much more you could ask for as a baseball fan.

I can't wait to see what they do this offseason, with Floyd, Buerhle, and Danks coming back, color me an optimist.

Watching Q and Alexei grow into their respective roles is going to be fun to watch.
Power Monster
It is all about winning the championship. It was a failure of a season from that perspective but certainly more entertaining than last year. I just hope that some speed, defense and hitting can come over next year to blend in with the power hitters.

I wonder who Kenny is focusing on for the leadoff spot. It looks like the defensive lineup is pretty much set except for CF and possibly 2b for 09. 2nd base might be open for competition with the acqusiton of Jayson Nix but it appears they are giving Getz a shot and I don't think he is a leadoff type hitter.

Kenny is also working on a deal for Cuban prodigy Dayan Viciedo who at 19 and 6 '3 " 230 lbs might be MLB ready.

The 5th starter is up in the air and Kenny might trade a starter like he did with Garland or a position player like Konerko or Swisher. 2nd base might be open but it appears they are giving Getz a shot and I don't think he is a leadoff type hitter.

OK for fun I will project 09 opening day lineup before any trades or FA signiings

Missile SS .290 ba
Getz 2b .250 ba
Quentin LF .280 ba 38 hr's
Dye RF .275 ba 34 hr's
Thome Dh .280 ba 29 hr's
AJ C .279 ba
Konerko 1st .250 ba 20 -30 hr's
Fields 3d . 260 ba 24 hr's
Brian Anderson CF .250 ba

I would love for the Sox to move a slugger or two , Of and or pitching depth to upgrade leadoff hitter, team speed and top of the rotation starter but with only approximately 20 mil to spend there just might not be enough cash unless Reinsdorf opens the wallet for an impact player. Also most of the Sox sluggers have no trade clauses so that might hinder the movement of Dye, Konerko, or Thome let alone reasonable expectations for trade value of those players considering age.
Last year it was supposed to be Owen's leading off then Quentin blew up and they had to give Swish a spot so it was center and Owens never came around. OC made do leading off but no real leadoff hitter 2 spot table setter combo all year.

Let's hope Williams pulls some Hot Stove magic again.

edit to delete Swish from 1b mix and his 5 mil salary. Not sure if the pitcher Jeff Marquez obtained for Swish will be in the mix but it does free up 4 or 5 mil I think.

Dayan Viciedo signs with White Sox. I think this is the reason for Swisher being traded. The money freed up allowed Williams to roll the dice on the young Cuban.

Now is a front of the rotation starting pitcher too much to hope for?

Go Go Kenny.

They let Swisher go because he sucked.......period.

The Viciedo singing is a very good gamble.

Yes he did which is why it was a good trade for a backup infelder to replace Uribe, SP and RP depth and save money to boot to sign a nice FA prospect.

Of course Swisher might bounce back but with the log jam at 1st base, DH and the corner OF positions until the aging sluggers talents diminish it was a no brainer.

I can't believe the RedSox/Yankees didn't out-bid the Sox for the Cuban phenom, guy dominated the Cuban World Series as a 16 year old for crying out loud. Big MLB contract for an un-proven cat, but the guy looks like a monster.

Kenny being Kenny.
He has hit nicely and for relatively bargain entry level prices on Jenks, Quentin and Ramirez off of the top of my head. Not so much with Swisher and he paid a price to get Floyd and Danks.

Please get one more front line starter or a bona fide lead off hitter and I will be more than happy. Of course both would be nice but I am a realist.

White Sox might be moving Javy to Atlanta

The Braves are close to acquiring Javier Vazquez in a deal with the White Sox that also includes Brent Lillibridge.

FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal says Jo-Jo Reyes won't be in the deal. Perhaps Charlie Morton or Kris Medlen will be. We can't imagine the deal getting done without the White Sox getting some pitching in return. Relievers Manny Acosta and Blaine Boyer would also make sense as possibilities. Lillibridge, if traded, could compete with Chris Getz and Jayson Nix for the starting job at second base for the White Sox.

Javy is a perfect #4 or #5 starter, but he has no place on any staff in a playoff situation. Good luck in ATL JV!

Dye for Homer Bailey?
