I have found the easiest way to shut up Boston fans is "it won't take us 86 years to win one." Told that to some fat broad last night who was running her hamhock-esque mouth, and she replied with "well you got me there".
Nah, that's a meaningless quip. All that matters is the here and now and we are still the defending champs until we get knocked off.
With two championships in the last 4 years, 86 years is an afterthought at this point, it really is.
It was in response to "you guys have never won anything". The Rays are in year 11 and going toe to toe.

It's just so odd to see such an arrogant fanbase after 86 years of sucking.
Gump - did you design that shirt? Looks like it'll be a big seller.

Well...it was Maddon's idea of course. But myself and another guy came up with the Mission October part and the rest. It has been selling pretty well so far, especially with the publicity...but we really did it to get Maddon's mantra into the public eye.
Been working on it for 3 months! That's how long it takes to get thru licensing, legal, etc.
Working on some other cool anti-Sox and anti-Yankees stuff for a potential Division champ...hope we get to use it! :fingerscrossed:

Makes sense...Shields would have been going on 3 days as well anyway.
This is a huge weekend...we have to get some breathing room with our last home stand...the division is crucial!
Will Maddon need to juggle the staff towards the end of the season to get everything set for the Shield-Kaz-Garza start in the playoffs?

I remember the other issue - they wanted to break up Garza and Jackson so they didn't pitch back to back. They are a lot alike in that they're both fastball/slider types so this helps.
I'll be at the Trop on Saturday to cheer the team on

I like and respect what the Rays have done this year. Love to see parity in baseball. But don't be so sure it won't take 86 years. Sounds like you're already counting chickens. Championships can be pretty elusive in this game. See Red Sox, Cubs, etc.

True. Playoffs do not represent the best teams normally...especially with the addition of the division round.
But the Marlins have done it twice...so it odds are it happens < 86 years.

Honestly, me neither. I was admittedly fishing for info there.
You are right, he does seem to have the stuff and intimidation factor to be a closer seeing as he's a pretty big dude at 6-9, 260. Plus, he's averaged about 5 innings per start in the minors, so you have to wonder if he has the endurance to be a starter, so why not give him a shot? Worked for Bobby Jenks.

For the record, the magic number for the East is actually 6, not 7. The best Boston can do is 98 wins, which the Rays are 6 away from. Tie goes to the Amazin' Rays.

Congrats to all the Rays fans who persevered from day 1. It does my heart good to see this organization turn the corner after years and years of Namoli running this team to the ground. I watched the game. I'm no expert...but he looked pretty mature for a rook making his first start. He was consistently ahead of hitters all night.
The O's hit some shots off of him...mostly ending up as line drives to the outfielders.
He didn't look over-powering though. It almost seemed to me as if he was a little tentative, worried more about throwing strikes than letting loose.
Finally got his breaking stuff going in the mid-innings...made some big league hitters look foolish.

Silly to not start the first game at 3 or 4.
Price looked good, but the Os pretty much ran a AAA lineup out there. Still, his slider is silly.
He's definitely on the post-season roster, probably in Percival's place. They'll come up with some excuse for him.
