Damn right. Had the umpire not not gone blind for three seconds in the 4th (he should have struck out the first guy who walked) Santana wouldn't have allowed those two runs.
So nice to start off the season right and put last year behind us. They looked great last night.

Evidently that's what SNY is reporting. Shocker. Oh well. Bring on Claudio Vargas.

from the espn fantasy site
Martinez told SNY's Kevin Burkhardt that he heard something "pop" in his left hamstring and he was headed back to NY for an MRI.
Spin: It's too early to speculate hold long Martinez will be out but this is obviously very bad news. The Mets may elect to push Mike Pelfrey back from his Saturday start to pitch the home opener next Tuesday, which could give Orlando Hernandez time to be ready to start

When Hughes pulled his hammy last year he also heard a pop. It turned out it wasnt a major hamstring pull and he wouldve only been out 4-6 weeks but then he sprained his ankle making him miss 2 more months. FYI

Lineup is definitely weaker without Alou batting 6th but calling it "awful" is stretching it just a bit.

Their lineup is far from awful but the bottom half doesn't look like it belongs with an $130+ million team payroll.

Alou may as well be dead. Until he's in the lineup he doesn't matter. I see two legimate threats in that lineup with Reyes and Church being a half a threat each. The rest is garbage.
I'm as big of a Mets fan as you'll find but the overall lineup is bad. Without Alou, it's awful - for a team with October aspirations.

So true. Yes, mets fans are too reactive - other than a couple blips of great success in '69 and '86, its been a tough road for much of the time and we expect that other shoe to drop at any time... unfortunately that results in some idiots overeacting and the result is putting MORE pressure on the team.
That said, New York rewards its hero's - whether it be through success or the way a player approaches the game (and ideally both) better than any city I know of.

Looking good, still very early.
Only issue is now hearing the fans on the radio claiming the WS is in sight, only to have 3 game losing streak upon us, and here those same fans on the radio calling for Randolph to be fired, Reyes to be traded, and Santana is a bust.
Are NY fans the only fans who are this irrational from week to week or is this a national thing?

Just got back from seeing the Mets @ Phillies on Saturday night - my first trip to Citzens Bank Park.
Beautiful stadium
Classless fans.
Witnessed tons of fights - they even held the game up for a fight when Wagner entered the game in the 9th.
Drunken idiots screaming all kinds of profanities with women and children all over the place.
When Utley ran into Reyes and Reyes stayed down they cheered. When he got up they booed.
Stay classy Philly fans - the bad rap you have as a sports city is well deserved.

He was thinking ahead. If we have 1st and 2nd with no outs in the ninth we need the best bunter on the team there. Worked like a charm, eh?
Honestly, I don't know why he did that....maybe to have any type of punch towards the end of the order?

I really want to go there for a game.....I don't want to deal with that sort of crap. I couldn't believe the whole Reyes incident....amazing. I have too much respect for Rollins and Utley and Howard to cheer them if they get hurt. Hell, I have too much respect for any player to cheer them getting hurt.
Were you a target of the verbal abuse from the Philly fans?
