What is it with the Brewers and catchers? They haven't had an above replacement level receiver since B.J. Surhoff, maybe Matheny if you overlook offense. Lately, they've been renting retreads in Miller, Perez, Estrada and now Kendall. Batting Kendall ninth is a gimmick that does nothing to help hide the hole in the order he causes.

LB - there's some talk about it in the April 2 Gameday thread. Statistically speaking, Yost is saying the Brewers will score about 30 more runs this year with this method. I'm not 100% sure but I think this is only when Kendall is playing. If Rivera starts, I think he hits 8.

You're not getting 1998-2000 version of Kendall. He only has two seasons with positive OPS+ this century. The power and speed he had when he was an All-Star are long gone.

If he can't keep his OPS over .700 this year, he's a drain whether he bats 8th or 9th.

What does his SLG have to do with anything? The number they're concerned with is his OBP, not OPS.

The Milwaukee Brewers today designated relief pitcher Derrick Turnbow for assignment.

In a corresponding move, Joe Dillon was recalled from Class AAA Nashville.

Dillon will be in uniform tonight when the Brewers play the Houston Astros.

Turnbow was an all-star closer for the Brewers in 2006 and pitched well for the most part last season in a set-up role, but has become increasingly unreliable this year. His low point came Wednesday night when Yost sent him to pitch the eighth inning with the Cubs leading, 13-5.

Turnbow was unable to get out of the inning, surrendering six runs on four hits and four walks, forcing Yost to use left-hander Mitch Stetter to get the third out in the 19-5 loss. That meltdown came on the heels of an outing Sunday against Florida in which Turnbow failed to retire any of the three hitters he faced (two walks, single).

The numbers tell the story of how awful Turnbow has been. In eight outings, he is 0-1 with a 15.63 earned run average, allowing 12 hits, 13 walks and 11 runs in 6 1/3 innings. Opponents are batting .414 against him.

Good move here, but probably too little too late. If he denies the assignment they are free of his salary. Otherwise he can work on his game and hopefully raise his trade value.

Wayyyy too many times they are running themselves out of innings this year. Stupid stupid stupid.


When listening to the Cubs game yesterday in Chicago on the radio- the Cub broadcasters mentioned that Weeks ran thru a stop sign at 3rd base

I heard this last night, but it seems as though it was speculation and no one said for sure if he really did.

It was stupid all the way around. You just got 2 runs to go ahead by 1 in the 9th. if they stop Weeks at 2nd, you now have runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out and Fielder at the plate with Hart on deck.

I hope he takes the assignment and goes down and gets himself right. He's got good stuff, he just needs to learn another pitch like a slider and get his head straight.

The Brewer blogs made it sound pretty bad. A lot of "blown ACL" claims and such.

An examination in Milwaukee this morning revealed Gallardo suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in that collision with Chicago's Reed Johnson near first base in the fifth inning. He was placed on the 15-day DL and right-hande Dave Bush was recalled from Class AAA Nashville to replace him.

Guys who keep close tabs on the Brewers - what is the deal with Weeks. I know he has strikeout issues but any chance he starts hitting with a better average than .200. Great other numbers but that average is killing me.

Yeah, he should climb up to about .240. This is Rickie Weeks. He fills the stat sheet, but does not hit for a high average. Nothing new here.

Damn, thats a tough break for the Crew. They really needed him to fill the #1 spot if/when Sheets tears his labia.
