Well, that's three minutes of my life I'll never get back.
So it's time for opening day overreaction.
If Gagne can't hold the job, who gets the call? The Brewers have four guys (Riske, Mota, Torres & Turnbow) who have closed before with some level of success.
What is it with the Brewers and catchers? They haven't had an above replacement level receiver since B.J. Surhoff, maybe Matheny if you overlook offense. Lately, they've been renting retreads in Miller, Perez, Estrada and now Kendall. Batting Kendall ninth is a gimmick that does nothing to help hide the hole in the order he causes.
I'm betting on Riske, he can pitch, and he has the attitude. I added him to my fantasy team awhile ago on a hunch, and yesterday he did what Gagne coun't. Yes Gagne got $10 Million and they won't give up on him too easily, but Yost needs to win this year, or he may be out, and Gagne will have a short leash in my opinion.
As fo the back-up catcher, I really like Mike Rivera, the guy can flat out hit, and has a nice arm. if Kendall can't stay healthy (Which wouldn't surprise me) Rivera will get a chance and may not look back.
