Cleveland Indians trade pitcher Paul Byrd to Boston Red Sox
Posted by Paul Hoynes August 12, 2008 15:49PM

Indians veteran right hander Paul Byrd today was traded to Boston for a player to be named or cash.

The player to be named must be agreed upon by Jan. 15.

Byrd was 4-0 in his past five starts for the Indians after a terrible start. He made 22 starts for the Indians this year, going 7-10 with a 4.53 ERA.

The Indians announced they will not make a roster move today to replace Byrd on their active 25-man roster. The club's 40-man roster now stands at 39.

The Indians are undecided about who will start Thursday against the Orioles.

Not a bad move for the Sox.

Byrd's first 8 starts: 3.61 ERA
Middle 9 starts: 7.40 ERA
Last 5 starts: 1.80 ERA

Lets not get carried away. Byrd is an adequate 3rd starter and a good 4th starter (where he will be slotted with the Sox).
