Always liked MadDog.

At first glance this seems like a bad deal for the Padres. I'd rather have Maddux on my bench as a second pitching coach for all the young pitchers I'll be calling up in September when rosters expand than two scrubs that will never make it out of A-ball.

Didn't the Dodgers already have one of the best Team ERA's in the NL to begin with?

Yes, but Brad Penny is back on the DL and they don't want to move Park out of the bullpen again. Maddux would be their 5th starter. I like this move - I think it would be great for a kid like Kershaw, and Billingsley would get a lot out of it too, even though he's been pitching very well.

Yeah, but how much of this is one of those things where he's such a respected veteran, they wanted to trade him to a pennant race.

Yeah, they probably should just fold up their tent and let one of the New York teams win it all. rolleyes1.gif

doesn't say much, but from Depodesta's blog

We were under no pressure to move his salary, so we were perfectly happy to keep Greg here in San Diego unless there was a baseball deal that made sense for the Padres. We feel that is the case with this deal.
