I had a very strange draft tonight. 10 team startup dynasty league. $200 auction draft to draft starters and bench.

We have to start: QB, RB, RB, RB/WR, WR, WR, WR/TE, TE, K, LB, LB, LB, DB, DB, DB, DL, DL, DL. We get 22 bench players for a total of a 40 player roster. We keep the entire roster each year (thought it was just starters, but after checking the website saw/remembered it is the entire 40 player roster)!

Scoring system:

Offense:

10 yds rush/receive: 1
25 yds pass: 1
Pass/Rush/Receive TD: 6
ppr: .5
pass/rush/receive 2pt conversion: 2
fumble loss/int: -2

Defense:

Tackle: 1.5
Assist: .5
Sack/INT/FF/FR/Safety: 6
DTD: 10
Pass Def: 3

So, here's the thing: Only 5/10 of the owners showed up for the draft and those that didn't, didn't pre-do their roster values. To give you an example of what happened, based on VBD I had LT ranked for $36 and he went for $54 because the espn auction draft website values don't change based on the # of players to be drafted apparently. Many of the stud players went for 50-100% more than I had them valued as. So, me and a couple other sharks hung back and waited until value appeared.

I figure it's not hard to draft a good team in this situation. However, I would still appreciate your thoughts on how I did. What I would appreciate even more, however, is your thoughts on players I might package together for a top 10 RB to a team that is in rough shape after drafting a few stud players for most of their budget and not much else. I figure a top 10 RB and maybe another top 10-20 RB would be enough to push me over the top (and I'm sure a couple of the other sharks feel the same way, haha!).

Also, do you think I should start 4 WRs instead of 3 RBs, especially after Marshall comes back and/or if I don't trade for a top 10 RB?

Ok, so here are my projected starters for week 1 and what I paid for them:

QB: Brees ($21)
RB: J Jones ($8)
RB: K Smith ($7)
RB: S Young ($6)
WR: Colston ($17)
WR: Welker ($13)
WR: Jennings ($5)
TE: Witten ($15)
K: Crosby ($1)
LB: Witherspoon ($4)
LB: Vilma ($5)
LB: Barnett ($5)
DL: Cole ($8)
DL: Suggs ($1)
DL: Kampman ($8)
DB: Harris ($1)
DB: Harper ($1)
DB: Bigby ($1)

Here is my bench:

QB: Rodgers ($2)
RB: D Williams ($9)
RB: L White ($3)
RB: Fargas ($1)
RB: Rice ($6)
RB: Hall ($3)
RB: Hightower ($1)
RB: Slaton ($1)
RB: Perry ($7 --> I could have had him for $1 but spent my last $7 on him that I was saving because I thought the Rudi/Watson owner would fight me for him, but he took Ben Obamanu instead for $1!!!)
WR: Boldin ($10)
WR: Marshall ($4)
LB: Bulluck ($4)
LB: J Harrison ($4)
LB: Briggs ($3)
LB: J Peterson ($3)
LB: EJ Henderson ($2)
LB: Brackett ($2)
DL: G Adams ($1)
DL: A Carter ($2)
DL: Peppers ($1)
DB: Cromartie ($2)
DB: M Lewis ($2)

Thanks a lot for any advice! This is my first year doing IDP and this was my first fantasy auction draft, so any advice appreciated!

p.s., Top 10 RBs:

LT: $54
Westbrook: $54
Addai: $52
ADP: $48
SJax: $47
Gore: $42
Portis: $40
Lynch: $36
Barber: $32
LJ (also FWP and MJD): $31

Here's my most likely trading partner's team as he has 3 of the top 10 RBs (the comp drafted for him):

QB: Campbell/Boller
RB: ADP/SJAX/Addai/Brown/Alexander
WR: Berrian/Reg Williams/Curtis/Drew Bennett
TE: K Brady/Manumaleuna
K: Rackers/Bryant/Reed (!!!)
LB: Sims/Greenway/T Howard (that's it, no bye week replacement)
DB: Tillman/Hamlin/McGee (that's it, no bye week replacement)
DL: K Coleman/T Warren/D White (that's it, no bye week replacement)

I figure I could offer some combination of WR, LB, DB, DL for a top RB. What do you think?

I know this is a lot, so thanks!! thumbup1.gif

I think you're probably going to be frustrated all season long trying to decide among all of those top tier players. Your backs are weak for a ten team league, so I like the plan to package some of that depth for better players there.

It's only .5 PPR, so the 4WR lineup isn't necessarily a slam dunk. But your WRs look like they may be better options than your 3rd back, today anyway.

Great, thanks Jene thumbup1.gif If you have any thoughts on what I might be able to package for a top 10 RB I would love to hear them popcorn.gif

I traded Carter, Brackett, M Lewis, and Cromartie for R Bush. Good deal? Bad deal?

I'm nervous about having Brees, Colston, and Bush (I'm not a NO homer by any stretch, LOL!!!) so I'm hoping to package up Bush and try to upgrade again.

Great trade, especially with your need at RB. thumbup1.gif
