Just trying to get my starting lineups all sorted out. I understand that Witherspoon was/is injured. Anyone have an update, or info on this? I can go with Ray Lewis instead, so all is not lost.... TIA

safer to just go with Ray this week, I have not seen anything ruling him out but Ray is starting for sure so why risk a big Goose age with Witherspoon

A goose 's age can vary widely, but a goose egg is almost always 0

I have not heard anything one way or the other on Witherspoon and I doubt we will know much until midweek, so just hold tight until then. You have a solid option to start if he doesn't play, so it's not a big deal for you.

You should be going with Ray anyway. smile.gif

What is the scoring system?

edit: seems like your scoring system is more weighted toward tackles than leagues I play in. I'm guessing that is the difference.

You can check the scoring through the sites, but Ray out-tackled Witherspoon while Witherspoon had more sacks. Ray also had more pass defenses, int's and a TD which pushed his average.

But I agree, you take one and I'll take the other... if healthy. smile.gif

Yeah, they're both talented. In my scoring system and the fact that I play in dynasty leagues (Ray's age and ongoing injury situation), I have Witherspoon ranked higher than Ray (Witherspoon's injury has me worried though). If it's redraft and both are healthy I think it really depends on the scoring system.

I found this on one of the Rams forums. Sounds promising...

Injury situation is better than usual

ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
09/02/2008

When the Rams hit the practice fields Monday afternoon to kick off the first game week of the regular season, only one member of the 53-man roster was unable to suit up.

Rookie wide receiver Donnie Avery, who sprained his right knee Thursday night in the preseason finale at Kansas City, was limited to light work and running Monday. So was Darius Vinnett (knee), a cornerback on the practice squad.

Otherwise, everyone was fully padded and participating, at least to some degree.
That included safety Oshiomogho Atogwe (hamstring) and tackle Orlando Pace (shoulder), who took part in all drills. Cornerback Fakhir Brown (shoulder), running back Brian Leonard (shoulder), center Brett Romberg (hand) and wide receivers Drew Bennett (groin) and Dante Hall (ankle) were limited, but all got in some 11-on-11 work.

Overall, the team hasn't been so healthy in some time. "I feel real good about it," coach Scott Linehan said. "The core of our team has had a lot of work this preseason."

After the players had the weekend off, Linehan conducted a two-hour practice in 90-plus-degree heat Monday. "I sound like a masochist, but I was really glad it was hot, because we need to get work in this kind of weather," he said. "It could be like this Sunday (in Philadelphia), and it could be like this three weeks from now. ...

"Hopefully it'll be a benefit to have worked out here in this."

I'm surprised they didn't mention Witherspoon by name here, but hopefully no news is good news considering they said "Otherwise, everyone was fully padded and participating, at least to some degree"

p.s., the same site just listed the Rams injury report from CBSSportsline and Witherspoon wasn't listed on it shrug2.gif

Will Witherspoon-LB- Rams Sep. 3 - 5:12 pm et

Rams MLB Will Witherspoon is not on this week's injury report.
There was a report late last month that 'Spoon had a potentially serious groin injury, but he's practicing fully. He has top-10 LB upside as an IDP.

Any reason Dodd's left him off the week 1 Prelim sheets?

Norton does the IDP sheets. Probably was working under the assumption that Witherspoon was unlikely to practice when he turned in the numbers on Tuesday. Witherspoon should show up in one of the next updates.

Spoon is still zeroed out after the latest IDP update. confused1.gif

My only other option is Mayo...a bit too much risk/reward for week 1...

In looking through rankings this week there aren't any points out by Will Witherspoon's name. I know he hurt his groin, but he isn't on any injury report that I saw. What can we expect from him this week (surely not a big 0)?

Guys, I was/am going on the report that came out last week saying that Witherspoon's injury is worse than the club had originally let on. At that point he sounded pretty shaky so I dropped him out of the projections on the premise that he may not play at all. There has been nothing said about him one way or another since that report and there was no official injury report available when last I updated the projections yesterday afternoon. I pay very little attention to this new fangled "Practice report" the NFL is force feeding us. It means almost nothing.

Obviously if he is healthy Witherspoon is an every week must start. You shouldn't need me to tell you that. If the "real" injury report says he's playing I will certainly project him with some decent numbers. That said, until I know for sure what is the deal with him, I'm not going to project his normal production levels. It's week 1, no one can afford to take a zero. If you have another solid/healthy option (IE Ray Lewis) it's a no brainer to start him IMO. Unless of course there is some definitive news on Witherspoon that says he's good to go.

Even if Witherspoon does play, groin injuries are easy to tweak and tend to be long lasting. One false step could put him on the bench for the rest of the game and this could be a problem for him all year.

Hopefully all is well with him and he puts up his usual 8-2 or better. I can tell you that at this point, he's not in my lineup in either of the 2 leagues where I have him.

Good luck this weekend,
bucsbaby
Witherspoon is not even listed on the NFL injury report. Philly is without their top 2 WRs, so it's going to be the Brian Westbrook show. I'm thinking Witherspoon is a great start this week thumbup1.gif

How much did he play?
Uncle Humuna
Anyone see the game?
What's the scoop on the weak showing?
Did he look hobbled?
Did schemes change?
Was he a 3-downer?
How much (if at all) did he play at DE?

Can understand an off game, but a single solo?!?
Jack Johnson
I watched pretty much the whole game and he looked slow in pursuit to the ball and could not shed a block to save his life. He was not the only Ram to play like #### though, the whole team did. He also looked to favor his groin at times too. I liked what I saw from Stewart Bradley and picked him up immediately. He put up a nice stat line with the Rams hardly running any plays.
The Man With No Name
Until I see some decent stats, he is staying on the bench in the 2 leagues I have him, just like week 1.

Well, with Ryans not playing this week, I am gonna start Witherspoon. If he can do half of what Fletcher did I'll be pleased. Giants could run the ball 50 times this week.

Witherspoon played every snap. I did not see the game, but if he was slow in pursuit as was said above, one would have to think he was not healthy.
The Man With No Name
Good game today. Is he back? Did anyone see the Rams game and notice if Witherspoon looked healthy?
bucsbaby
Looked pretty healthy making that sack...I breathed a sigh of relief and feel comfortable getting him back into my starting rotation.
