I just picked up an existing team in a 10 team Dynasty League that uses 2 IDP each week. I have never played IDP before.
Scoring as follows:
6 pt. per touchdown.
1 pt. per every 25 INT, fumble or blocked kick return yds.
1 pt. per forced fumble
1 pt. per 2 solo tackles made (rounded down)
1 pt. per 3 assisted tackles (rounded down)
2 pt. per fumble recovered
2 pt. per INT caught
2 pt. per sack made
1 pt. per blocked kick or punt
1 pt. per pass defensed
2 pt. per safety recorded
1 pt per every 25 punt return yds.
1 pt per every 25 kickoff return yds.
We have 2 IDP starters, one for DT/LB and one for CB/S position. For the CB/S position I have
Michael Huff, Oak and Roy Williams, Dal. They were 61st and 65th in scoring last year at this position. So looking to drop them for some fresh blood. I might carry 3 at this position. I don't have to drop anyone, but Williams has off the field issues.
I can blind bid for these players on the waiver wire:
Antonio Cromartie SD- someone dropped him this pre-season, I don't know why? Points mostly from INT's, not tackles?
Kerry Rhodes, NYJ - Ranked #3 according to Draft Dominator (no return yds included)
Richard Marshall, CAR - 70 tackles last year, pretty good for a DB, right?
Nate Clements, SF - #7 in league last year and DD #9 ranked this year.
Seems like the someone who could be a return man and catch a few INT's would do good, that is why I looking at Cromartie.
Any suggestions would be helpful. I will be in the forum more ofter after I get the hang of this.

yeah, while I'm in the middle of replying to it........
first of all, you play in an incredibly shallow league.
cromartie might have been dropped because he's fairly inconsistent -- most of his points coming from 'big plays', and as you play in a shallow league there are plenty of guys to go around, and the only ones worth anything are the very top elite guys.
if I were you, I'd scrutinize match ups every week, and really try to get the most out of whoever I wheel through that position.
rhodes is probably free safety this year, and no lock to reproduce his past production of a couple years ago, also probably sees less tackles and produces more big play #'s, a la cromartie.
marshall is good, but you face the problem of him getting opportunities as he's stuck behind others on that team.
think I'd have to take clements over williams, and you could always roll dice on cromartie and spot start him in favorable match ups.
edit:
as shallow as your league is, there are probably lots of good players out there.

All these guys are legitimate options in your system. The funky tackle rules bring Cromartie back into the discussion, though you'll have to put up with pretty poor games to get the good ones. Since you're starting only two players and you've got the other solid options, I'd let someone else deal with the volatility. I'm not aware of how often he'll be returning kicks. If he's the primary returner, I might take him over Clements below.
Kerry Rhodes and Nate Clements are the perfect players for your system. Tacklers with a very good number of peripheral coverage stats. They'd be my picks, though Marshall is very close to both. Until he sticks as a starter, he's just too risky for me, despite his two year history of being the most productive nickel corner in recent memory.

The IDP players are scoring about 50% of the offensive players, so it doesn't appear that they care too much about them. 6 Pts for ALL TD's so the top QB's were scoring in 190- 350 pts last year, compared to the top IDP which are scoring 60-100 pts. I would think the IDP are much less valuable. My thinking was based on hoping for that big game here and there from a returner instead of getting 4-5 pts a game from a "solid" but not fantastic player.
Appreciate the replies, any other opinions?

yeah, it's not really about the absolute point values that determine value, as much as it is scarcity.
the idp pool is essentially untapped in your league, so you can pretty much pick up anybody and he'll be as good as any other (good) guy available ---- it's not like you're fighting it out for players.
so, to me, the only value comes in getting some elite guy, like willis (or harris), or guessing right and spot playing a guy who has a big week.
if you're interested in returners, ther's actually a whole thread over in idp about that.
right now, it seems like about the only guy in your kind of league would be mcgee, and that's assuming he sticks on returns --- but he's probably gone.
one more thing is the blind bidding --- I don't do it, but if there's an issue about burning bid money you might as well stand pat, as switching to one of the aforementioned guys is pretty marginal.
wait....if it's dynasty I'd probably want marshall.

I would go with Marshall even though he does not currently start. He has put up huge tackle numbers as a 3rd DB, and if he ever starts, his upside is ridiculous.

Thanks again guys. I will check out the returner post and see what happens. I have to wait until after week 1 to pick up any new players so I still have a while to decide.
