I read somewhere that he will be coming out on passing downs but that was before they cut Tony Taylor. Anyone heard if he will be a 3 down linebacker.
Thanks.

I expect Brooking and Boley to play in the nickel package this year.

Agreed. Tony Taylor was never really a threat to Lofton. The Falcons may or may not see Lofton as a long-term option in the nickel, but right now every indication (local speculation, Brooking wearing the helmet comm, etc) is that Lofton will not play in the nickel packages to start the season.

Any news from this?
Michael Boley-LB- Falcons Aug. 5 - 6:24 pm et
Falcons LB Michael Boley is expected to plead not guilty on a misdemeanor battery charge.
He was arrested after a physical confrontation with his wife back in May. He was participating in Falcons practice on Tuesday, and any punishment from the league will wait until a verdict in the case is reached.

I'm very excited about his prospects in the next couple of years. Once Brooking gets too old and Lofton gets more up to speed, I could easily see him in a 3-down MLB role. He's done as well as could be expected to this point.

Once the Falcons get past the sentimental view of Brooking as a 3 down guy and move the communicator into Lofton or Boley's helmet.....the sky is the limit....

6 tackles so far in the first half, and it's not over yet. This may be a breakout game for him.
It was a product of bye week problems primarily, but I'm glad I started him.

Did anyone see Lofton play today, did he stay in on 3rd downs? Nice numbers today, could this be a start to a beautiful thing? He's starting to remind of me Beason last year...

From what I saw, there weren't many multi-WR sets. DJ Hackett had only two targets. I don't think anything has changed in the Falcon scheme yet, though your Beason comparison may yet prove apt.

With Henderson down this week, I'm considering starting Lofton who's @ GB this week. How strongly do people feel that Lofton's arrived? Is he a definite start now if you start 4 or even 3 LB's?

Major risk starting Lofton against a team that uses so many spread and multiple WR sets.

Yeah, that's along the lines of my thoughts too. I went with Gaither over Lofton (and Crowder).

If Rodgers were healthy, I'd completely agree. However, with the injury either he'll be limited or a rookie QB will get his first start. Meanwhile, Grant is healthy, thus I'm thinking Green Bay will run more and have less multiple WR sets.
Or am I overthinking this, and the Packers will keep the same scheme?

This cat is starting to warm up. Watched him vs the Saints last week and he looked good, getting across the field well to bring guys down. Situation permitting, he should be a stud next year.

With a passing team coming in this week will Lofton be a bad start this week?
